GTA 5 PS3 vs GTA 4 PC accurate graphics comparison

"I have to say it's pretty clear to the naked eye which game is superior visually. GTA 5 is slated to release next year for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and is shaping up to be a fantastic game."

Try the ultimate mode. Ice Enhancer.
when it comes to character models gta 5 wins. Everything else gta 4 mod wins.
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

and that's above 1080p on a april 2010 released gtx 480 card.

This just make me recognize how far consoles and even the wiiU is behind.

Also if wiiU is not getting gta5 then that is a fail.

Now I hope there will be a gta5 ice enhancer mod!

ProjectVulcan4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

The GTA4 port to PC was poor and not only ran badly, didn't remotely exploit the hardware available properly apart from massively improved draw distances and sharper textures. Essentially it was just a massaged console port. At least it runs a lot better after the patches now and is easily the best version. Especially when you turn on something like FXAA. The console versions had blatant aliasing and slowdown but the PC version can be buttery smooth.

The engine however is obviously powerful because of that kind of mods like the one you link to which frankly GTA5 can't hope to match on console.

I would hope that a PC version will come along 6 months after the consoles (as the heavy rumours suggest) and Rockstar don't cock this one up.

The game will again be console limited because it is designed for consoles. Does look as though Rockstar have added some nice refinements in there though.

pandehz4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

I agree

Was so excited for it after San Andreas and wow just wow it was a horrid port.

Literally one of the worst ports

Rockstar cleared its name with Max Payne3. It was superbly optimised. Hopefully they can do the same.

I always get Rockstar game son pc even though I was burnt by gta4. Somehow im scared of gta v even though MP3 rocked

Hydrolex4172d ago

If those pics make you think OH PS3 is more superior than a PC, then keep fooling yourself..

It should have been a GTA IV PS3 vs GTA V PS3 comparison.

Consoles can not be compared to PC period.

Rockstar acted very sloppy on making the PC version of GTA IV, bad porting

Dee_914171d ago (Edited 4171d ago )

wasnt the ps3 version of gta iv a port ? and going off the comments here a bad port ..
but that pc version looks bad. I think the ps3 version looks better. They shouldve just compared it to the 360 for fairness since the 360 was lead platform for gtaiv and ps3 is lead platform for gta v
But I dont think they could get those pics to compare without mods so I guess thats their reasoning for comparing to PC.

HappyGaming4171d ago

How bloody brown was GTA IV O.o
Hopefully next gen will shift away from this limited colour pallette themes I love vibrant colours in games!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'll be SURE to play both my PS3 version on my HDTV right next to the PC version on my gaming rig so that I can tell the difference as I play it/s

miyamoto4170d ago

Is the PS3 the lead platform this time around?

I don't think anyone truly questions that PCs will always be better than consoles as far as potential. But, I think what these comparisons are attempting to do is show how far R* has come with making their games for current gen consoles.

I don't think even the next gen of consoles will be able to compete with IceEnhancer quality graphics. It's an extremely small percentage of PC owners, let alone gamers, who can run those level of graphics yet. Most people are updating their PCs to run WoW's latest expansion. Sad but true.

Edit: Looking at the screenshots a few times, I'm not really wow'ed by any of it. Looks like what I expected of any game to have by this time in the gen and I don't see anything that won't be done on the 360 either.

Dasteru4171d ago

The reason most people are still upgrading their PC's to play WoW is because they keep failing to realize that WoW is a CPU intensive game and they keep upgrading their GPU instead. Not only does it require a massively more powerful GPU to compensate for a weak CPU in a CPU intensive game but it also creates a hardware bottleneck where the CPU becomes unable to pass the information from the higher speed GPU to the mobo and they end up loosing any potential benefit of the better GPU anyway.

Almost any CPU made within the last 2-3 years along with a basic $50-60 GPU will play Mists of pandaria at 100+ fps.

vortis4171d ago

"It's an extremely small percentage of PC owners, let alone gamers, who can run those level of graphics yet."

Mid-ranged PCs can run these kind of graphics easy. The only problem was that GTA IV was HORRIBLY optimized for PC (and yeah, I don't even think an all caps "horribly" explains how badly optimized the game was).

Still, mid-ranged PCs can manage a moderate version of iCEnhancer that still blows the consoles clean out of the water. 4GB RAM and a good quad-core and anything above the 280 GTX will set most people straight for an iCEnhanced GTA IV.

Christopher4171d ago (Edited 4171d ago )

I agree most can run an okay version of IceEnhancer. But, what is being compared against consoles aren't "okay" versions of IceEnhancer but maxed out versions with the highest of quality textures. Those people that can run that are a very small percentage of gamers (read: PC and console gamers, not just PC gamers), let alone PC owners as a whole.

Furthermore, the majority of PC owners are laptop owners who don't have GPUs in them that can run GTAIV at full, let alone IceEnhancer at moderate. But, most of those laptops can run WoW at medium or lower.

***Almost any CPU made within the last 2-3 years along with a basic $50-60 GPU will play Mists of pandaria at 100+ fps.***

That's great, but I best most WoW players have PC that average older than 4 years. That's their target audience. Has been from day 1 and is one of their key reasons for popularity. You can play the game on PC from a decade ago even.

---

I think a lot of people on this Web site tend to think their set up to be the norm or only slightly above average. It's not. My 2-year old gaming rig is above and beyond the majority of PCs out there that many people use to play games, let alone the average PC owner. $750 "gaming" PCs from companies like HP and Dell, which are typically the most purchased by non-hardcore gamers (not casual, they just don't game as much as you or I tend to game or play only a few games a year) fall below my specs from 2 years ago. This is the majority of the gaming audience. These are the people who buy all the sequels we complain about. These are the people who don't go to gaming sites for news. These people are greater in number than those who visit N4G or other gaming sites.

BitbyDeath4171d ago

Rockstar will probably wait to see how other games like Assassins Creed sell first before porting to the Wii U.

SnotyTheRocket4171d ago

You people DO know that these GTA5 shots are Bullshots, or the PC version. While the game will look good, it wont look like that on the console version.

BRING THE DISLIKES

RumbleFish4171d ago

100% agree! It's the same story again. We only saw PC screenshots before GTA IV was released. But people believe what they want to believe.

vortis4171d ago

It amazes me how ignorant people are of the PR game.

Do you all really think the PS3/Xbox 360 will have AA 8x and unlimited draw distances like in those screenshots?

Really people? REALLY?!

irepbtown4171d ago

You DO know that the PS3 is the lead platform?
And that there's no info about the PC version of the game which means these shots are quite obviously from the PS3 version of the game.

Though I have to say they do look polished. I'm not at all expecting those graphics for consoles HOWEVER I won't be surprised if R* get the graphics to look close to (or even match) those shots there.

Pushagree4171d ago

GTA on a nintendo console is like airing Breaking Bad on PBS.

From the comments

"grumple • 17 minutes ago
yeah, but game console graphics will always be better than PC graphics because if they weren't, you'd need a hench graphics card.
also, you're dealing with highly tunes GTA 5 screens made by R* to impress, and comparing that to in-game images from GTA 4 which were made by a fan and hasn't been fine tuned. though, don't mistake me for saying the graphics will be the same, i know they'll be different"

LMAO

Azmatik4172d ago

Theyre lieing this isnt PS3 GTA5 unless they polished the pics cause theres no way PS3 can run games without jaggies simple as that and that goes for any console.

RivetCityGhoul4172d ago

PS3 is the lead platform, Rockstar said it themselves, the demo they have been showing the journalists is being ran on the PS3. don't underestimate what rockstar can do.

gameseveryday4172d ago

The demo was played on the PlayStation 3. Check out some previews by websites.

RivetCityGhoul4172d ago

theres no point of explaining fanboys disagree with facts apparently LOL

Hanif-8764172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

Well, i'm sure that they polished up the pics somewhat but Game Informer did confirm that it was the PS3 version that was demoed. Whereas, GTA IV was demoed on the Xbox360 which was the lead for that game. Hence, by all logic this means that the PS3 version is probably ahead in development and they are more comfortable in showing that version (which would indicate it being the lead). Nevertheless, it was the same with Assassins Creed 3 and we all know that turned out its 99.9% identical on both platforms.

Stop being so negative and btw this was run on a PS3.

I'll be seriously impressed if this runs as well as it looks on my Ps3.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but as stated before, I can clearly see that those GTA5 screens are absolutley not PS3. They are either photoshopped or PC version screens. Which therefore means a PC version best soon get announced :)

WeskerChildReborned4172d ago

Yea like Gameinformer would lie for pretty much no reason.

PersonMan4172d ago

I disagree. Why is it so hard to believe that those are PS3 screens? It's not the hardware that determines the look of a game. It's how well the developers can optimize the game to look as good as it can on the same hardware.

Max Payne 3 looked pretty damn good on console, and I expect GTA V will look even better than that on consoles.

These are the console screenshots. Rockstar doesn't usually show PC screenshots.

vortis4171d ago

Dude, hardware does determine how a game looks. Why do you think Battlefield 3 looks so different on PCs running DX11 compared to the console versions which were running DX9 equivalent APIs?

PersonMan4171d ago

Vortis: I still disagree. Yes, there are limitations on current consoles, but not all games look the same. What about art direction? A game doesn't need to look photorealistic to look good and from these screenshots, it does not look photorealistic. Battlefield 3 looks way different from a Rockstar game.

I guarantee you that when GTA V comes out, it will look like those screenshots on the PS3 and 360 versions.

I won't be wrong.

indubitably4171d ago

Rockstart is notorious for their bullshots, and these are some of them.

Shaman4171d ago

You are an idiot. Rockstar is (with Nintendo) ONLY one that doesn't release bullshots. Always direct feed. Hell, they even released some MP3 shots and said "SCREENSHOTS FROM PC VERSION".

OmniSlashPT4171d ago

Yeah sure, and KZ3 and UC3 are also running on PC right? The same goes with Beyond and TLOU?

Gotta love these pc desperation.

Oh and hundreds of millions of dollars in revanue to boot.

Lots of complaints about gta ever since the hd era started and yet it's bugger than its ever been with gta vi up to 180 million trailer views alone. The next game is shaping it be be another genre defining game

MetalGearsofWar32d ago

They already learned they dont have to actually make a great game

sagapo33d ago

The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.

Zhipp32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

I did accidentally beat someone to death a couple times. An unfortunate mistake but besides that I didn't have any problems with the controlls

jznrpg33d ago

Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games

Profchaos33d ago

I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
