What are the possibilities of the next generation of consoles?

Prettier versions of games you have now, that's what can be expected... I think each new console will look to expand its realm in being the center of media-hub for the living room! Controlling the way in which we receive our content is paramount and key to winning over the average consumer. WiiU could launch Nintendo to Apple like status with consumers this holiday simply by the features it has built in. Sure Netflix and Hulu apps are every where these days, but TVii will be a major selling point when demonstrated.

Just look at the necklace, that looks like someone cut corners to me, just to show a pretty shiny face. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure that this will be one of the better looking PS3 games to date! But its going out on a limb to say that it looks better than any game out there.

An open world game uses a lot more power than a scripted game like Heavy Rain and Two Souls thats why scripted games look better.

a greater sense of fidelity. Finer details will be what we see more of because we have become accustomed to the bigger picture.

So what will happen is we will get an improved overall presentation on screen that brings us closer to real life. Couple that with an increase in convenience when it comes more app like features we use in every day life.

Next gen wont be about "the power" but about the presentation.

Cpu is a small chip that run everything .
Gpu is a graphical card
Apu is a chip that hold both the cpu and gpu

The last rumour says the ps4 will have the A10 apu chip ..
i searched in google , it isnot that advanced , it runs this generation games with high quality but not higher.

While true, it's the GPU and RAM that have been the bottleneck of the PS3/360. Which is why it will be the "major factors"

when it comes to gameplay, its hard to say. 3D shooters took off following halo on the original xbox. yes, there were many shooters on ps2 but i dont think any as great as halo. this gen cover systems were the rage.

stories seem to be getting deeper. character development, that type of stuff. halo and uncharted had good stories to them.

graphics, i think maybe cgi movies from 3-5 years ago will be in-game graphics next gen. thats normally how it goes. hitting avatar level of graphics which i read a few weeks ago on n4g, i just cant see happening. if it does, il be happy but im not expecting it.

I think the PS4/720 will have a 800 HP V12 under the hood. With twin Turbos. And it's going to require Jet Fuel and a nuclear reactor to power it. Who cares. You'll know when the fu*king thing comes out. Then let's talk about it.

This is why I am not concerned about Wii U being underpowered. It can easily do what PS3 can from what Gearbox has said, and much much more, because it has "Newer Technology" Gearbox has also said the Wii U is "Very, Very powerful.Now with me saying all of that. I do know that PS4 and 720 Will have more power, but even on Wii U I think that with the added power of Wii U we will see some pretty amazing things. Crytek says their Cryengin3 Runs "beautiful" on Wii U and that engine is amazing.

I expect on PS4 that I could reach everything on the interface seamlessly while in-game running multiple tasks (party chat running, in-game, and browsing the internet at the same time) then resume back to the game. All games should run 60fps in 1080p flawlessly. Of course in next-gen we should see advances detail, AI, and game play.

More open-world games I hope...the days of linear games with invisible walls or constraints should be long gone.

Expansive gameplay should be a focus.

You know why they don't want to?

Two reasons.

1. If they introduce those things, they can push the horsepower for what is contained inside.

2. If they introduce those things, they can cut corners and don't need to spend the time to detail what is beyond those borders. So laziness.

AI and gameplay could have been improved, but they tend to focus on graphics instead. I love nice graphics, but if they've needlessly kicked gameplay and AI to the curb in favor of graphics before, it stands to reason they might again.

But that's the thing about the future, you can't just look back at the past to predict it.

Sure sometimes history repeats or rhymes, but there is always other factors of the human mind with stake in the here and now that switches things up and throws a curve ball.

I'd like to see new ideas, sequels need to be more advanced than it's prequels. I'd like to see dedicated servers for every online game. I'd like to see more open world games, with better conversation wheel and better interaction with NPC's and the environment. Just to name a few...

I would ask for no loading times and not having to go through a 5 minutes endless developer list screens before getting to actually play the game...

I think that the games will run better and more smooth. Less frame rate drops. I dont think graphics will improve as much as they did with ps3 compared to ps2, but they will be better and look nice. I also think better games will come out a lot sooner than they did for this gen (the early launch title games this gen kind of sucked compared to whats possible now) because i think developers will have a better idea of whats possible.

Get a modern pc now, and you can see what the new consoles will be able to do, and in some respects you will be able to see what they are not able to do as well.

I have the same graphics card lol and I own a ps3 which I happily gamed on before and after the purchase of a gaming computer. But when I go to play a game like the witcher 2, I don't play it on a console (xbox in this case) I play on my pc in ultra settings. My response wasn't in respect to whether the ps3 is still enjoyable or whether the ps3 has great exclusives (it is and it does). It was in respect to what we can expect from next gen consoles, on a technical level, the pc I own today I can say with confidence will be on par with if not better then what Sony or Microsoft will be able to put on the market for an affordable price in the next year or two.

I plan on getting a new gaming rig soon. The one I have now runs everything on the highest settings just fine, but I kind of want a future proof system.

I imagine getting something with an Nvidia 6xx series will set me straight for the next five years or so, unless gaming takes some drastic upturn and graphics start hitting all kinds of insane benchmarks.

a 6 series and high end quad core with some 2200 ram and your good for 5 yrs easily. Were starting to see some very very low end quad core requirements so i imagine over the next few yrs we will start to see it go from 2ghz quad to 3 in requirements. for the price of a console today you can geta a high end quad core, mobo,ram,tower,psu,hardrive. So that is $200 spent with enough left over to decide how much of a dump you want to do on a video card. Tiger has a quad core combo capable of running battlefield 3 just fine for $139 minus the card and hard drive.

next gen is in aplha now on crytek 3 engine :) If you have origin and pc you can play it today. Like 1st poster said, prettier then whats out now but nothing of a jump from last gen to current etc

Personally I want a mix of high quality and normal. I mean this generation looks great, of course I'm excited to see even better. However I also want to see simply fun games. Don't worry about visuals, just make a good game that is outright fun.

We wont see a huge graphical leap with the next gen of consoles, graphics are really good where they are honestly and they wont get much better without some really expensive equiptment under the hood and that just not realistically possible with "affordably priced consoles". I think we will see a huge jump in more consistant framerates and lighting effects that make things jump to life moreso than we could see possible on current gen stuff.

If you want a sneak peak on NextGen graphics and quality look up the Unreal 4 engine demo. That engine was designed specifically to make the development process easier for next gen. They say you can see the most difference between unreal4 and current engines in the more realistic lighting effects, draw distances and particle effects. Games like KZ3 where they were claiming the snow effects were so awsome(and they were) they were only showing like 20 or so particles on screen at any one time. With unreal 4 you can have over 200 particles at any one time.

So all in all, i think the next gen will make our games a little closer to the graphics of a pixar movie or avatar or something of that nature. It won't look like the greatest jump ever but when you see how the games play and how immersive and reall the worlds will be is how next gen will shine.
