If ‘All-Stars Battle Royale’ Is a ‘Rip-Off’ Does That Make It Inherently Bad?

If you want to be anal about it, just about everything in the consumer industry is a "ripoff" of something. So, if that makes a product 'bad,' then everything in our homes is crap. Gaming just happens to be over-saturated with critics.

Wow, I didn't know PS Battle Royale had King-of-the-hill type gameplay or that Smash Bros had PS characters and themes, an MvC-type combo system and KOs by Super moves with no ring-outs.
The design is different. The characters and stages are different. The gameplay mechanics and rules are different.
Sure, it does borrow from Smash Bros. But it has plenty of its own unique implementations to make it its own game. More so than other games in the same genre.

Let's face it. There aren't that many popular games in this particular genre, that's why it may stand out as a rip off to you.
But if 4-player brawlers(which have existed for years) flooded the market the way FPS or JRPGS have, you wouldn't be calling it a rip off because there would be too many to care.
It's a game in the same GENRE of Smash Bros. but not a clone.

Where were you haters when 'Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble' came out? Or 'Digimon Battle Arena . . . Battle Stadium . . . Punch Time Explosion . . . Dream Mix TV . . . Jumpe Super Stars or any of those other brawlers came out?
Exactly. Double standards because it's a Sony exclusive with PS characters.

FYI, this is how games evolve. Similar ideas are taken and expanded on. Game after game.

Personally, I am going to be buying this game based on the beta and footage that I have seen and played myself.

Which aspect is it a Rip-off. Neo Geo combined their fighting frainces. Every FPS is a knock off of Wolfinstien 3D, I know I was there when it happen. Does that make COD or MOH or BF or Mindcraft of Decent or Halo bad?

It should only matter if they aren't try anything new because this reminds of uncharted vs tomb raider both are action-adventure-platformers but differed in that the former is more grounded in reality that the latter.

The name itself is one of the LEAST important parts of the game considering, yet it's one of your MAJOR gripes. And how is the title a rip-off? PlayStation = Sony, All-Stars = description of game, Battle Royale = the subtitle perhaps?

And the characters really just are who they are in a PlayStation themed game. Your attempts to suggest that it shouldn't have Sony characters in there is bewildering since Sony created Superbot Entertainment FOR THIS PURPOSE. Convincing thoughts otherwise is redundant.

What is even more confusing is how you are "shaking your f***ing head" at Parappa the Rapper, yet you seem to have no problem with Olimar, Ness, Robot etc. being in Smash Bros when many of them don't qualify as "fighters" either.

I bet many of us have played SMB and Hideki Kamiya happens to enjoy the game a lot. It takes more than just "rip off" to win the hearts of people who have played SMB. I like Sony, but I also love SMB as much as Nintendo people do.

Let me answer by saying this. Were Tekken and Soul Edge bad because they basically copied Battle Arena Toshinden? Was every game that followed the GTA formula bad? Or the Singstar, Dance Dance Revolution or Parappa formula? No, no they weren't. People during the better days of gaming, not this twisted, corrupted version of it, did not care who was 'copying' or taking cues from who. All people cared was if the game was good or not. That is all. Taking cues from someone else was not a problem. For the love of cake, Superbot admitted they took cues from SSB, people put up videos showing the differences between them, people testify to say it plays differently, people say they are enjoying it, we have seen it has more depth to it then anyone even thought WTF do people want? Will Nintendo give people a cash prize for defending them and calling anything resembling their games a clone? Give it up already. They didn't even invent this genre.

@ Nexgensensation. I am sorry but Jiggly Puff,Pokemon Trainer, Mr Game, Ness and Watch and Ice Climbers qualify as fighters but Fat Princess, Parapper and Sweet Tooth don't. Dislike PASBR all you like but now you are just making up stuff to win an argument. And as for Spyro not being there that is not up to them. Spyro is not their character to use as they please. Your excuses are flimsy at best. Just another bias SSB lover again trying to find reasons to hate on PASBR.
