10 games that prove originality is overrated

GamesRadar - All this talk of "knock-offs" and "clones"? It's unnecessary. Iterating off of other people's ideas is part of the creative process; these ten games offer ample proof that imitation isn't necessarily a bad thing.

"Uncharted

Inspired by: Tomb Raider"

<sigh>

Uncharted WAS NOT inspired by Tomb Raider, it was inspired by Indianna Jones and other action/adventure films because a cinematic approach is what ND wanted in Drakes Fortune.

The only thing they have in common is that they are both treasure hunters and have platform elements in their games, does every platforming game after TR mean it's a rip off. I never once saw Lara roll behind cover fiering at wave after wave of enemies then go into a fantastic story driven cutscene.

Tomb Raider was a Platforming/puzzle game with third person elements

Uncharted is a cinematic third person shooter with puzzle elements.

Totaly differnt...seriously why do people hang onto this

Ben_Grimm4186d ago

To be honest the later Tomb Raider games did have a lot more action than puzzles and they were cinematic. I mean no where close to Uncharted levels but I think that has more to do with direction and production.

And didn't Underworld have like a Max Payne type of bullet time in it? There was a ton of shooter gun play in those late installments.

I don't think Uncharted is a clone or inspired but they are not totally different.

@ jimbobwahey

Kill.Switch was a multiplatform game. But you're right though.

ShaunCameron4186d ago

Actually Tomb Raider was an action-adventure game with platforming and puzzle elements.

<I never once saw Lara roll behind cover fiering at wave after wave of enemies then go into a fantastic story driven cutscene.>

That's because Uncharted borrowed that from Gears Of War.

<Uncharted is a cinematic third person shooter with puzzle elements.>

Correction: Uncharted is Gears Of War minus the AI co-op with puzzle elements.

jimbobwahey4186d ago

Well, technically the cover system in Gears of War was copied from an old PS2 game so...

SCW19824186d ago

I love how people say uncharted borrowed from gears when they were both in development around the same time. Sad how some people think.

Jinkies4186d ago

Gears was never shown off when Uncharted was in development and they were in development roughly the same time. I don't think no one copied...it was just two games which shared a similar cover system and Gears was out first since it took ND longer wth the motion capturing. Bad luck at the end of the day

BitbyDeath4186d ago

Eight Days was the first to show that sort of gameplay this gen so who copied who?

Why did they chose LittleBigPlanet Karting, they should have chosen Crash Team Racing (CTR) for PS1, amazing game, definitely inspired by Mario Kart

The Torchlight and Diablo one is obvious

Glad they mentioned Kill.Switch for Gears of War

Kill.Switch has to be one of favorite most underrated games ever, it was one of my favorite shooter games last generation. Also one of the first to use a cover system

***"Why did they chose LittleBigPlanet Karting, they should have chosen Crash Team Racing (CTR) for PS1, amazing game, definitely inspired by Mario Kart"***

Because both have "kart" in the title. It's as simple as that. If that isn't case then why aren't they calling Mod Nation Racers a Mario Kart copycat/inspired game seeing as that is what LBK plays most similar to? I'll answer that for you, it's because it doesn't have "kart" in the title.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
