Is IGN Dr. Evil?

Yesterday marked the release of the newest Medal of Honor title from EA Games. This is in fact the second title since the reboot of the franchise which came out during October of 2010. While reviews of the game were mediocre it was a big step for the franchise after ditching the WW2 setting to directly compete with the Modern Warfare title Activision publishes.

Cod gets high reviews everywhere though. I personally eoukdbt score them as high as a 9 but the games are highly polished and entertaining. The treyarch games are also surprisingly well written. After playing with moh games i can safely say cod is way ahead on everything other than the sound department. Imo

Actually it has been proven time and again that IGN is corrupt. They have been caught lying about titles for site hits and that's at EIC and Senior level writer levels.

this article is dumb and seems to make little sense. most* people read reviews to help them determine if a game is worth the investment or not so tech. ign warning customers to hold off would just be them doing their jobs.

i have little doubt ign reviews some games fairly and bumps some scores for money but calling them dr evil is a bit of a stretch lol. read/watch the reviews and use the info they provide in any way you want. its just their opinion, we typically dont see eye to eye on games but their reviews do what i personally need them too more often then not and thats a description of the final features and gameplay.

While this article isn't exactly good by any means, it did actually make me think about the trailers released by Medal of Honor with press coverage quotes in them. Especially with the major one being pushed by EA "Warfighter won me over" or whatever it said, but it was by IGN. Expecting about a 6 or 7 from IGN, so we'll see how it matches up with their previews...

Because I guarantee you that even though it's 2x as much it's 100x better than Ravaged.

The initial reviews were good for Ravaged, but you know how there's lots of games that don't get reviewed by a lot of sites, so with it being an online only PC game, I decided to take the plunge.

It sucks. Only about 30 people playing it, and only on the 'demo' version. So you buy the game, and can basically only play the same version as the free demo, as that's the only map they allow, and the only one that has people on it of any significance.

Meanwhile I booted up MoH (multiplayer) on PC, as I could care less about FPS campaigns to be honest.

It was good. I played the 360 demo before my 360 crashed lol that's a 360 for you, and thought it was fun.

On PC the game looks much better. It doesn't have quite the same look as BF3, overall it's not quite as good. In some ways it's better, but all of this could be on the style of how it's played. It's definitely a more linear online shooter (where linear isn't a good word). But you run around more like CoD then Battlefield 3.

So it's a smaller map that you run around in like CoD, but using BF3 engine, yet still different.

When you spawn on your squadmate, you can only do so if he's not in trouble/spotted. So that's a good change from BF3 so you don't spawn on your team and take a bullet meant for them lol.

Lots of unlocks. Interesting maps. While I've only played a couple, I really did like how they are multi layered you can run inside buildings, and there are alot of different little holes (for lack of a better word) where you can see inside of a building, or even be on one side or a building looking into a window able to shoot in, or even shoot through the window on the other side. Good sightlines, but not necessarily for the long sniper. Good medium range sightlines.

I was expecting something different than BF3. If people were expecting more BF3, then I can understand your complaint, but it was pretty obvious it was going to be more like EA's CoD...but different too.

I like it. It's not perfect, but I'd still give the multiplayer an 8.5, which many people would consider a 10. An 8.5 is a very solid score, and well worth the purchase.

I never use IGN for reviews, I use gametrailers I find them very fair (99% of the time) plus it is split into good sections.

I like the game. Campaign was pretty sick IMO. And multiplayer even though its kinda buggy right now. I still enjoy the hell out of it! And once the bugs are fixed ill enjoy it even more! :)

Glad to get some opinions. I'm waiting on a premium edition though, got screwed by pre-ordering BF3 to get B2K, only to either wait 2 weeks for new maps or pay for premium which includes B2K. And then the patches have made it worse where it gets stuck in loading loops randomly, audio drops, spawn without weapon, etc.

Is the engine still that buggy?

I think people should be careful to blindly trust ANY review. Some like pizza and some don't. Some like listening to Metallica and some dont.

Some just love Call of Duty games, and some hate it with every fiber of their body.

Most of the games i've played over last 2 years were based of reviews and i didn't enjoy playing most of them(including some hits like darksiders 2, batlefield 3, diablo 3, starcraft 2 and many more).

Then i tried picking games by the simple feeling of --this could be fun to play-- and after that i enjoy a lot of games that get scores like 6/10 or lower.

What? That was a poorly written and disjointed article. IGN is not the only site to not review MOH. Gametrailers and GiantBomb haven’t reviewed the game yet. If you look at the places that have, POMUK, Eurogamer, the game has poor reviews. Shane Satterfield and Marcus Beier on Invisible Walls stated how they did not get the game from EA to review, which is why their review is not up yet. They also said that when a company has confidence in their game, they send out review copies with ample time. EA does not have confidence in MOH, which is why the big sites are yet to review it. IGN may be Dr. Evil for other reasons, but not for not reviewing MOH or giving it a low score. You can hate them, but your reasons have to be just, not this trite.

I feel that that some people in IGN are stupid. I am a big time Silent Hill fan and I got Silent Hill Downpour and IGN rated it a 4.5 when other gamesites were rating is 7 to 8.

I played and felt the game was at least an 8. I think the lack of enemies design and technical issues were the only thing hurting the score but the overall game is pretty good!

So I will never look at IGN as a good source for reviews! I feel they get people who don't even play the games to even know what the F they are talking about!? Two bad things in the gaming industry. Gamestop and IGN!

Well, if you stopped reading publications that gave GTA IV a perfect score, then you must be short on game sites to visit. You can't go to IGN, GameSpot, Eurogamer, Edge, Game Informer, EGM, Kikizo, GameSpy, G4, Giant Bomb, 1UP, GamePro, VideoGamer, GameDaily, GamesTM, OXM UK, GamesRadar, GameShark, OPM, or OPM UK.

Awesome! I have to agree with the author that he noticed the same thing I noticed about IGN saying to hold off on buying the game till they reviewed it. As a person in the marketing industry, I would be furious if a media outlet told their followers to hold out on buying a product our company created. But then again, the media outlet is looking for the best interest of their audience, and the article did point out that EA sent the copy of the game on the day of release for reviewing. We will have to see.

Once upon a time IGN was a source that i trusted for game reviews. Those days are finished. Activision throws money at them and they give the same recycled game no less then a 9 every year. COD is as generic as you can get but it gets very high scores. They are indeed corrupt. You cant trust any video game reviewer any more.

Ive never gone by reviews, Its just another opinion of the game. Sure they go over quality but only briefly.

I have always been able to tell if I want to get a game by just watching it being played, you can tell if it is going to be fun or not.

Two of my recent favourite purchases have been Chivalry medieval warfare & Primal Carnage, two unknown indie games that would probably recieve a 6/10 from IGN but both of which are just a hell of alot more fun to play than the AAA games of today.

Chivalry: First person medieval multiplayer hack and slash that is very fun to play

Primal Carnage: Dinosaur vs human multiplayer combat.

Both unique and fresh ideas away from the typical Halos, Gears, CODs, BFs etc etc that are under appreciatted.

For Example: Medal Of Honor may have some problems, but the game itself runs soooo smooth and MP it's a great mix between COD and BF3. Love it so far!

I have seen their video review of Leviathan right few days in front of release that DLC, Gamble said straight to face of their journalist that there won´t be a change of endings just little add upon the conversation with Catalyst, yet IGN fart out their review with big caption like: LEVIATHAN WILL CHANGE ENDINGS !

IGN is everything but not credibile, but in these times of crisis is most of the journalist just a paid jackals.
