Why Obama’s Re-Election Is Good For Gamers

Regardless of your personal politics, one thing is for sure, the re-election of Barrack Obama to a second term in office will prove to be great for gamers. With the economy on the up-swing, whoever made their merry way into the White House was bound to take credit for the bounties and economic boom that is at this point inevitable in the U.S. economy. Ok, enough uppity talk. Here’s why we’re in for a great next four years (from a gaming perspective).

Eh...I don't see the 720/PS4 coming out until late 2014 at the earliest, not because of Obama, but because they're selling fine. The fact that Sony just released a SuperSlim confirms that the PS3 will be the premier Sony console for the next two years.

green4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

That's like saying that the iPhone 5 should never have been released because the 4S was selling fine. In business, you don't sleep and relax because you have a good selling product. You have to keep up with the times and continue to innovate if you want to have brand purchasing power among consumers. If you don't, you will see your competitors release new products and surpass you and before you are able to react, it would be to late. If you don't believe me, just go ask Blackberry how they are doing.

The wii U is hitting store shelves any moment, Sony and Microsoft have to react by fall 2013 at the latest.

LOGICWINS4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

I cringe everytime people compare the iphone to consoles. Smartphone hardware parts update more frequently than console hardware parts. Therefore, the hardware parts in a PS3 for example would take LONGER to decline in value than the hardware in a smartphone. This is why it takes YEARS for consoles to drop in price and MONTHS for cellphones to drop in price. Therefore, its less costly to pump out a smartphone every year than it is to pump out a console every year...hence why Nokia can pump out half a dozen phones per year while MS/Sony can only afford to pump out ONE console every 5-6 years. Please educate yourself before commenting.

green4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

It is you that needs to educate your self about the business behind consumer electronic devices which both a console and a smartphone are. Just because the update cycle for both are different does not mean that the basic principe of how their businesses are run in order to gain a competitive advantage over their rivals is any different.

Xbox 720 will be out in Late 2013... I know people who are working on it at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. Believe me or not, I don't give a shaat !

BitbyDeath4179d ago

If the Wii U didn't release this year then that may have been the case but Sony and Microsoft need to keep up or lose their market.

LOGICWINS4179d ago

How does Sony/MS lose a market that was never theres to begin with?

Nintendo fans will buy a Wii U
Xbox fans will hold out for the 720
PS3 fans will hold out for the PS4

BitbyDeath4179d ago

There's a big market of people who don't go on websites or keep up with what's going on in the papers, they like games and they go with whatever is available and looking fun to play. (Like the COD crowd)

If COD were to feature on Wii U with better graphics next year who's to say that market will not cross over? Given the extra controller abilities and whatnot.

dirthurts4179d ago

Any real gamer will look beyond simple minded brand loyalty. If there's new hardware, with new games, it'll be purchased and enjoyed.
I personally, pc guy. But I have a WiiU preordered. I'll grab one of the SONY/MS consoles when they hit too if I can swing it. Which one is up to the product.

LOGICWINS4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

^^So in order to be a "real" gamer, a person MUST buy every console that comes out?

Your telling me that the hardcore PC gamers that didn't buy a Wii in 2006 by CHOICE aren't "real" gamers? Senseless comment.

"You really think Ps3 fans and xbox 360 fans will only buy PS4 and 720 respectively?"

Your putting words in my mouth. I never said Ps3 fans and xbox 360 fans will ONLY buy PS4 and 720 respectively. The Xbox fans that I mentioned can SIMULTANEOUSLY be PS3 fans and vice versa.

If my comment read:

"Nintendo fans will ONLY buy a Wii U
Xbox fans will hold out ONLY for the 720
PS3 fans will hold out ONLY for the PS4"

..then, and only then, would you have an argument.

Blankman854179d ago

Wow Logic, you've lost it. I mean come on bro. Life doesn't work like that. You really think Ps3 fans and xbox 360 fans will only buy PS4 and 720 respectively? By that logic(excuse the pun) xbox 360 should have only sold 25 million units and PS3 should have 150 million by now.
You made mdr agree with Bit by death, do you understand how painful that was for me?

BitbyDeath4179d ago

Lol, i feel for you Ndivhu :-p

AWBrawler4179d ago

@Logic

not true. I've seen lots of people switch from Gamecube to PS3, Xbox to Wii, PS2 to 360, and even give up on consoles all together and go with DSi and PSP.

Truth is if Wii U has a 2 year lead on the next gen, it will put up one hell of a fight sellswise against MS and Sony. 360 having one year was almost enough to keep it as number 1, but Wii sold unexpectedly well, and PS3 gained a lot of momentum after the gloom and doom articles died

Like in hell i would buy a wiiu

I just don't think the PS4 will release by 2014 mainly because Sony stated many times that there is a long way to go before we talk about the PS4 meaning the system wont be releasing anytime soon. But the nextbox on the other hand idk...

DeadlyFire4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

Xbox 720 - Late 2013
PS4 - Early 2014

Obama has nothing to do with this. Economy is not in a upswing.

A President that hates video games is good for the gamers?

greenpowerz4179d ago

You mean he wants parents to do their homework and parents to spend time with their kids? Obama has a Wii and xbox.

MultiConsoleGamer4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

No. In telling people to "put away the xbox" he's insulting gamers and reinforcing negative stereotypes about us.

It's like he thinks we're all lazy slobs that sit around all day playing video games.

Soldierone4179d ago

Michelle Obama is the biggest opponent of video games period....all her "eat healthy, go play" things. It's annoying seeing kids not able to get a soda to drink with their friggin lunches anymore....

What said is right. He thinks gamers are slobs, and if he could he would limit it to motion gaming.

AWBrawler4179d ago

i don't believe in giving kids soda anyway. Heck I barely drink sodas. nothing wrong with healthy eating, but that doesn't mean they can't play some video games and still be healthy. Why does everyone assume every gamer is some unhealthy overweight fat guy.

I'm 5ft. 11, 179 lbs, and the most exercise i do is play red steel 2 lol. stereotype debunked. I eat healthy and I'm a gamer. Yes, those kind of people exist.

Bimkoblerutso4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

I wouldn't say he "hates" video games, but at the very least gaming culture and the "digital" community in general should be concerned with his previous flirtations with SOPA.

X-Factor4179d ago

It's not a politics article nor a Red and Blue debate. read it before you speak your mind. It's about gaming folks.

ExPresident4179d ago

Its not about politics? If it wasn't about politics he wouldn't have plastered a big Obama picture at the top of it, nor used the lefts Forward banner with the Obama 'O' in it. Last but not least his final line "Obamacare and entitlements to the rescue!!!"

How is it not politically related. Its partially about gaming. He could have left politics out of it entirely but instead he wanted the opportunity to be a cheerleader. Whatever, to each his own, but you can't say its not about politics.

X-Factor4179d ago

The Obamacare and Entitlements sentence was meant to be satirical.. And to your point. Ok, so there is some political content, but I am neither cheering for, nor castigating Obama in this article. Let's just make that clear.

sdozzo4179d ago

Good for gaming... bad for the economy.

Thumbs down.

dirthurts4179d ago

Obama doesn't control our spending habits, nor the financial decisions of companies. We affect the economy, not the president.
Educate yourself sir.

Kaneda4179d ago (Edited 4179d ago )

mmm, Yes he does. If he raises tax, people will spend less, because they are bringing home less.

SAE4179d ago

taxes made for rulers , to make them rich and do what ever they want , it's not helping any country not even america , a lots of poor every where :( ..

ExCest4179d ago

@^ Death,

Uhh, are you serious?

BoNeSaW234179d ago

Oh really!?
Not sure how your projection meetings went this week but my company is cutting another 75 people in order to survive for another 4 years under anti-capitalist administration.
The president and his policies AFFECT the economy sir. Educate yourself before talking down to others.

dirthurts4179d ago

@Ideath, where do you think food stamps, medicare, etc come from? College scholarships? All tax money.
@bonesaw...sure the president can raise taxes and change policies, but in the end it's up to the company to run their show right. If the business can't cut it, it fails. Simple as that. The president can do nothing to fix that. In the end, it's the individuals.
I am very well educated, just a fyi.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

Cacabunga21h ago

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

CrimsonWing691d 17h ago

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde1d ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff21831d 16h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg1d 15h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

MIDGETonSTILTS171d 15h ago

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.
