GamesIndustry International happy to present you with another exclusive installment in our "Role-Playing" feature series, which tasks top industry journalists and pundits with filling the large shoes of bigwigs at major gaming companies. Previously, we looked at newly minted Microsoft man Phil Harrison and Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata. This time, we're putting a magnifying glass to Sony head Kaz Hirai, particularly with the $380 million acquisition of cloud gaming firm Gaikai at top of mind.
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Genuine Enabling Technology was seeking damages, claiming the tech allowing PlayStation consoles and controllers to communicate infringes its rights.
Sounds like patent trolling they tried the same thing against Nintendo with the same pattern.
Motion and control input traversing over higher and lower frequencies seperate from each other allowing the controller to do both
So to recoup the money Genuine is going to take on Nintendo or Microsoft next. I hate patent lawyers they are some of the worst bottom feeders out there.
You need more than PlayStation to get Sony out of trouble since the gaming competition is fierce and tough.
They need change. They have stayed complacent as others have grown and adapted. Don't be a RIM . See the change and execute.
You need more than a streaming service to get people to buy a Sony TV anymore or any Sony product out of the PlayStation brand. Sony leaves a bad taste in peoples mouth now.
But I think they can do, now will they well that we will see but if they aren't fit to compete they will just wither away slowly just the truth of business.
I didn't know I would upset people this much talking about a company. If I have offended you in anyway I apologize as I know that Sony means very much to you guys. /s
Give me a break.
Off-topic: A first party PS3 rpg would be nice
Jbsleek, I agree with you, so many times I speak about Sony as a company, and I guess it means I hate the games, or the entertainment that Sony gives me. People blindly love Sony as a company. They love the ps3 and dislike/ hate anyone who talks about anything that could be attached to Playstation in ANY way. I've just learned that things are just going to be that way.
And Sony does leave a bad taste in your mouth.... If you in anyway invested in them.
Gotta love the shills like JBSleek trying to act like the neutral man when he clearly wears his fanboyism on his sleeve.
