Gaikai sued over alleged patent infringement

T5 Labs is attempting to sue cloud gaming firm Gaikai in the Delware courts.

GribbleGrunger4205d ago (Edited 4205d ago )

LOL! Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water... This will keep the Gaikai profile high on many sites though, so it's actually good news and great promotion. Thank you T5 Labs and the person who posted it here.

Ben_Grimm4204d ago

Uh oh! I bet this is a plot to somehow destroy Sony! I just know it, this can't be a coincident.

sikbeta4204d ago

Or maybe there is actually a patent infringement and not some conspiracy against Sony...

insomnium24204d ago (Edited 4204d ago )

Yeah sikbeta. Might just be something like that.

It wouldn't be no conspiracy ben if someone was set to destroy Sony. All the people who actually aren't noobs to this website knows how things were in here in 2006-2008.

Yeah yeah you are going to reply with that same "blah blah ancient history blah show me teh proofz" but since it was clearly YOU who brought up the word "conspiracy" which was used quite heavily back in the first few years of this gen it was actually YOU who brought all this "ancient history" as a topic of discussion unintentionally or not.

I am in no way obligated to show you proof of anything. Maybe you should just try and keep your mouth shut on a website you know nothing about/just recently aquainted yourself with if you can't take the heat hmmm?

Ben_Grimm4204d ago

@Sikbeta

There may be a patent infringement, who knows, it didn't stop Gribble from planting the seeds of disbelief.

@Insomnium

You are so boring it's truly hilarious. No one is bringing up ancient history, I am talking to Gribble and he knows exactly what I am referring too. You on the other hand can't wait to write down 2006-2008 so you make up sh*t to justify your rants. But let me get it out for you:
Back in the days the Xbox fans use Metacritic, say PS3 is teh Doomz, say PS3 has no games....uuuum PS3 has no crosschat, PSN is inferior to Live....uuum...hmmmm anything else you want to keep digging up and reliving CONSTANTLY Insomnium?

Did I get it all, I mean me being such a "noob" on this site I can't possibly imagine all the hardships and trouble you had to endure way back in the good old days of 2006 - 2008. I was just a wee youngin suckin on my momma's tit oblivious to this website and the goings on of this here internets.

HA! You can't show me proof because you have none. Which is why I own you and father you every time son. Now go fetch me the kettle and put back the whipping stick, I'm done here.

4205d ago
shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4205d ago (Edited 4205d ago )

ugh more suing. Apple has really started a trend here.

JoGam4205d ago

And you see how it helped Samsung. Galaxy S3 are selling crazy. They just announced the Galaxy S3 Mini.

Chitown712914204d ago

Youre really proud of the Galaxy S3 mini?

raytraceme4204d ago (Edited 4204d ago )

Samsung is a cheap company who makes cheap products. They have no software that is innovative and mooch off of others for it. In the gaming (sony is a leader), music (sony is the biggest), and movie world if sony fell their would probably be less in terms of what we get. If samsung fell no one would care. Samsung and apple are really bad for the gaming industry and so for that they can go die.

morganfell4204d ago

No, racy, just no. Try looking past the end of your street.

BitbyDeath4204d ago

You know how the old saying goes, you can't spell apple without .... being sued

insomnium24204d ago

AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Thank you good sir I needed the laugh. It's 8 am here and I just arrived at work so this little laugh waked me up a little.

pupa4204d ago

“Sharing a Graphical Processing Unit Between a Plurality of Programs"

Oh my word, you can patent any group of words and find some global infringement. Aholes!

badz1494204d ago

then will Nvidia get sued too?

and this is too vague just like Apple's slide to unlock patent! seriously, this kind of STUPID and DUMB patents really need to go!

patents should be something smart and bright people are getting for their IP but why is it so STUPID most of the times?

Gaikai Talks PlayStation Now

GameInformer- "We recently spoke with Gaikai CEO David Perry about all things PlayStation Now. The longtime developer joined the cloud-gaming company in 2009 and in 2012 Sony acquired it to form the core of PlayStation Now. Check out our interview as we touch on signing with Sony, remote play, what it takes to get a game on PS Now, expansion to more devices, overcoming rough cloud-gaming experiences, and looking to the future."

Great interview and some good opinions about the future of gaming. Sony will dominate if they get the pricing right and bring playstation now to browsers and TV sets. Imagine buying a Sony Bravia and being able to play ps1 and ps2 games without a console? Thats a huge selling point right there. Something they need right now as there TV department is leaking money badly.

Hk85karlsson3498d ago

Ironically, their TV:s are the best for gaming.
Some of the newer ones (from 2013 and beyond) have a superb low input lag.

That was almost plasmas alone back in the day. I like Sony products, I'll get me a Xperia Z3 when it launches.

mkis0073498d ago

The Sony tv's we sell at costco are starting to come with thew ps now beta sticker. ( as in it is available on the tv's already.

ramiuk13498d ago (Edited 3498d ago )

would certainly help fix there tv department losses.
sony brava tv with playtv and ds4 pad would be epic.

there tvs are from 4ms upwards for input lag (best tvs for gaming imo)
i just hope they bring the ps4 stream to Z2,because its what i just got other month and spec wise its same as Z3

KingDadXVI3694d ago

I really don't see the market for this to be honest. I know I will get disagrees but seriously the cost to return ratio is not there right now.

I applaud Sony for making a go of it but I just don't see the "huge quantity" of people needed to pay for this. Most gamers have the old consoles anyway so won't bother to stick with a service that provides backwards compatibility. If it could be provided at a small fee, like $5 per month and still make money then I could see it but is demand really there or will it just be a quick fad where people buy in for a month or two because it is the new thing and then drop it?

Far too small a margin to be realistic IMO and that does not take into account the fact that the broadband infrastructure will not support high quality visuals with no lag time or the net neutrality rulings that are going to continue the bandwidth throttling, data cap pricing pogrom that is happening right now. I think that streaming games will come but it is not ready for prime time yet.

I could be wrong but I think this is a waste of money that could be spent on new games.

@The_Infected "Microsoft talked about cloud power more than anything and they seem to be showing the least of all the other big players."

Which is more realistic?

1. Computing a whole game on a server, sending player inputs across the net to that server, and then sending the results back to the same gamer with out lag or visual compression artifacts at a cost that consumers are willing to pay for. All on games that are old and or currently on the market to own forever at a decent price?

2. Computing physics, AI, visual backgrounds, game hosting providing level playground for all players?

7 Reasons Why You Should Be Worried About PlayStation Now

Sony’s recent announcement of the Gaikai-powered PlayStation Now has got everyone very excited. It’s understandable: the promise of being able to remotely stream games is an attractive one, especially when it’s sold under the premise of being able to do it anywhere, from any device. But all is not as good as it seems. Here are 7 reasons why you should be worried about Sony’s streaming service.

8 pages, for an article that could of fit on 1, 2 at most...

I stopped at 2...

zeee3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

Thanks for the warning. I was going to read this but 8 pages for a simple article? Hell no!

If the website owner is reading this, please know that page impressions can also be earned/increased with genuine, unique and interesting content. Splitting it into multiple pages kills the user's interest and makes a site far less user-friendly.

Sethry1013749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

Its just been announced, and we haven't even been told all the info, yet we should be worried?

morganfell3749d ago

7 Reasons Why the Competition Should be Worried about PlayStation Now...

*fixed*

@Sethry101, it is a bit ridiculous when every outlet that tested Now came back with the same evaluation - It actually works.

Gaming1013749d ago

lol I can't imagine being worried... what are you expecting Playstation Now is going to cure your brain cancer? Then you'd have a reason to be worried.

If you don't like the service don't buy it, plain and simple. It's not there to save your life, not that you'd have one to save if you're someone who worries over the release of a game streaming service for last gen games.

DigitalHope3749d ago

Not a good or reasonable article. More premeditated doom and gloom.

FamilyGuy3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

This article is complete trash, full of inaccuracies.
It's as though the author didn't even look into the information that's been given about the service before typing this up. Just trying to get attention because PS Now is in all the headlines atm.

For example: He says the average internet speed in the US. is 7.4 mbs and goes on to say "most won't have fast enough internet". If the "average" is 7.4 then the majority WILL have a fast enough speed. The last article I read said 5mbs was good enough.

He talks crap about PSN not being good/trustworthy when this service is through Gaikai for one and 2, PSN is already good on PS4. Why else would sony already have its live game streaming services up yet MS is still months away?

Sonys PS Now enable tvs are reported to be launching this summer yet he claims there's "no idea of when the service will reach devices other than PS3 an PS4". Saying "what's the point of having it for PS3 and PS4?" Hmm, let's see: People who don't or never owned a PS3, people who would rather rent or subscribe to a service with tons of games to play rather than buying a bunch of games? People that don't want to spend hours downloading games they could just stream instantly.

This article is trash.

johndoe112113749d ago

7 reasons you should be worried about journalists who write articles like this:

1: Their whole goal is to spread FUD.

2: They write articles without searching the facts.

3: They actually confuse weak minded individuals who generally can't think for themselves.

4: When you click on their articles and give them views it usually means you can expect more trash articles in the future.

5:A lot of them get paid more than a lot of us for writing this filth.

6:They are rewarded for writing opinionated, factually inaccurate, bias, senseless articles that are nothing but pure speculations disguised as future facts.

7: Reading articles like this can actually kill some of your brain cells

There is only one page... I am very perplexed at your post and the agrees you received.

Novistador3749d ago

I am also very confused.... 1 page with 7 reasons. 8 pages? 19 likes? I dont even...

carlingtat3749d ago

It probably was 8 pages but they fixed it down to one page.

FamilyGuy3749d ago

The website owner probably read those comments and fixed it.

Why does there always have to be some negative, doom and gloom article about everything Sony announces?

"It's sounds great, BUT what if it isn't?" O.O
Every single time, all the positive news always has to have a counter-argument by some random as if we can't weigh pros and cons ourselves.

fanboybeatdown3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

weird how the author didn't talk about the PING ssue.

It doesn't matter what sustained download speed you have if your PING is poor.

Also: Lag. That's the biggest issue. It is directly related to PING.

LAG has already been shown to be unacceptably high, even when the network connection is perfect. A recent example showed significant lag, even though the rendering server was in the next room:

redwin3749d ago

7 pages, 20 pages, 1 page. It doesn't matter, I'm from the super NES generation. I can speed read and what's more, the thoughts and statements are in the few fist sentences of each paragraph ! But now I see why MS let Sony come out with the cloud gaming first. People approve of Sony. So, we r now really going to see what this generation can really do. But I keep thinking. If they are going to bring all the games to playstation Now, why do we need a ps4? And more to the point. Do you remember when Sony said that playstation is moving to a subscription service?. I'm worry that they are really saying that this PS4 will be obsolete in 2 years.

lolCHILLbro3749d ago

Sony envisions the hardware market failing and has an escape plan, you wont need a Playstation box in 10 years, both Xbox LIVE and psn will be services or apps on your phone, Hardware is to much risk and its a backwards business, you invest the most at the start and hope you see profits, where most business's start off with profits in mind, consoles arent good business, which is why you will see more free2play, more DLC, more Microtransactions and more subscriptions for PSN and XBL, hell your lucky to see a full fledged manual booklets these days when you buy a game lol

asmith23063749d ago

If their is any indication that the hardware market is going no where any time soon, it is the launch of the PS4 and X1. Over 7m between them in six weeks. They are incredible numbers.

jackanderson19853749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

i'm hoping they changed the article since you wrote that comment but it's only on 1 page

DanielGearSolid3749d ago

Ha! They changed it to one page!

Our voice matters!

gman_moose3749d ago

7 reasons why this article shouldn't exist...

But rather than waste my time, I will state one:

Before Playstation now was announced, my life was perfectly fine, and now that PS now has been announced, my life is still perfectly fine. Why be "worried" about a service that's simply an added option to what I already find enjoyable. It's not like videogames as we know it are going away and this is replacing them. So sick of these idiotic opinion pieces getting approved as news. Time for N4G to get some standards on who they approve. A blind monkey could get an opinion piece published as its stands now.

"#6. No Games have been announced."

People just create articles for the hell of it I see. What do you mean no games have been announced when they said they will include the entire PS3 library...lmfao!!!

jackanderson19853749d ago

i thought they said they'd start with the PS3 library but didn't confirm what actual games they were going to put up

MonChiChi3749d ago

though there is no list of games yet I read that it was said they would bring "Critically Acclaimed" ps3 games. So that should shine a little light.

ALLWRONG3748d ago

Do you say that same thing when one of these gets posted about the Xbone?

NeloAnjelo3748d ago

Yes.... Nothing annoys me more than a multiple page article which can easily fit on one or two pages. GamingBolt is another known for this.

ALLWRONG3748d ago

You weren't talking about a multiple page article.

Nice try though

GutZ313749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

"1. We Don’t Know the Price"

Sorry, but that doesn't mean we should be afraid. It is a service that is elective, not needed for other functions to work on your devices.

"2. Your Internet is Probably Not Good Enough"

Sorry again, but the US statistics say otherwise. Avarage household internet speeds are well above the suggested 5Mbps minimum, at 8.5Mbps.

"3. It’s Only Going to be on PS3 and PS4 (At Launch)"

Fear? for this? Come on, thats like saying don't get an Xbox One because it wont have twitch at launch...

"4. Sony’s Not Great at Internet Services"

Fair enough. But again, not really something to be totally afraid of.

"5. It’s Only Coming to the USA"

No, it was recently stated that Europe would have it this summer as well... *EDIT* My mistake, its only US, sorry UK
:(

"6. No Games Have Been Announced"

Are you serious? No games announced makes it a scary thing?
Whens the last time a service blatantly told you every movie that is available on say, netflix from its inception?

"7. You’ll Need A DualShock 3 (Even When You’re Mobile)"

False. You will need a controller for these games, but that doesn't mean it has to be a dualshock3.

The only legitimate concern I saw in any of those was Sonys network strength. But now that they are using a subscription service, they have been much more forward thinking in regards to server power. We should see much more from sony by the end of summer, if not earlier.

*EDIT* Sorry, late to the party with the USA only launch, that sucks a bit. Still need to wait and see what they say about that.

Bladesfist3749d ago

You are confusing MB with Mb. The average is 8.5Mbps.

jackanderson19853749d ago

in regards point 5, when did they say it was coming to europe in the summer? all i'm seeing from google is "complex region, different providers" etc etc

linky linky : http://www.playstationlifes...

GutZ313749d ago

My bad, a little late to all the reversals. Even the playstation blog had it on their EU site...

Sethry1013749d ago

Agree with almost everything you say, other then while sure when It releases in the US most peoples internet should be fine. As for other countries connection speed might be a bit of a worry to those hoping to use the service.

GutZ313749d ago

Yeah, But at the same time, hopefully it pushes all countries infrastructure towards a more connected, and advanced human existence.
Or just make it faster for people to look up funny pictures of cats.

kewlkat0073749d ago

@GutZ31 - you think a video game system is going to push the worlds network infrastructure to be better? lol

GutZ313749d ago

@Kewlkat lol, no. But i wouldn't rule out streaming media to push advancement, and adoption of new technologies for all that find it convenient.

Onlive didn't change the world.
Sony isn't going to change the world, but if everyone continues copying...

Prime1573749d ago

"Sony's not great at internet services."

This type of hate always perplexed me because ms always had you pay to use live and this is the first time Sony has made you pay. In August 13, Sony made 140$ mill off of ps+ and ms made 5.6$ BILLION off of live.

It's unfathomable to throw comments like this around, it's also annoying when someone points out the pay wall. I wonder why there's a pay wall, 360 lover? Because competition dictated.

NexGen3749d ago

In regards to your number 4...Sony may have had issues with PSN before, but this is operating on the service they bought - Gaikai. PSN speed/stability is fully separate from this.
