The Amazing Spider-Man, More Than Amazing! ( PushStartSelect Review)

PushStartSelect: "After Wal-Mart screwed up my order and hearing some negative feedback for the game, I started to strongly think if I should still be buying The Amazing Spider-Man. Well we did, and all I have to say is that if you are a Spider-Man fan (like myself) you should be buying this game, period, let alone seeing the movie. I’m a big Spider-Man fan, I’ve owned every single Spider-Man game that released this generation and continue to buy the comics. We wanted open worlds in previous games, and we now got it. Combine that with a sleek combat system, and a good story similar to past title, and you have a game that’s hard to pass up because it is all coming together so well. I once said a previous Spider-Man game was going to challenge Batman for the ultimate Comic Book title, The Amazing Spider-Man comes really dang close."

Although i like Batman AC better, this game is an awesome and probably the best spiderman game for this generation.

MySwordIsHeavenly4304d ago

Agreed.

I think the only problem I had was that reviewers treated the combat system like a brand new thing for the Spider-man games. Web of Shadows had pretty much the same combat system...and, I would argue, better web-slinging mechanics. I wish I could move the camera slightly further away from Spider-man. It's too close to him. :/

WeskerChildReborned4304d ago

Yea i actually liked Web of Shadows but i think Amazing Spiderman was a good attempt at a Spidey game this gen. I've completed the game 100% and now i'm playing on super hero difficulty to get a platinum.

clarkjudo4304d ago

The combat follows some kind of Mexican wrestling style. Having the camera where it is makes it a better ride of feeling the sense of loosing control. But I heard this before of having the camera a little bit further away. Maybe a choice selection in the main menu? Non the less, GREAT game for giving Spidey a better placement in the super hero franchise.

I see you comment on most of these Spider-man reviews, so I think you're the man to ask: How many hours of gameplay would you estimate you've spent so far playing? Including replaying it on that higher difficulty.

I'm the guy in God of War who walks everywhere to drag it out. So playtime is very important to me. Haha

WeskerChildReborned4304d ago

I've spent some time. The story for me took probably about a few hours but their's alot to do other than the story like finding all 700 comic book pages. Idk exactly how much hours i spent on the story but yea the game is good but if you're not sure, you should rent it or borrow it from a friend if you can.

I mixed up the playthrough a bit. I played around the city with side missions, petty crimes, car chases, extra and collecting comic book pages on the way before going to my objective. I stretched it out to 15 hours or so. Currently, now that the story is finished. There is now still more things needed to be done in the city. And yes, then there is the pre-order DLC.

I got most of my suits just after receiving a camera (look on Youtube). So I could play with different suits for curtain environments that fit them well. It to kept things fresh besides all of the activity between objectives.

You want to stretch this game out? ... Beenox made it possible to do so.:)

Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Ultimate Spider-Man use to be my favorite until Insomniac games took over.

Inverno153d ago

I'd still choose Ultimate above all other games, followed by Shattered Dimensions

Abnor_Mal153d ago (Edited 153d ago )

My favorite and still champion Spiderman PS2, followed by Marvels Spiderman2, then Miles Morales, followed by Marvels Spiderman, and finally Ultimate Spiderman.

I need to drag out my PS3 and try Web of Shadows, owned the game for years and years and never played.

Shout out to cultured vultures for NOT making this 40 separate pages.

Spider-Man (2000), Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions were all so good! I have fond memories playing them.

2600 Spider-man was the first I ever played. So many memories of that and Superman game. I didn't play another SM game until the Sega CD Spider-man vs the Kingpin

I guess 6 people don't believe you, lol

Spider-Man 2018 (Insomniac’s game) is the absolute worst…I’m kidding, I’m kidding. The absolute BEST Spider-Man games to date!

1. Spider-Man: Miles Morales “ “Insomniac”
2. Marvels Spider-Man 2018 “Insomniac”
3. Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions.
4 Spider-Man 2.
5 Spider-Man (I forget the name) but I played it when I was about 10 or so, back in school. I thought it was the coolest game (which was a side scroller) and believe it or not, I felt like I was playing Spider-Man lol. If only I knew what the future would hold for technology, the talent of artists in these studios in the future, my eyes and brain would melt outta my head haha.

Ultimate Spiderman is definitely #3 on my list and a gem of the PS2/XB/GC era imo.

I can see an argument to flip 1 and 2 but I think the improvements Insomniac made to Miles Morales does technically put it a step above the original. Because it was Miles it was something refreshingly different too.

ClayRules2012662d ago

Nice! I’m glad you enjoyed Ultimate Spider-Man. I forgot about that one. That was a good one!

Yeah, I can see that argument to clip 1 and 2 as well but the improvements added in Miles Morales for me definitely put it above the original, which is why I put it as my #1. I absolutely love both tho!

ZeekQuattro663d ago

The first one I played was on the Game Gear called Spider-man vs the Kingpin. Definitely one of the worst Spider-Man games but I loved it as a kid. My favorite Spider-Man games include Spider-Man PS1/64, Maximum Carnage, Web Of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, ASM 1 and the two Sony recent Sony exclusive ones. Edge of Time and ASM 2 get honorable mentions because though I did enjoy them both felt like step back from the previous titles.

gunnerforlife663d ago

Still hold amazing memories of spiderman 2! What a game!

SavageFlamingo663d ago

They absolutely nailed the physics in that game. No game has ever come close.

Silly gameAr663d ago (Edited 663d ago )

Spider-Man The Movie, the game will probably be my favorite SP game ever, with the nostalgia goggles on. I doubt it would hold up at all today. Shattered Dimensions was great too.

5 underrated Superhero games you may have missed

Lewis writes: "With Square Enix presenting gameplay of the new Avengers game at E3 2019 and with the release of Sony’s Spider-man on PS4 last year it is fair to say we may be heading into a new golden age of Superhero games on consoles. While watching the videos that were released of the new title, I began thinking about Superhero games that I had enjoyed over the last 10 years since Arkham Asylum’s release. I remembered there were a number of them that surprised me with how good they actually were and after looking online and speaking to friends discovered they had little fanfare, or people simply wrote them off for being movie tie-ins despite some being reviewed well.
I wanted to speak to you all about just a handful of these titles so that they may get some of the recognition they deserve, but also so you can enjoy some hidden gems of the genre."
