It is also puzzling how this article is garnering rapid hits and remarks and can't seem to make it to the top of the page when pieces stating Versus was cancelled flew up there with as little as 16 comments.

Just thought I'd drop the link to the old article in here, so people can click the little plus sign underneath "Read Full Story" and give them a "WTF" story rating and a "No" site rating. Their credibility deserves to be knocked down a peg or two because of this.

We need to start holding sites like Kotaku accountable for their out-of-control pseudo-journalistic practices, even if it only pertains to this site. N4G most likely accounts for a great deal of their popularity, relatively speaking, so be sure to follow up on them when they do a bad job. Don't assume someone else will, user interaction and opinion is what drives this site.

This is why I officially lost faith in online publications; Put out a rumor to get everyone worked up, someone comes out with an official word, then hide in a corner again till something else is thought up.

Kotaku got what they wanted; publicity, even if its negative, they still got it. Now they'll have some "I'm sorry" story made up, post it, and after a while the die hard Kotaku fans will forgive them and move on. Honestly I say after this fiasco ban their site 100%, and never EVER quote anything from them again.

OT - I actually had people go off about "I hate SE and I hate how they cancelled the game." I told everyone the same thing; "I'm waiting on official word from SE first, a rumor like this is way too big to ignore." Sure enough, SE comes out and says "We still got it."

Edit - I was just thinking, Kotaku did the entire rumor just to get SE to still confirm Vs13 is still being worked on, we don't like their method of how, but they at least got SE to still say "Yes it's still here and being worked on." However, it still doesn't excuse them from their unprofessional attitude and delivery.

The sad thing is that it's not just kotaku (this doesn't excuse their behavior and they should be made an example of). This is just another example of gaming "journalism" in general.

Then, after the fact you find these "journalists" (turd burglars) in various comment sections tryin' to hide behind the "It can't be wrong. It's an opinion" excuse. IGN tried to pass it off as a fact and got everyone more worked up. And now they are trying to shift the blame back at Kotaku while also bashing the game for no reason. IGN is a real piece of work. I've always, ALWAYS had faith in this game. My comment history is full of ridiculously lengthy responses explaining why it's not vapourware and why it has the potential to be such an incredible game. And this comment from Wada confirms it. An epic world map, airships, dungeons, summon hunting, multiple battle system approaches due to real time, gameplay dynamics, day/night cycle, vehicles, interactive event scenes, dark story with interesting characters, and incredible "photo realistic" graphics from Luminous. Suck on it fanboys and unbelievers. Versus XIII will be epic!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII may become the next Duke Nukem Forever and eventually get launched when the developers get around to doing it.

XII took 5 years to develop (2001-2006) while XIII took 6 (2004-2010).
I think the only reason why it seems vsXIII is taking forever is because they made the mistake of announcing it before they had really started working on it.

Yeah, that was one problem. The delay in versus is an extention of the delay in XIII. Nomura and his team were pulled off VS to work on XIII.

It should be noted that one reason XIII took so long was because development for it started on the PS2. They basically had to scrap everything and restart on the PS3.

Not many remember this, but FF IX wasn’t a main final fantasy title during its early development, and it wasn’t until later that it was given a number because Square saw it deserved a numeral.

I think Versus will pull the same thing and be named FF XV

Also: Agito XIII turned into type 0, so I think the whole XIII brand will stick with that particular timeline.

Yes but if Versus became XV, it'd be the first time more than one numbered game featured the same sort of universe. Type-0 is a spin off of the XIII universe, sort of like Tactics and Vagrant Story are to XII (I know they came before it but you know what I mean).

My point is I think Versus should stay Versus. A numbered FF game has to be unique alongside all the other numbered games for me.

Wait for official response before blowing steam in wrong direction. Kotaku has been known for years now to continue spreading website hits with any rumor possible.

Not only that, I'm was dissapointed to read Eurogamer amongst other respectable websites actually feeding the false rumored info and acting on it on their website as well like it's a fact...
Either way, it's good Vs XIII is shapping out great. It's been a long time. Can't wait to see more of the game.

Crisis Core for the PSP was like an action rpg from the final fantasy 7 universe. I hope Versus13 is going to be the same style of battle system. More action oriented like Crisis Core and less menus while fighting.
