Netflix testing 'Max' assistant on some PS3 users to improve movie recommendations

It's not available to all, but if you're running the latest version (2.08) of the Netflix app on your PlayStation 3 you may see a prompt for a new item called Netflix Max, spotted by one of our readers. Described by a PR rep we contacted as a "new user experience" the company is testing, the assistant talks to users directly and asks them to rate a few movies on the spot before providing new suggestions. The Noisecast was among the first to try out the new experience and even has a few tips on how to get it for yourself, although it didn't work on our PS3, even after uninstalling and reinstalling the app to get the latest version. The blog mentioned it does more than simply rating movies also, as it sometimes asked users to select movies based on specific criteria, like the starring actors. It can be brought up by pressing the square button on your PS3 controller, although how much you enjoy the gameified experience may vary.

Good, I'm really thinking about switching to Amazon Instant Video, but maybe this will keep me on Netflix.

Stay with netflix a little longer, I have both, Amazon has improved since it first came out, and they do have one of my favorites "TheWarriors", but they're not there yet. Also no Anime on amazon...

Amazon doesn't quite have the catalog but if you are also a member for free shipping then it is worth the $80.

I have both Amazon Instant and Netflix. The two services compliment each other depending on your watching preferences. They cost roughly the same but the free shipping on Amazon is pretty nice when you need it.

nukeitall4282d ago

On one you get free shipping and no tax in many states (which won't last long for many of us), on the other Netlfix has a vastly better catalog and easier interface.

Either thought is a huge bargain though compared to cable TV. Of course the content isn't quite comparable, but I haven't really missed cable.

Also Max is annoying, and more often then not takes you to a movie you've already seen

Smashbro294281d ago

I HATE MAX! I hit ONE button by accident I gotta listen to him chirp on for 5 minutes.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron - Coming Back for a New Generation

Originally launched in 2011, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is coming to Nintendo Switch, so It's time to look back at the original.

Still have my ps3 copies. Bought it at launch and another one when I found it cheap and in perfect condition about 10 years ago. I wouldn’t buy it on Switch but if they made a PS5 version I would. I still have one of my PS3 Fats hooked up so good to go either way.

darthv7218h ago

Id play it again on the switch. I wished my 360 version was bc but this is still a good way to play.

Fallout 3's Reveal Led To Death Threats And Bethesda's First Security Guard

The artist behind Fallout 4’s Deathclaw reveals just how bad things got back when Bethesda took over the series

anast20h ago

People are stupid I get it. No one should feel unsafe,

But I think they need to talk about why they cut so many corners during the development process and why none of their games ever look current. And why they think all of this is okay while they charge full price.

LucasRuinedChildhood19h ago

As much as Bethesda deserve criticism, that's not really relevant to the reveal of Fallout 3 in 2007.

VenomUK17h ago

The default angle Kotaku always go for is to highlight the worst in gaming.

I would’ve focused on the creative.

there is no "but". the hell lol
you dont send death threats, period.
