Deserves to be way higher, best new IP of the year

XabiDaChosenOne4236d ago

The year isn't over yet. *looks at PSASBR

strange19864236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

*looks at Dishonored.

Also, can you really consider Battle Royale a new IP the same way games like Doshonored or Sleeping Dogs are?

vividi4236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

I am waiting for both!!

yesmynameissumo4236d ago

@strange1986
Of course PS Battle Royale is a new IP. That's like saying Sleeping Dogs isn't because of GTA or SR and Dishonored isn't because of Thief.

strange19864236d ago

@yesmynameissumo

I'm not saying it's not as much of a new IP because it's so similar to Smash Bros. I'm referring to the fact that it contains nothing but characters from existing IP's.

Double post...d'oh!

Winter47th4235d ago

Just 172K? No wonder Activision dropped it. Awesome game though, no selling potential, however.

*Hold up Dragon's Dogma and Gravity Rush*

Pushagree4236d ago

It's not a new ip. It's the sequel to True Crime:New York City. They had to change the name because of licensing issues when Activision dropped it.

GTRrocker6664236d ago

No it was an original IP named black lotus that activition forced them to make a true cri.e game. Then they somd it off because they thought it wouldnt sell and changed the name a 3rd time.

8BitSoul4236d ago

Sleeping Dogs is technically not a new IP. It was called True Crime: Hong Kong, and was meant to be the third game in the True Crime series, right up until Activision decided to drop the project. Once it was acquired by Square Enix, they changed the name to Sleeping Dogs. Not that it really matters, as the game is awesome either way! :3

GTRrocker6664236d ago

It was meant to be a new IP called Black Lotus

ForRealz174236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

It was a new IP called Black Lotus but Activision slapped the True Crime for brand recognition. Devs have said do themselves on many ocassions.

Edit - Beaten to the punch.

Rubberlegs4236d ago (Edited 4236d ago )

It actually was never a True Crimes game to begin with. It did start out as new IP until Activision picked it up and titled it as a new True Crimes. Once they canned it and Square Enix saved it they had to change the name.

Yeah Black Lotus, I remember about reading about in an interview. They had 90% of the game done before Activision canned it.

ABizzel14236d ago

It's kind of low for US, but overall the game has sold over 600k worldwide and should be at 1 million by the end of the month.

Also the game hasn't been released in Japan and won't be until the end of the month. FInally holiday shopping is right around the corner, and this game isn't necessarily a Day 1 buy for most people, but on Black Friday it should be on sale for $30 or less, so there's a chance it can still put up more sales then.

Awesome_Gamer4235d ago

Both this and Darksiders 2 deserved to sell even more imo, great games!

Just bought my copy yesterday. Amazing game!!! Some funny moments and great action.

Qrphe4236d ago

So I guess neither United Front nor Vigil cut close to being even?

Simco8764236d ago

It's a great game, but can't cut it with the other open world games. Just not enough to do.

Game boils down to cop missions and street races. Item collection is a cheap way to add replay value.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil1d 7h ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai1d 1h ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing6912h ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle11h ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal11h ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

Abnor_Mal7h ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

boing110h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

Bloodborne is a game I still restart and play every few months. I would welcome just a re release in 60fps with a visual upgrade. It's a perfect game. If I was king for a day I would include the randomizer mods because then it would be a kind of rogue like and I could play it forever.

gleepot346d ago

Sure, ill take a sequel to all of these.
