30 Days Until Wii U: Did You Pre-Order?

IGN - Why some of us can't wait for Wii U - and why some of us can.

In exactly 30 days, the next generation of video game consoles will officially kick off. Half of you are rolling your eyes at that statement and half of you are probably nodding in agreement, so I reached out to my fellow IGN editors to see if things were just as divisive around here.

Pre-ordered Deluxe Edition with Mario U, Zombie U and a Pro Controller. Can't wait for the midnight launch and a couple days of calling in sick. Got BlOps 2 on the 13th, Wii U on the 18th and PSASBR on the 20th. I paid it all off already so my wallet won't hurt so much. I'm still trying to decide on one more game for the Wii U launch though. I've narrowed it down to Scribblenauts, Tekken Tag 2 or Assassin's Creed 3. Obviously I would automatically pick AC3, but I don't know if it will have trophies/achievements of the Wii U. If not, I'll get it for PS3 since it has bonus content. Ahhh... first world problems... how do I manage?

I've no problem getting the Wii U. They have a great launch window. It's not like the PS3 were all you were getting was a Blu-ray player and Resistance:Fom and have to wait 2-3 years to get some good games to play.

I agree. I've always been an early adopter but this gen I was just burned too badly. Numerous 360 hardware issues and with the Wii, I had no idea just how much I'd hate the Wii-mote, and how it's motion control would just be tacked on to everything replacing the most basic button presses with waggles. I wanted to like it as I've always been a huge Nintendo fan, but I couldn't force myself to play the damn thing.

With the Wii-U, right out of the gate it has the pro-controller which gives me hope for playing the types of games I like the way I want, but I'll still wait a year or two. This gen's got some decent legs to it and I'm in no hurry. It's not like I've got a shortage of games to play. The backlog of excellent games alone that I haven't had time to play yet would probably last me the next couple of years even if not another single game came out this gen.

Indeed. Pre-ordered a Premium Pack along with (reluctantly), New Super Mario Bros. U. I'm sure the game will be good but after rinsing New Super Mario Bros 2 only a month or 2 ago, kind of wanted a break from Mario for a while. But seeing as Rayman was delayed, was the next best thing. Not long now.

What i'm really looking forward to is Wii U's Q1 2013 line up. Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3 and Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate is easily 150 Hours + of AAA quality entertainment. My wallet isn't ready.

Nah, I can understand that feeling. And I do have a PS3. I just like to have multiple consoles. And I can't wait for some of Nintendo's exclusives. Zelda is my favorite series. You can't get those on the PS3 or 360 or their successors. But I enjoy getting consoles on first day. I did that the past two generations.

But I definitely see where you are coming from, but innovation is helping my purchase. I like the Wii U controller.

i got my pre-order with Toys R Us, i was ready to buy NSMBU, Zombie U and COD, and then i saw that for some unknown (but completely idiotic) reason, Toys R Us doesnt let you change the shipping address on an order (like every other website does), even if that order wont ship for another 2 months.... so the temporary address that i put just to guarantee i got the pre-order became my doom....

Now ill spend the money on bunch of games on Black Friday/Steam Sale and get the WiiU on Jan/Feb with even more games...

Does anyone else think it's weird that someone would work at IGN and NOT preorder the first new console that's been released in six years? My hobby is video games so if I don't buy a console it doesn't matter, but if my career revolved around gaming you can bet I'd buy every console day one just to keep up with my company's industry.

I reserved my Premium Black along with scribblenauts unlimited and super mario bros U. Launch day seems so damn far away. Im on the fence about ZombiU. Hopefully there will be demos of full games this time. (do you hear me NINTENDO!) I looks cool but Ubisoft is so damn inconsistent these days. Nope. I won't buy a console/handheld at launch ever again. I'm going to wait a while before I buy one. Game droughts suck and there is no telling how reliable the hardware will be.

Never, but with the Wii, DS, and 3DS, there were pretty long game droughts till after the 1st year. So yeah, I think I'll wait.

Don't get my wrong though. The Wii U looks like a fantastic system...though ports a Mario game and Zombie U aren't enough to make me want to buy it. Maybe in Fall 2013 it will have a good selection of exclusives for me.

I agree totally, it's not for everyone. I am getting it only because I see value personally. ZombiU, AC3 and Black Ops 2 are all games I wanna play. I can get the wifey involved with games like NSMBU and Rayman when it drops. I wanna download a couple of the eShop titles like Trine 2 and Little Inferno. Plus when the other first party Nintendo games inevitably come (Zelda, Metroid, 3D mario) I will be all over them too.

But nothing wrong with waiting if you want to ensure you have enough games to keep you busy.

I am a gamer, so as a gamer, I like to play all or as much that is out there. I have always been a Nintendo fan so I will always get their consoles, however I have a 360 that I did most of my gaming on (even though I had a Wii as well). Why limit your gaming experiences because you like to "perceive" a system as poor in your mind because you swear allegiance to another company? To me that just means you miss out on a lot of games.

If it doesn't interest you, then it doesn't interest you, but that shouldn't be code for "I don't like it so it sucks". Oh well, can't please everyone I guess.

Regardless, I have my black deluxe on preorder with ZombiU, NSMBU and Black Ops 2. Going to be a long day on the 18th.

I always get in on the cutting edge when it comes to gaming and hardware. The Premium bundle is obviously the better option, they should have just not offered the other version and focus on more premium packages. Considering it was just $50 more, it doesn't make sense to go with the Standard edition.

Nintendo probably should have made the white standard edition $249-$279, then it would have made a little more sense to me. I'm extremely satisfied to have gotten a pre-order in for a Premium bundle.

Thanks to this site I preordered and laid away my WiiU at Walmart! Got the deluxe! I've got until Dec. 14 to pay for it but the Mrs. won't let me crack it open until Christmas morning. I'm buying Black Ops 2 and maybe around June-ish I'll be ready for ZombieU and Arkham City! I'm so excited! My co workers are like, "Ok enough with the WiiU!" but I say, Wah-wah-wahooooo!
