Rat in a cage: why your mind loves Steam sales

VG247: You have a gigantic library of Steam games you buy in sales then never play. Why would you spend money on something you don’t use? Julie Horup searches for answers.

fastrez4259d ago

Love Steam. I try to play as much as I can.

reznik_zerosum4259d ago

why my wallet/credit card loves steam sale.

zpoc4259d ago

the only time i've bought something i've never played is when i purchased one of the first indie bundles for a specific game or two in the collection and i never got around to trying all the other games it came with... i would never buy a specific game on steam, or anywhere else for that matter, and never play it. what kind of dumbass would do that?!

CommonSense4259d ago (Edited 4259d ago )

I bought Brutal Legend for 5 dollars but it kept getting pushed back on my priority list as new games and other deals came out.

Guess i'm a dumbass..

achmetha4259d ago

my dumbass self bought a ton of games i never got to play because i couldn't afford it / didn't have a PC decent enough to play them, so i bought them. i saved tons of money from the sale and can finally play them...super excited...in the dumbass kind of way

zpoc4259d ago

yeah, if you buy games you buy games you're never going to play you ARE a dumbass. you're not 'saving money' by buying games your not playing, your wasting money.

DeadlyFire4259d ago

There are some that go unplayed that I buy, but I work alot. playing is what retirement is for in my book. Don't ruin my retirement plan. Those sales give me a great value. Only a fool wouldn't buy.

What I want to play I try to play. Bandwith holds me back from downloading em all, but some I have reinstalled 2-3 times with different PCs I have used.

jagstatboy4259d ago

I just bought Skyward Sword for $15, part of a limited sale for Best Buy Reward Zone club members. I don't plan on playing that game anytime soon but I couldn't pass up paying $15 for a $50 game. Even if I never get around to playing it (but right now my kid is playing).

Steam Deck Launch Delayed

According to Valve: “The launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We’re sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates. Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping to customers February 2022.”

Totally understandable given the current climate, but also a big blow for hype for sure. I would not be surprised if there was a further delay down the road, given how unpredictable assembly lines are at the moment.

0rbital71890d ago

suits me cos i cant afford mine till after xmas haha

Teflon02890d ago

Literally what I just said out loud lmao. Mine was Q1 it said already. But this just makes it perfect for me if the earliest is Feb, mine will probably be April or later which is outside all the releases I care about

VenomUK890d ago

It's understandable as all manufacturers are supply constrained of components. It just means that 2022 is going to be SO stacked!

roadkillers890d ago

Why do people always say "current climate"? What are the origins of this highly corporate statement?

ActualWhiteMan890d ago

Current Climate is 45 degrees Fahrenheit where I am HBU? 🤣

Sgt_Slaughter889d ago

Just felt like using it, works for the context of the situation

blacktiger889d ago

ikr, people are brainwashed

blacktiger889d ago

oh lord this guy believes in climate bs

AmUnRa889d ago

And some people dont want to see the truth and are brainwashed and think there is nothing wrong with the climate and dont want to see al the signs that indicate that there is defenitly a change in the climate worldwide.

blacktiger889d ago (Edited 889d ago )

by listening to others is not truth, seeing for yourself is truth. But people are used to so called television and media oh yeah and government but not with their own eyes ever! That's a hard fact. Ice melt, and you all believe it. Volcanoe hit and you all believe it, this has happened even in the Bible so what climate change for 10, 000 years?

Fishy Fingers890d ago

Year on and we still cant easily buy consoles or GPUs. No surpised.

Orchard890d ago

That's a bummer, but only 2 months, and understandable given how unpredictable HW is right now.

phoenixwing890d ago

Disappointing but not really surprised. I'll still be waiting and keep my pre order

Eonjay890d ago

Feburary seems to be the month everything is releasing now.

Si-Fly889d ago

Until the next round of delays 🤣
