Assassin's Creed III: Liberation Review | IGN

IGN: "ACIII: Liberation gets assassinating on the go, but the game misses the chance to be something special."

SonyNGP4186d ago

Now now. There's no need to be butthurt.

Nimblest-Assassin4186d ago

I agree with this review

So far liberation is a good game, but there are flaws to it.

The personas are forced on you and you can not choose which one you want often. Aveline is a forgetable character compared to Ezio, Altair and Connor

The multiplayer is a joke

Its assassins creed on the go, but there are problems in it

guitarded774186d ago

@ Nimblest-Assassin

Sure there are flaws, there are flaws with every game, but ACL is beyond ambitious for a handheld game. I'm not gonna argue the 7.2 score, but Greg Miller does say that while it looks good, it won't be confused with AC3 on consoles, which shows Greg's mindset in the review process. Obviously it won't look like AC3, but it's limitations should be taken into consideration for what they are, not compared to another game on far more powerful hardware.

wages of sin4185d ago

@guitarded,

You would have a point if Sony wasn't billing the Vita as providing console gaming on the go. Furthermore you're acting upon the assumption that he didn't take those "factors" into consideration. Unless you have proof the contrary that's your best guess.

JoGam4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

They gave the other version a 9 I believe. Or was it 8.5?

Anyhow...Still getting this and Most Wanted on Vita.

@ GametimeUK...Are you serious? You make no sense and everyone agreeing with you. Vita HAS (FACT) great game available already. So what IGN gave AC3 a 7.5 but who is IGN? The end all be all? Fraid not. Its people like you who has this industry Phucked up!

TheRealSpy4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

What, exactly, did they say in the review that makes you say something so generic and pointless?

this is the honesty i was looking for before dropping 40 dollars on a game i wasn't sure i wanted.

-Gespenst-4186d ago

The review makes good points. Deal with it.

Xof4186d ago

Is that so? But, see, even if that's true, I'm not going to read. Nor will I read any other IGN reviews.

Why?

Because I've read many, many, many reviews on IGN that failed to make any legitimate points, often berating games for their subject matter or nation of origin.

LOGICWINS4186d ago

^^So why are u even here in the 1st place if ur so adverse to IGN reviews?

rpd1234186d ago

True. I agree with a lot of them too. Avelines story is pretty weak. Whereas in AC2 and AC3 we get to see what motivates their respective Assassin's and see them mature and grow, in Liberation you're just kind of thrown in there.

TheTwelve4186d ago

Nah. Don't need to deal with it. I bought it and am playing it, instead. IGN is off this time. --- 12

Outside_ofthe_Box4186d ago

From IGN, 7.2 is average/ok. That's the way I view IGN's scores.

Nimblest-Assassin4186d ago

@Outside

7-8 is good

ACL is a good game, not great

DivineAssault 4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

im not going to ign for reviews on anything vita anymore.. I bought gravity rush & liked it, they bashed it.. I bought retro rampage & liked it, they bashed it.. I bought SFxT & liked it, they bashed it.. This will be opened in 5 min & ill like it, they bashed it.. Nope, i wont take their opinions on anything anymore.. since they gave AC3 on consoles an 8.5, this is roughly a point behind so i know its good.. i guess unless its a nintendo game, COD, or Halo, it sucks..

Im not saying the review is terrible but dont judge it based on console standards cuz its a handheld

Gamesgbkiller4186d ago

Yah!
I'll buy the game then i'll see the review !

MattyG4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

They didint bash Gravity Rush, it got a 7.5 this isn't school grading. A 7.5 is a good score. And as for ACIII's 8.5, an 8.5 is great. Just because it isn't a 9 doesn't mean its a bad game.

Kingthrash3604186d ago

So u think gravity rush is a better game than ac lib?

Blastoise4186d ago

@Sanquine90

Give it a rest. I'm sick of hearing about Call of duty. It has no relevance.

Sanquine904186d ago

Downvotes.. Pff people do not see that this scares potential buyers. Most people think games who earned a 9 is a good game and below is bad.

Qrphe4186d ago

@Blastoise

But it's the truth, to IGN, COD and FIFA are quality titles every year.

The game isnt as good as it was hyped up to be....get over it

Ron_Danger4186d ago

Says the person who played and already beat it so they have a valid opinion on it...

CalvinKlein4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

I wasnt that hyped for it but I got it and it is closer to the console AC games than I had ever imagined possible.

Id review it as a handheld game and so far Id give it a 9 easy. Find me another open world game on handheld that is even close to as good as this game besides gravity rush. You wont.

edit- The game has flaws but I can easily get past them for what this is, and actual console-like AC game on the VITA. The worst thing about the game is the framerate that dips sometimes and the forced touchscreen parts. Maybe a patch could help the framerate but its playable always and smooth sometimes.

There is some good use of the touchscreen tho such as selecting weapons or my favorite, touching the mini map in the bottom left to bring up the full screen map.

Some of the flaws of this game are just flaws of the whole AC series so they shouldnt expect something different. Ive only finished the first 3 AC games but this is just like the console ones. Its got journal pages to find that tell the story of her mom, treasure chests that can sometimes be tricky to get, the same free running and climbing of the console game, even the tree stuff of AC 3. Its got the same combat from the console games with cool takedowns and weapons, the same viewpoints to climb, piles of stuff to jump into with hay that falls off no matter what kind of pile it was...it has it all.

The persona system is ok and has some parts I dont like, like not being able to climb when the lady, but it is also good because it changes up the gameplay and you get to have 3 different wanted levels for each disguise.
It doesnt have multiplayer but I didnt like it anyways so I dont care. It is also less money than the console versions so I dotn hold it against them.

I think DivineAssault is on the right path here. In order to find a review site you can use, you find a site that lines up with your tastes. If you find a site that continually bashes games you enjoy, then why would you use that site to help you with your purchasing decisions? You wouldn't. Find a site that you agree with more often than not.

Personally, as much as I tend to detest Gamespot for some of their questionable management decisions over the years I generally find that these days I'm in agreement with their game reviewers. I'll use a combination of Gamespot and Metacritic to help make up my mind. I've always found IGN hit and miss.

Something I see they've added to metacritic is an option to see how the reviewer you selected generally reviews compared to others. Is a reviewer harder on games then others or will they give anyone a pass? I find that interesting. Just for comparison, according to Metacritic, IGN generally scores 4.2 points lower than average.

Fez4186d ago

There's a difference between liking a game and trying to objectively review one. With a 7.2 they obviously liked the game too, but you can't just not tell people about the negative points of a game e.g. framerate, story... nor can you tell people about the bad points and then not lower the score.

Cannot believe you think 7.2 means a game sucks.

Outside_ofthe_Box4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

It's not that 7.2 means it "sucks", it's that it's average. People want to pay for above average games. Nobody wants to settle for "meh, nothing special, but it ain't bad/doesn't suck." People want to settle for "good" when it comes to spending their money.

Just saying.

"And it shall pass that the reviewer can't get off level one. And he shall not care for the game, or want to play it for more than 20 minutes. But lo, he shall be fearful of the software company dropping advertising, and missing him off the free crate of beer list at Christmas, and he shall tremble and quake mightily as all rival outlets have given it a high score. So he shall give it a score low enough to dissuade potential buyers, yet high enough to pacify the software people. And that score shall be the NUMBER OF THE BEAST, and it shall be 72 percent".

I_LOVE_MYSELF4186d ago

Will I ever find enough reasons to justify purchasing a PSVita? I want one so bad, but it just looks like developers drop the ball on every single title they decide to release on the system.

Eazy-Eman4186d ago

Wait until Persona 4 Golden comes out. It'll be a stellar game

Ron_Danger4186d ago

I'm picturing Stewie Griffin slowly squinting his eyes and asking "are you retarded?!"

Adva4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

So you think developers dropped the ball on Vita?
What about Rayman, Uncharted, Gravity Rush, WipeOut, Fifa 11 (the release game, not the new one), Need for Speed and many more. Heck Liberation isn't a bad game, it's good. Not excellent, bug good. What else do you want from it?

Sure there are bad games in there like Resistance, and soon CoD, but that doesn't mean all the other good games are bad.

I_LOVE_MYSELF4186d ago

Rayman is brilliant, but it lacks Coop on the vita. Uncharted looks solid. Gravity Rush didn't score highly, but I hear it's amazing. Wipeout simply isn't for me and neither are most sport titles.

Uncharted and LBP are the 2 stand out titles for me. What do I want from it? Okay, let me tell you...

PSP had God of War, GTA, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy 7 CC, Metal Gear Solid: PW and other great games with unique versions build for the PSP. I want to see these sort of games on Vita before I buy one.

And developers have dropped the ball... Call of Duty could have been impressive and it seems all the vita is at this point is a bunch of PS3 games on an inferior device so they have to take content out. I want my fave franchises and I want the games to build from the ground up specifically for the system.

DigitalRaptor4186d ago (Edited 4186d ago )

@ -GametimeUK-

So essentially you're batting on a moot point.

God of War: Chains of Olympus - 2008
Crisis Core - 2008
Peace Walker - 2010

The majority of those excellent games came out 3-5 years after PSP came out. Monster Hunter and GTA were excellent games that came out in the PSP's first year, but as far as I'm aware Rayman Origins, Uncharted, and Gravity Rush are all great games that have come out in the Vita's first year as well.

So there you have it. Why have the standards that have applied to every platform, not apply to Sony?

SamPao4186d ago

Gravity Rush mate, that one is out of this world...!

saimcheeda4186d ago

Vita isnt selling well and games like uncharted and assassins creed are needed to push the system but whats the point if we're not getting the quality expected? The PS3 has become successful because of its quality lineups and that is exactly what the ps vita needs too.

Christopher4186d ago

***PSP had God of War, GTA, Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy 7 CC, Metal Gear Solid: PW and other great games with unique versions build for the PSP. I want to see these sort of games on Vita before I buy one. ***

Not in its first, let alone second, year...

Give it time.

Coming from the guys that gave pokemon black and white 9.1.
And stating they were expecting domething special that is downright bullcrap if you ask me.
pokemon hasn,t change since the gameboy color and they gjve 9.1?
Lol

kopicha4186d ago

their sfxt review proves it all. giving negative remarks on something that another game have done worst yet it got a 8.5 and sfxt did better but gets a 6.6. In any case, i dont give a shit about them even giving this game a 1/10. most importantly is the person who buy it must enjoy it. their review means nothing to someone who actually enjoy the game.

Loved his English accent. But as an assassin, he was an out n out pirate.

FlexLuger3100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

Ezio! Plus leonardo davinci made all his fancy killing gear. Nuff said.

EDIT: And Ezio was the best dressed too. They nailed that italian flair with his outfit. Most stylish assisn too, then!

GigawattConduit3100d ago

Man, I would love a film of Ezio and da Vinci together, just on adventures. They're the perfect duo.

guitarded773100d ago

Ezio is the bestest assassinz. The other characters don't even compare. Conner was the worst.

PerfidiousSinn3100d ago

Ezio has a half-cape. He wins by default.

GigawattConduit3100d ago

The secret to the awesomeness of the Assassins has finally been revealed!

Relientk773100d ago (Edited 3100d ago )

Ezio

Hands down and he has the coolest full name

Ezio Auditore da Firenze

GigawattConduit3100d ago

Pretty sure that's Italian for "I'M THE BEST AND I CONQUER ALL OF YOU"

Heyxyz3100d ago

Best: Ezio!

Worst: The one from Unity (he was so bad I forgot his name).

GigawattConduit3100d ago

Hey, he wasn't that bland! His name was Brad, jeez.

Castlevania3100d ago

Arno. He was kinda bland (or so people say).

Mystogan3100d ago

Nah the worst was Ratuhnkahetun AKA Connor.

Dark_Overlord3099d ago

Totally agree, I hate AC3 due to him. How could they create such an unlikable character :/ I preferred Haytham to him.
