Who are the Real Losers?

Taking a look at who lost this generation of consoles.

The real losers are the core gamers who chose to support a console, whos' manufacturer basically just sh*t on them to go after a casual cash cow audience, while in the mean time, they have to stick the same 2-3 IPs that they've been playing for 2 console gens. We all know who I'm talking about.

have you ever thought that maybe just maybe they have developers working on their next system and let the 360 live on off of casual games? it's just an idea but it's a possibility. stop being negative be positive.

the fact they need the core to make systems move. show new kickass ips to bring the core back in do that for 2-3 years of the life cycle then bring in the casuals near the end. i mean i could be completely wrong and the next xbox could become the sesame street central gaming system for all i know im just making a guess that ms is doing the start strong in a full speed dash and coat to the end so to speak.

So those games that released earlier in the year, that went largely UNBOUGHT by PS3 owners are core games? Starhawk was fun, but Twisted Metal was a wreck and should have been a PSN download title for $15.

Sly Cooper isn't coming out this year at all. Basically what I'm saying is that Microsoft, especially in the latter half of 2012 has the more core lineup. Does Sony even have a core title since March? I realize there was Twisted Metal and Starhawk and Sorcery, all of which sold very poorly, but I'm not sure what else has been released by them.

Sony taking an obvious page from Nintendo and releasing casual and family games and a lot of "collections" that most PS3 owners already own.....

PS All stars isn't casual imo. Most shooters are casual imo. Depends on your point of view I suppose. Don't think I would call Halo casual, but I don't think I would call it casual either.

Well, the console-manufacturers have to recoup the costs of R&D and manufacturing the console. And there are not nearly enough "core" gamers around to help pay the billions of dollars invested in it. There never really has been. Considering that consoles are "casual" by nature, it's only natural and logical for them to try and win that crowd. Not just to expand the existing client-base, but also to replenish it because eventually the core crowd won't be playing games forever.

That's because those core gamers didn't bother buying those other IP's besides the 2-3 IP's the manufacturer is supposedly milking. So why should the manufacturer waste its time and money on IP's that its userbase have clearly shown they're not interested in buying? It's just good ol' supply on demand. No demand, no supply.

Well, I own a Xbox, so I guess that makes me a loser then.

But I want Microsoft to drop the pay to play moto for Online gaming, and adapt more of a PS Plus moto. Instead of forcing us to pay for playing, give us bonus things for subscribing to Xbox live gold.

Since you've already established the Live brand, people will be aware of any changes and an attractive enough package would get people to subscribe.

But XBL isn't about pay for online play - its pay to be part of MS's Xbox "experience." You're paying for access to the community and the unified services within it. That said services as available elsewhere without anything other than their own costs, costs you'll have to pay in addition to XBL if you're using an Xbox or whatever else MS can get away with like they tried initially when they moved it to PC, is besides the point.

If anybody lost this gens console race, its the 360. Started a full year before Sony, now PS3's only just behind. Xbox lost to PS3 in sales if you consider this, and also lost in online service...I dont know what else there is to say.
