A translation from Yoichi Wada's Twitter:

“It seems someone is spreading a false rumor about Versus being canceled. Heh, just a few moments ago a regularity meeting for Versus ended. If you were to see the city [in the game] presented today, you’d wouldn’t be able to stand from surprise, lol.”

Holy Crap, he mentions an epic city that was presented today in Versus XIII. This is going be awesome!

Whitefeather4288d ago

Ye sounds good, glad to finally get even one tiny detail.

blitz06234288d ago (Edited 4288d ago )

Wow Kotaku was wrong, who would have thought!

Lucretia4288d ago

only idiots and square haters thought it was canceled.

people are so gullible

xursz4288d ago

I swear on the life of my cat sitting next to me, I will NEVER fall for another one of Kotaku's "credible" rumors ever again. What a dumb joke of a site they are.

torchic4288d ago

there was no way that this game could've been cancelled. I know soooo many people who bought PS3s just so they can play Versus XIII, me included.

I could go on as to why the game would never be cancelled, but above all Square knows there's a lot of public interest in this game. it'll sell like hotcakes even on one platform.

can't wait to see it at TGS

Dir_en_grey4287d ago

There you go, F-ing Kotaku... wish people just don't post their crap. If it's not made up, they steal from other sites anyway.

blackbeld4287d ago

Have to buy this game!

Ban Kotaku for ever!

waltyftm4287d ago

Great stuff, it just goes to show that you cant trust rumors.

morganfell4287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

Every single website that rushed to shove their self serving story of the cancellation in our faces needs to be slapped in the most public manner. Beginning with Kotaku and that idiot Brian Ashcraft to hardrest.co.uk with that guy Fern running around in the comments telling everyone he is just trying to promote his website, all should be ashamed.

Everyone of them were responsible for damaging the game and possibly the company. You people do not even deserve to call yourself journalists. As I wrote here:

http://n4g.com/news/1042297...

"If it turns out FF XIII isn't cancelled it will be amazing to watch the irresponsible press begin their "I was only reporting news" dodge.

No you ignorant jerkwaters, you were propagating a rumor that if not true could still harm a company's financials and all because of your jump the gun idiocy.

It will also reconfirm (for the zillionth time) the press is the outright enemy of real gamers and they do more harm to gaming than any other entity."

The gamers that said, "That's it screw SE", should also hang their heads and go crawl in a hole. Like sheep you ran off following an unsubstantiated article from Kotaku. KOTAKU! Common sense really isn't.

There was a time in the 90s when game publications and early sites were actually run by gamers instead of egocentric adolescents more interested in self promotion than the games themselves.

Here is the first list of those so desperate for attention they were willing to damage our favorite hobby for a few webclicks:

http://n4g.com/news/1042297...

http://n4g.com/news/1043412...

http://n4g.com/news/1042844...

http://n4g.com/news/1042784...

http://n4g.com/news/1043145...

These are just a start. I for one do not intend to forget which sites like these continually provide a disservice to the gamer, even damaging the community itself.

Gamers themselves have to start policing gaming and teaching these sites that idiotic reporting which harms our hobby will be met with harsh responses and punishment. Until that day these infantile crap articles and this accompanying, blatant, egotistical chest beating will continue.

It is also puzzling how this article is garnering rapid hits and remarks and can't seem to make it to the top of the page when pieces stating Versus was cancelled flew up there with as little as 16 comments.

Hey all

http://n4g.com/news/1042297...

Just thought I'd drop the link to the old article in here, so people can click the little plus sign underneath "Read Full Story" and give them a "WTF" story rating and a "No" site rating. Their credibility deserves to be knocked down a peg or two because of this.

We need to start holding sites like Kotaku accountable for their out-of-control pseudo-journalistic practices, even if it only pertains to this site. N4G most likely accounts for a great deal of their popularity, relatively speaking, so be sure to follow up on them when they do a bad job. Don't assume someone else will, user interaction and opinion is what drives this site.

4287d ago
Tetsujin4287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

This is why I officially lost faith in online publications; Put out a rumor to get everyone worked up, someone comes out with an official word, then hide in a corner again till something else is thought up.

Kotaku got what they wanted; publicity, even if its negative, they still got it. Now they'll have some "I'm sorry" story made up, post it, and after a while the die hard Kotaku fans will forgive them and move on. Honestly I say after this fiasco ban their site 100%, and never EVER quote anything from them again.

OT - I actually had people go off about "I hate SE and I hate how they cancelled the game." I told everyone the same thing; "I'm waiting on official word from SE first, a rumor like this is way too big to ignore." Sure enough, SE comes out and says "We still got it."

Edit - I was just thinking, Kotaku did the entire rumor just to get SE to still confirm Vs13 is still being worked on, we don't like their method of how, but they at least got SE to still say "Yes it's still here and being worked on." However, it still doesn't excuse them from their unprofessional attitude and delivery.

LoVeRSaMa4287d ago

Where is this game, I have been waiting for years..

Irishguy954287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

Well, as I thought, this rumor was basically an impossible one.

Also Andree, we got a gameplay trailer and many random comments on it since last year, all of them saying the production was going smoothly and at Full speed now

LostDjinn4287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

Who here trusted kotaku anyway? I'm being serious. How many fishy articles have they run over the years?

The sad thing is that it's not just kotaku (this doesn't excuse their behavior and they should be made an example of). This is just another example of gaming "journalism" in general.

How many times have you (yes you!) seen sites write baseless, biased, sensationalist smears? It's a lot wouldn't you agree? Then, after the fact you find these "journalists" (turd burglars) in various comment sections tryin' to hide behind the "It can't be wrong. It's an opinion" excuse. "It's an opinion" has become the "get out of jail free" card for retard writers. Here's something many don't seem to grasp: You can and should be held accountable for an opinion. If you're not willing to stand by your opinion then you've just invalidated it (and that's not an opinion).

Another one is sites saying that the (anonymous) source for the story was wrong and the site in question isn't responsible for the information. News flash you knuckle draggers. The burden of proof lies with you. You are responsible for the stories your site runs.

So where to from here? Well if we don't hold the people who lie to/mislead us responsible things will never change. You work can out the rest.

Edit: I know it's bad form to stick it to cold threads but I could't let this one through. Sorry.

mafiahajeri4287d ago

Just like I said people were spreading rumors to get a status update or progress update and damn did it work!!

Crystallis4287d ago

Then Kotaku needs to be ban from this website.

ThanatosDMC4287d ago

I'm betting it's going to the 360. It's taking way too long.

PshycoNinja4287d ago

At least Kotaku reported it as a "rumor".

IGN tried to pass it off as a fact and got everyone more worked up. And now they are trying to shift the blame back at Kotaku while also bashing the game for no reason. IGN is a real piece of work. Instead of hiring people like Greg Millar and the 360 fan Casey Lynch as EIC, they should hire some real professionals.

I swear games journalism has gone completely down the drain this gen. Media thinking they know better than everyone else and thinking their opinions are fact. That's why I just stick here and Neogaf. Who needs the media these days.

Marz4287d ago

i bet they made up this rumor just so they could pull a reaction from square enix and hear more about this game...

Patriots_Pride4287d ago

Well this is what happens when you leave your fanbase out in the cold with not one detail about the game.

Show your customers who will spend hard earn money some respect and at least address them once in a while.

Same goes for you R*, Sony, Valve.

JoySticksFTW4287d ago

"Hey everyone,

No one is more frustrated by a story being wrong on Kotaku than those of us who work at Kotaku. There's no long-term positive for us if we present a long story cited to anonymous sources that then is refuted by the CEO of the company whose game we wrote about.

I'm frustrated that, after giving Square-Enix three days to comment, they couldn't provide an answer as clear as the one their CEO did on Twitter today. If we thought our sources had burned us and lied to us, we just might out them, but that's not the case here. What is the case is that this situation always was murky and the details of our story explain that. Some questions about the condition and status of this game remain, obviously. For all we know, it still has been transformed into something other than what was initially announced.

At the end of the day, of course, we want you to be able to read a Kotaku story and trust that the reporting is accurate. We want any rumor we run to turn out to be true. In this case we tried for several days to get better details and official confirmation. We didn't start this from nothing. We started this from some talk from sources who have an inside track. We will continue to pursue these kinds of stories.

If you see doubt expressed within one of our rumor stories, then you can assume the story may turn out to be off in some way. It is on us to be clear about how things might be wrong. And, as in some other anonymously-sourced stories (as in most of our next-gen hardware stories), the lack of many or any qualifications should signal to you about how much more confident we are in those.

We won't always get everything right. But we will continue to be clear as can be about what we know and what we don't know.

Thanks for keeping up with our site and taking the work we do seriously."

I still don't trust them.

DigitalRaptor4287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

I've always, ALWAYS had faith in this game. My comment history is full of ridiculously lengthy responses explaining why it's not vapourware and why it has the potential to be such an incredible game. And this comment from Wada confirms it. An epic world map, airships, dungeons, summon hunting, multiple battle system approaches due to real time, gameplay dynamics, day/night cycle, vehicles, interactive event scenes, dark story with interesting characters, and incredible "photo realistic" graphics from Luminous. Suck on it fanboys and unbelievers. Versus XIII will be epic!

One more thing... TGS baby!!

gaffyh4287d ago

@above - So the main gist of that "apology" is that they were looking for confirmation on the existence of Versus, which Square Enix didn't give. If they had replied, Kotaku would have run a story like "Square Enix Confirms FF Versus XIII Still Alive". But because they didn't, they made up some bullshit rumor, and posted it because they took the lack of a reply as confirmation.

Kotaku are even more idiotic than I first thought.

Diver4287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

holy crap over what stephen totilo wrote at gaf.

"in 3 days square didn't jump to when we snapped our fingers. they didn't start dancing when we said to. a million dollar company didn't obey when some smart ass punk published a fake article"

that's the gist of it.

dear mr totilo take a big swig from the damn reality cup you moron. you are a trash journo punk with 500 pounds of arrogance and 6 ounce brain. shut up already. thanks to you squares stock actually dropped right after your idiotic website published their hit hungry lying article.

you ruin games you don't make them. you and your website don't make games better you crap on the community. get off your damn high horse and suck up some reality. stop walking around like your taking a dump at kotaku means publishers should answer your beck and call. what a arrogant turd.

no one owes you or the trash from kotaku anything. you get what you earn an all you deserve is a swift kick in the ass. who the hell do you think you are? craptaku has been a cancker sore on gamings butt for a long time. its high time someone let some air out of kotakus fat ego.

You mean Kotaku were talking out of their collective asses?

But they've always struck me as the very model of journalistic integrity? This development is nothing if not shocking.

Whitefeather4288d ago

Haha good one. I used to frequent their website until I realized what you pointed out they'll promote anyone who gives them the money.

Ken224288d ago

Thank you for reporting this now i can tell my friend it was a lie cuz he majorly flipped out when he read about this being cancelled >_<.

silkrevolver4287d ago

Kotaku is the Fox News/MSNBC of videogame journalism. They might have a SLIGHT bias towards the xbox or whatever, but I’m talking more about the complete lack of integrity and lies for hits.

For shame.

DaThreats4288d ago

Good
Make my AAA RPG Playstation Exclusive
Like the good old days

Whitefeather4288d ago

I hope it's still exclusive, knowing SE they probably finished the PS3 version last year and delayed it to finish the 360/WiiU port. I doubt that though.

torchic4288d ago

I don't mind a Wii U port, it's the 360 ports that dumb the game down for PS3.

vuzuki4287d ago

If the WiiU is a way for them to invest extra into it, why not. But please, don't try to fit Versus on tiny DVDs...

_-EDMIX-_4287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

Agreed! I mean i don't mind a Wii U port. It has more to do with what will happen to FFXIII Versus as a game more then anything. If its on 360's tiny ass DVD9, its going to be gimped. No airships or world maps.

If its on Wii U, its still has a crap load of space to work with. Last i heard 25gigs (maybe 50 with a second layer, not really sure)

I don't hate ports, I just hate when a game is gimped ie GTAIV or FFXIII to be multiplatform. (or Alan Wake too! Remember what it was in 2006....AN OPEN WORLD GAME then its exclusive on 360 and its all of a sudden not....i wonder why lol, mind you i called this would happen before it did knowing about DVD9 and it happened)

Less is never good for any game no matter what system. Its like, i wish GTAIV wasn't gimped, but i wish everyone to still play it....,BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE WHOLE DAMN GAME! So lets not have GTAIV with a bigger city then GTASA and many features, lets have a gimped on to everyone can play crap....

WeskerChildReborned4288d ago

This might be the first FF i'll be buying in years.

clrlite4288d ago (Edited 4288d ago )

Yes! I already wrote SE off a while ago, but IF the quality and integrity of this game are exceptional, I may actually buy it.

Also, I want it to be a PS3 exclusive like the said it would be, sorry.

Btw: What's going on with The Last Guardian, anyone?

LNDCalling4287d ago

@clearelite 'The Last Guardian' was confirmed as still being in development a couple of days by Sony's Worldwide Studio President: Shuhei Yoshida.

And thank god, as there is another game I can't wait to get my hands on!

Jazz41084287d ago (Edited 4287d ago )

@Dathreats So you want it turnedbase and on multiple discs? Go play Lost oddesey as its made by Final Fantasys creators. You can't get any closer then that. As far as Kotaku goes this is sinking to a new low for them. I know they reported it as a rumor but they knew a game that big would blow up in there face. Let's see if and when it comes out before I bash Kotaku more but they need to learn when and what is appropriate.

Xperia_ion4288d ago

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

TheColbertinator134d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno134d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.
