The Trials and Tribulations of PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale

IGN - The game's director talks major hurdles, ambitions, and the ghost of Super Smash Bros.

It’s tough making fighting games in America. It’s even tougher to make fighting games in America that people will pay attention to. Omar Kendall knows this - he's a veritable veteran of the genre in America. Kendall’s most recent project, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, is a fighting game designed for both the hardcore and casual bracket.

I feel like the only person in gaming to be excited about this game.
If any of you have doubts I recommend you try it for yourselves before you judge it, it's a heck of a lot of fun.
Easy to get into but hard to master.

I'm getting it, and looking forward to beating up some PlayStation characters with Nathan Drake, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and more

edit: I only got to play it once at a music festival in a Sony tent, I used Nathan Drake. I dont know if I can have a favorite character after one game.

:)

HarryMasonHerpderp4208d ago

Good ^_^
Have you played it yet? If so who's your favourite character?

Drummerdude414208d ago

Omg i thought that too, im gonna be getting the beta when it's open for ps+ members.

I'm buying this game but I still have have my doubts about it

The building up the meter to get a kill with a special still sounds pretty stupid to me

But I'll judge ones I play it

***"Kendall’s most recent project, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, is a fighting game designed for both the hardcore and casual bracket."****

I've been saying that, but haters think otherwise.

Parappa4208d ago

It's only for the casuals (even more so now that the roster is looking dull with no signs of improvement). Omar Kendall doesn't know WTF he's doing and it shows. This game needs to be scrapped and they should make something similar but call it something else and keep it far away from Superbot.

smashcrashbash4208d ago

Yeah we heard you the first ten thousand times.

@ HarryMasonHerpderp. Don't worry you are not alone. I am excites and so are a lot of people who played the demo in the store. We will have enough people to play against onlone. Most of teh people who are not buying it because they couldn't get characters that didn't belong to them are being unreasonable. They think when Activision and SE refused they should have pulled out a gun and threatened to burn the place down if they didn't agree.

They had to go to twenty plus people to try and convince them to use their characters unlike Nintendo who own their characters. I am not sure how people can compare twenty
characters that have to be obtained as opposed to characters that directly belong to you.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69514d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop514d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard514d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi514d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin514d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus521d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer520d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
