The First Ladies of Halo 4 and 343i Speak Out on Sexism on Xbox Live

Halo 4 Executive Producer, Kiki Wolfkill, and 343i's General Manager, Bonnie Ross, spoke out against the rampant sexism on Xbox Live. However, as noble as their intentions were, it takes more than the threat of a ban to rid of over the top Xbox Live behavior--it's also up to the gamer and gamer community itself to change and assist in change.

sexism or not, why are people so "bothered" that ladies/guys look a little more human?

Jinkies4187d ago

It's online what do you expect, I've heard a lot of girls be right b****es to guys aswell so it works both ways. Besides online is like a boys club, what do you expect, someone calls your mother you call theres back, if someone calls you a British Asshole you call them an American prick and if someone on your team decides to friendly fire because they think it's "funny" then you kill that son of a b****.

Seriously no offense to girls but consoles are kind of a guys thing, always have been always will be, they were always targeted at guys and that "geek" stereotype when they first came out so you either get with the program and man up or stop playing. No ones gonna change online, it's impossible.

I am not going to agree or disagree with your comment. I am a male gamer, but calling someone an Asshole is a whole lot different than calling a female a lot of that dirty crap guys say.

Think about it, we all have mothers, sisters, daughters etc, so would you want some A-Hole spewing that revolting crap at them? If you get beaten at a game, suck it up. Some of the things my sister has been called online is disgusting. I think it really shows what sex are the real girls when it comes to insults.

I agree it is mainly a male audience, but it is by no means a boys club. Anyone can join. The way I see it, the female gamers I know generally swing towards the games I like (Heavy rain, alan wake, Halo etc.). Which makes me more toward their side, rather than the pre-teen geeky boy who blasts people online with immature, empty insults.

At the end of the day, people need to decide for themselves when to grow up. If I was spoken to like that face-to-face, I'd flatten them. To bad this anonymity of the internet makes it so easy for people to get away with this crap.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

isarai149d ago

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ149d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil149d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris401d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Orchard520d ago

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90520d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos520d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90520d ago (Edited 520d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Profchaos520d ago (Edited 520d ago )

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
