Sleeping Dogs Review (GamersBliss.com)

Sleeping Dogs functions just like a Hollywood action flick. This game was bound to be a ‘sleeper hit’ straight from the get-go. This open world game is a title that would please any fan of Asian culture and action thrillers. Set in the active city of Hong Kong, players take the role of an undercover police officer known as Wei Shen. Wei is faced with a dangerous task of aiding the police in taking out one of the world’s most notorious criminal organizations, the Hong Kong Triads. The player will have the chance to explore the Hong Kong islands in an open world setting. Sleeping Dogs justly captures the true essence of the Hong Kong culture; the island is set up perfectly with flawlessly styled buildings and city streets. The player is forced to feel as if they are in Hong Kong. It is a game that some can find true enjoyment in; a gritty over-the-top action packed game that is sure to keep players on the edge of their seat… What could possibly be wrong with that? However, with all the games glory comes a few draw backs. These draw backs could leave those same players who love that face-paced action, ripping the hair straight out of their head.

Does anyone know where the heck the name 'Sleeping Dogs' came from? I know the whole true crime stuff that went on but to come out with Sleeping Dogs... why? lol

Snookies124272d ago

You haven't heard that quote, "Let sleeping dogs lie"? Basically I guess it's from the game's premise. In which they messed with the "sleeping dog" (or main character). Now they're going to have to deal with him or something similar to that lol.

I really wanted this title to be great and I still may pick it up, but the repetitive gameplay scares me. Although, I do really want to be immersed in a Hong Kong crime drama.

... but Square-Enix announcing theyll be releasing LOTS of DLC for the game means I'll wait for a GOTY, if I'm still interested by then...

pr0digyZA4272d ago

Very much doubt there will be a GOTY edition, like just cause 2 very good game but no boxed version with all the dlc. Plus this games dlc seems to be clothes and themes (and 4 dlc are available free right away).

I think and hope this game can be successful like dead island was when it released to similar reviews. Activision cares only about COD and rest of their bread and butter are spiderman games and bad movie tie in games

I am glad SE gave united front games some time to actually make this a good game.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil9d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai9d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing699d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle9d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal9d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa8d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal8d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

watching the video is better then going through 31 pages of gamingbolt.

Do they explain in the video why there are two numbers 3? Starfield and Tears of the Kingdom?

It's always refreshing to see games embracing the streaming community.

Bloodborne is a game I still restart and play every few months. I would welcome just a re release in 60fps with a visual upgrade. It's a perfect game. If I was king for a day I would include the randomizer mods because then it would be a kind of rogue like and I could play it forever.

gleepot355d ago

Sure, ill take a sequel to all of these.
