5 Reasons Why We Don’t Need A New Console

There’s been a lot of talk about the next generation of consoles. With an expected release of the major consoles within the next couple of years, I’ve got to say that we don’t really need a new console. This may seem to be the old debate between pc and consoles, but let’s take a closer look into why we don’t need a new console.

Seems like a Pro PC article to me.

You need to understand not everyone can afford a gaming rig, that's why we have consoles and the current consoles are at the end of there cycle so we need new ones.

have you seen the current economy the way its going? it can crash anytime soon and then what. the economy needs to get better soon

Wizziokid4260d ago

that's more of a reason not to go toward PC gaming like I said, It's more expensive for the high and with the economy the way it is, it's not the best solution. Console are cheaper and have at least a 7/8 year cycle so once you buy it you don't worry about upgrading for at least 7/8 years. Sure they will be outdated by the end but if we are getting games like Halo 4 and Uncharted 3 at the end of this generation I'm fine with waiting around to the end of the next

Lol Wizziokid, a PC that easily beats a console costs 500usd. Thats not a bank breaking difference. Infact its the price people would pay for a new console.

Games on PC are much cheaper than console. Hence in the long run PC is way cheaper than owning a console. You prefer to game on a console that is something different. However Consoles are more expensive in the long run. Hell they dont even offer BC for previous gen games and require HD remakes which is another added cost.

Every system has its exclusives not just consoles.

Economy...

Doesn't stop all the Apple fanboys from buying new iPads and iPhones every year does it? :P

Wizziokid gone are the days when consoles used to last 7-8 years. Todays consoles generally last 2-3 years before they fail. Then you need to run out and buy a new one.

Lets see, buy a PS3 at launch for 600usd, buy another 3 years later for 300usd, looks like i just paid the price of a high end PC gaming rig, while i am stuck with the same old performance.

Same goes for the Xbox 360. Buy one at launch for 400usd. need buy another 2 years later, all of a sudden i am at 700usd. Oh wait i need to consider the XBL charges looks like i am in high end PC territory.

Consoles arent cheap thats a myth. Back when consoles were released a PC containing a 8800GTX (highest end GPU of that time) could be built for about 900usd. That same GPU till date plays most games in 1080p. Guess what rebuying the same console every 2-3 years will get you? thats right the same decade old performance.

The price point of a newly released console will be extremely high + premium priced games & controllers until they become older like the 7 year ones we have now.

The cost myth was busted a long time ago, so was the one about having to upgrade every 3 months, a PC can match a console cycle easily choosing the right parts , if it doesn't you did something wrong , but that doesn't stop you spending a lot more of course.

However consoles offer a convenient option to those not computer literate or someone who wants to compliment there PC with games not available on the platform and to be honest I find it hard to justify having an Xbox 360 , at least with the PS3 there are more exclusives and i get a blu-ray / media player.

We would already have had new ones if Microsoft and Sony hadn't have taken such heavy losses.

Anyone who has seen Skyrim on an Xbox and then on a PC knows consoles are shit. And the games are only getting more demanding graphically. Console life cycles can not keep pace with technology life cycles. The PC can be upgraded at will, to keep pace with developers constantly evolving limits. The console is a static technology, limiting one to a specific time in history, for the most part. Consoles are effectively becoming useless, especially due to the consistency of Moore's Law.

Moby-Royale4260d ago (Edited 4260d ago )

Yep.... the only purpose they serve is playing those video game things that I've heard so much about.

You cannot be serious. I am not insecure so I don't feel the need to talk down the pc. And why would I? It's a great option for a lot of people.

But for you to sit there and act as if the consoles don't have countless exclusives, as in games that you cannot play without that specific console, is literally ridiculous.

Why *does* one have to be King, and the others peasants?

All colors of the rainbow, and all of that.

I'm not tired of my ps3 yet....

Developers are calling for new consoles.

That should be the only reason that counts. Give consumers a better product? Why would anyone say no to that?

Hicken4260d ago (Edited 4260d ago )

Which developers, though? Are they the ones whose games are at the pinnacle of the craft? Or are they devs who've struggled on one console or another, and seen lower than expected sales, or a general decline in the popularity of their titles?

Edit @ grahf: I agree 100%. Bubbles.

fullymoated4260d ago (Edited 4260d ago )

For the average console gamer, consoles = convenience. Plug headset into controller, sit on couch and have a good time with friends. The age is showing and a lot of people do want that option to upgrade graphically. If you don’t have the money for a new console, then keep playing the old one. If you don’t want consoles released because you are invested in PC-gaming and you want to maintain your current huge graphical edge, then you are immature. I don’t see why people are against giving fellow gamers the option to play on a more powerful machine?

Vote for either Darksiders or Darksiders II at the bottom of the article! 🎮😄

Gaming4Life19811640d ago

Darksiders 1 is the better game but I like part 2 as well.

Daver1640d ago

Darksiders was a lot better than darksiders 2. Even darksiders 3 was better than 2

AK911640d ago

Darksiders 1 is a complete game but it’s obvious with Darksiders 2 they ran out of budget after the Ice world and the game just becomes a poorly paced mess.
