This generation, just as the past two, the PlayStation has been home to some of the best franchises in gaming. With a combination of the great, old fan favorites of yester-year to the high-profile, big budget blockbusters of this generation; the PlayStation is home to the most number of iconic video game franchises in the gaming world. Every gamer knows who Sweet Tooth or Kratos and Jak are, but now Sony has added other great faces to their list of blockbuster, immortal list of outstanding characters in great franchises. Let’s take a look at Sony’s current home console, the PlayStation 3, and see who among the crowd are the Top 5 best franchises of the PlayStation 3. We have a lot to choose from…this will be hard.

but here is the thing, you can EASILY name the top 20 without breaking a sweat, sony and its ps3 has soo many to name.

At first I thought they were only counting series that started on PS3, but they have Killzone there so that can't be it.

I agree with all of those, but so many are just as deserving to be on the list like Gran Turismo, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Twisted Metal, Sly Cooper, MotorStorm, etc.

If you read the second paragraph in the article, it explains why those games are not included;
"There is one stipulation that I will go off of; to make it a technical franchise on the PlayStation 3, there needs to be more than one game on the system; so sorry, but Twisted Metal, Sly Cooper and a few others cannot be considered."

There's only been one God of War game for PS3 which is why they didn't count it. After God of War: Ascension it will go straight to #1 because it is the most beloved, most critically acclaimed and 2nd best selling franchise Sony has. right now, they're all masterpieces.

As for this top 5 list by PSaddiction:

Infamous - Boring (haven't played the sequel).
Resistance - First is ok, second is boring, third is great!
Killzone - 2 was boring, 3 was slightly less boring, meh.
LittleBigPlanet - Best Sony IP created this gen, brilliant.
Uncharted - First sucks, second is good, third sucks.

To say inFamous and Killzone 2 were boring calls into question your definition of "fun."

You couldn't find a bigger PlayStation fan than me. But he's right about a few things. Infamous was kind of boring when I first played it and I also have not played the second one. Couldn't really get into the characters.

First and second Uncharted had a good story and was fun. Didn't really like the third one that much.

Graphics in Killzone 2 & 3 was amazing. Found the story boring. I think it was too dark and took it self too serious. Have not played LBP as yet.

I guess it all depends of each person's taste and what they like
