id Software, Doom 3 BFG Edition and how the mighty has fallen in the eyes of PC gamers

There is no reason why PC gamers should even buy the BFG edition...ID,has turned into another below average studio pumping out sorry ass ports....I couldn't stand Doom 3 thought it was garbage..PC gamers find a copy of the reg Doom 3 and make use of the created mods.

Totally, the texture modders out there who especially did GTA4, Doom 3 being the other, do a FANTASTIC job, it brings me to question why the fuck these supposed 'Professionals' take a long ass time milking their shit when it takes random people that potentially no one has heard of, or just a bunch of teenagers with a passion and they can get shit down in short time and accomplish so god damn much. Almost like comparing an 80 year old sprinting at the olympics versus a 25 year old in progress...

iD made a horrible new IP that was overrated based on John Carmack and his 'teh engine making skills' (Rage), it bombed. Doom 3 was a good step and transition to 'Full' 3D(So to speak) from Doom 2 amongst Return to Castle Wolfenstein which I still love to play. Just, Doom 3 has many flaws you have to ignore and to keep playing, like the whole Flashlight-at-all-times and the bland weapon noises, the 'Everything is black meme' which makes me laugh quite easily. iD was mighty. I think really what happened was, they lost their passion, to them it's Business and they lost sight of what's important.

To all those with vision, creativity, and passion....They are the ones at the front, or rear, but nonetheless, the ones who're making the games that are Unique, underrated, hidden gems or widely known, whatever they may be. We ALL know which ones they are. iD games, are none of them now.

I don't see myself buying BFG edition for PC as I already have both Doom 3 games and sourceports available for Doom 1&2 are a lot better. TBH, I never really saw any reason why I would want to buy Doom 3 again for PC.

HOWEVER, the PS3 version of the game is the definitive console version of the series. Because of the slight adjustments revolving around the light being mounted and with limited rechargeable power ala Halo:CE, Doom 3 actually does go back more to it's tight corridor twitch shooter formula and it's s lot easier to change weapons instead of the original release of Doom 3 where it was more of a survival horror. In other words, BFG Edition on console is a lot more FUN. The Lost Missions is pretty decent despite taking already used assets and the areas in Hell are actually more on par to how Hell should've looked like in the original Doom 3 in the first place.

It's a shame about the lack of realtime shadows and hitting zombies over the head with the torch, but except for that, BFG Edition is s great package, now hear me out; FOR CONSOLE GAMERS. That is until the PC modders come through anyway.

This article is crap and misleading - straight from the first sentance where they claim that ID TECH 5 engine is used, where in fact it's the same old ID TECH 4 engine with some featrues added (similar to ET:QW) - but it's not a true ID TECH 5 games. The Eurogamer comparison shows it best:

The thing is, Doom 3 was never a very good game to start with. It was a simple and linear old school game, especially after games like Halo and Riddick were already out (and right before Far Cry and Half Life 2 were released). The only saving point was the superb graphics in 2004 standards, but today it's just not too much of an eye candy anymore.

Design wise, Rage is far superb to any of the previous games from ID software, and hopefully they will keep this momentum and the design choices going forward.
Doom 3 BFG is just a nod to the past, not what we should expect in the future. Thankfully it will also be open-sourced soon.

Doom 3 is/was a good game. Certainly when it came out. It's the only game to have scared the shit out of me too.

Just a shame these days all the gaming industry cares about is money. Now Doom is going to get a bad rep because of this. Should be £9.99 tbh.
