Are Gamers Contributing to the Destruction of Gaming?

Yes, gamers are ruining games. They speak with their wallets and it says, cod, cod, cod. It leaves a bitter taste how everything has some form of cod. Gamers are sheep, if they dont like something its blown out of proportion. Dont get me started on entitled fanboys. Bragging about a console is embarassing since its a low powered pc (yes both xbox and ps3). Last generation was where it was at. Idiots didnt have much of a voice and all 3 consoles have their certain appeal and games of all kinds. If you had a gamecube nobody would jump your case saying to get a ps2 or an xbox. It was great. Now everybody is an a** with people like tentonsoftube ruining the dignity of other gamers. Now gaming has become truly "mainstream" and is being ruined.

I do think trolls have a negative effect on the industry. They make gamers seem like idiots and not many people in the 'real world' want to associate themselves with that kind of group. You go on a Youtube video from IGN and what do you see more than 90% of the time? "PLAYSTATION IS GAY!!!" .... "F*CK YOU XBOX IS FOR F**GOTS" Nintendo fanboys aren't innocent either. There's a kid Snipedown94 (3DS fanboy) who is on EVERY Playstation video talking trash.

It's the sad truth. This is what 'gaming' has come to.

Please, that's what most gamers are - children, or just man-children alike, so don't be surprised when you see the constant bickering both on the internet and over voice chat when people can sit back anonymously with no recourse and try to bully and intimidate other people to make their tiny selves feel big.

Don't be surprised by the constant, futile, childish internet bickering, it has always happened and as long as people are underdeveloped in their thinking (which will be always) it will continue to happen, so leave it alone. You can't talk maturity into people, and although logic can be learned, not everyone is smart enough to utilize it effectively.

Gamers didn't invent the term "troll". A simple Google search will tell you that modern usage of the word itself dates from 1980s. Other than that, pretty much everything in the article has been said countless times.

Well the Activision blizzard thing is a tricky equation , so long as Actisions logo does not appear on blizzard titles I'm happy so long as the stop rushing things , looking at you D3 , awesome but needs more polish to be a true blizz title.

Bobby Kotick should stick his fat wallet in that department rather than going for quick fast sales like COD and selling vanity items in WoW , but ultimately it comes down to blizz putting the foot down against bobby face and live up to the supposed independent development role in the company they claim to have.

I was about to type that gamers are contributing to the destruction of community but gaming communitys are as large as they've ever been, therefore you just get a lot more unpleasent people using mics.

Social media has ruined gaming if anything has. We didn't have social media last gen or any gen before it. Social media is ruining a lot of things. Not blogs and forums, I'm talking twitter, Facebook and YouTube especially. It's way too easy to express distaste and have it make an immediate impact.

YouTube would be better without ratings, and if you could only post one comment per video and u got banned for profanity or racism etc...YouTube is a cesspool of trolls and the filth of this world. Now we know why YouTube is forcing people to use real identities.

I'm not even gonna get into twitter. That website should shut down. I can see 50 yrs from now people looking back snd saying..holy cow you could just send an instant hateful message to any celeb or sports star under a random identity. People will be saying that one day when the Internet gets laws.

I won't argue that some parts of video game culture are bad, but the same could be said about every other form of social media and entertainment medium. Music, film, and television have just as much negative aspects about them as video games do.

Trolls: I do hate me some trolls. Really, trolls are just people who get their kicks from being annoying, picking on others, and insulting other people with invalid and ludicrous reasons. Yes, trolls are basically cyber bullies. Cyber bullying is a big problem and people who are trolls need to do two things. One, get a life. Seriously, do something positive with your time instead of hurting others and throwing around insults. Two, stop trying to act tough. Words are just words. If you can honestly back up your tough talk, do it in real life and show us what you can do. If not, don't talk about "banging" some guy's mother or "kicking" some guy's ass. As it is, some d-bag might be "banging" your mother and plenty of other people would be more than willing to kick your ass.

Fanboys: I've often talked about fanboys with my friends. We are all in agreement...fanboys are annoying. They are over opinionated, insulting, and just all around bad apples. Fanboys can take personal offense just because you like a certain game or platform. Their arguments are things of schoolyard gossip. Plus, you can really tell their level of maturity when they resort to insults to make it seem like their claims and points are legitimate.

Reviewers: Not really sure where the writer is going with in this example. Is it because some reviewers write negative things about certain games and companies? I don't really understand that one.

Online Voice Chat: I don't like it much either, but it's something new that people need to get mature about. I think it's just the result of the wrong people getting headsets. The ones that tend to get hotheaded or take something too seriously are the ones that make voice chat unbearable. Good thing we have mute options.

I believe that everything about gaming is changing. From the gamers, journalism, developers, publishers, and the creativity.

Everyone is playing their part.

Why does COD have to be brought up every time someone talks about bad gaming. It's a franchise that many GAMERS love and are willing to pay for. Not because they're sheep, it's because they honestly love the game. Just face it that YOUR favorite game isn't getting the media attention and the fans that YOU think it deserves.

With that said, Treyarch/Sledgehammer are not the fault that many other Developers are creating games mimicking that game play.

Now, the creativity level, I believe, is lacking hugely! Yes, gaming is becoming "Mainstream" so the Publishers have to approve of a game that many gamers will buy. This business has skyrocketed since Nintendo and Sega Genesis. There is soooo much money cycling around this industry that people are just making games for a paycheck. You can see this with DLC, half working games on release, stale gameplay, no innovation on future titles, 8 hour gameplay, lackluster online, the death of couch co-op games, etc. I'm sure there are more factors.

This is why I support small development teams because they can a make creative games without a publisher looking over them the whole time telling them what to do.

I'm actually trying to get into game development using the UDK program "Starting next week!". I want to try journalism as well.

If you want to see change in the gaming industry stop complaining about it, get up and change it yourself.

Gaming should be like sports. Where everyone is kind and supportive of each other. Where disagreements are handled with a respectful attitude and never get out of control. Where...wait...oh right.

When passion is involved things get heated, gaming isn't the only culprit here.

Creativity is taking a backseat to business in an industry that has by far the dumbest consumers on the planet. That is what is hurting the games industry.
