I still never played the Half-Life games...Even when they were 75% off. Probably because there are so many different versions of them (seriously, which ones should I be playing?). I'll still try this out though.

there are two. One has two expansions.

Start with Half Life 1, then Half Life 2, then the two expansions for two.

There is also a deathmatch which doesn't have a whole lot to with the games at all.

Then there is the Lost Coast which is basically a tech demo.

There's actually 2 full games, 2 spin-offs and 2 expansions.

Half life
Half life: Blue shift (Barney the security guard story from half life 2)
Half life: oppose force (the story of the marines)
Half life 2
Half life 2: episode 1
Half life 2: episode 2

If you have a DC you can play half life 1 and blueshift on one disc (like I did)
Or half life on the ps2 which also comes with those two chicks story (like I also did)
Then the orange box which comes with all the half life 2 (like I did)

Opposing Force came first, actually, and it wasn't a combined story - it was the story seen through the eyes of one of the cover-up soldiers. :-)

Don’t Let Modern Gaming Ruin Your Experience With Half-Life 1

JASON WRITES: When Half-Life 1 first released, it was revolutionary. Its approach to video game design and storytelling sent ripples through the gaming industry and its influence can be seen in just about every AAA game that has been released since, at least on some level.

If you are after a more modern iteration of this fantasic game, I highly suggest that you play Black Mesa (third-party remake of Half-Life made in the Source game engine).

The graphics are not top notch but they greatly enhance the experience (especially in the alien world) and the effects added are very nice.

I had a blast playing this on Steam Deck and it was a much better experience than playing vanilla Half Life 1
