Back with the gamecube and other systems, consoles felt so much easier to just plug and play, but now consoles are trying to emulate PC styles while still operating under some false idea of keeping a gated console ecosystem.

I completely agree. It's so much easier to just play a game on a console as opposed to a PC. Take note that I'm upgrading my PC this month. I'm a PC gamer as well as a console gamer, and I still stand by my statement.

In terms of technology, obviously it is true because a PC has a set amount of components, all of which are found in consoles. In terms of games though, it is not the case that Xbox 360 and PS3 are crap PCs, because there are a lot of games you can't get on PC.

and PC's shooters are full of hacks, mods and glitchers which make it a bad experience online imo. unless they fixed this.

consoles are more tied together as far as a fun community goes, unless they have something like Xbox live that i am unaware of where you can see all of your friends and what games they are playing and jump in and join different games together in a snap of a finger etc.

PC gaming is just too much of a hassle. I don't like searching the web for drivers and such. I also like to play lying on my bed on my 50inch plasma with the gaming headphones on. I know a PC can be made to play on a tv but it's still a hassle trying to find a surface for your keyboard and mouse to sit on, and it usually takes awy from the comfort level. I could careless about PC's being able to squeeze out a little better performance. I'm fine with my "crappy" console.

Thing is, the exclusives are more than "a handful."

Now I won't get into a rant about a handful being subjective, but time and time again passion (cough..fanboyism..cough) leads to parties on both camps listing EVERY exclusive in a console's library.

That being said, there's enough proof in that pudding for consoles being a consumer's choice.

Most people own a PC or a laptop...its not like the hardware is obsolete. But not everyone 'games' on them. Are the graphical specs on PC's built for gaming more powerful? Sure. But the cost/time/money convenience of consoles is undeniable.

Hence why they are the primary choice for gamers. For me...console (for gaming) all the way.

Do consoles have a HDD or SSD? If its a HDD then its no different than on PC. Mine are quite a few years old and still chugging along. If my drive crashes I'll just go out and get another and plug it in, problem solved. I might even get an SSD.

Most mods are easy to install. Games like Skyrim have a mod manager or use the Steam Workshop.

As far as problems are concerned, I personally have had very few issues. They were related to copy protection and DRM, which is why I chose to use Steam exclusively. This is only my experience, but I have never had issues with my games on Steam.

I'm not arguing the superiority of the PC as far as ease of use, just pointing out flaws in a couple arguments. For me PCs can be more difficult at times. But fixing those problems can be far easier and much faster than some think. With just basic computer knowledge you can build a PC. As far as software issues are concerned, the internet is all you need.

PCs can be more complicated, but if that's the price for an open platform, I gladly pay it.

It's not necessarily an oversight rather than focusing on his points. Yes, every console has its own identity with its exclusives; but who can't figure that out on their own already? Each has their own "mascots" that consumers know is specifically for that system to begin with.

I personally think that by strictly focusing on the major cons that been with PC gaming for quite some time and how some of those problems mirror what we're seeing on this gen consoles his argument has less "unnecessary fluff."

Consoles are better than PC's to the average game consumer, because they don't have to do much to play the games they love. Consoles are plug and play machines.

Desktops are being phased out for laptops and now tablets, and many of the desktops in homes, are workstations or personal computer for the entire family, so gaming isn't it's primary use.

Also with consoles you just stick the game in for you machine, and you're ready to play (in most cases). With PC games it's not always so simple. Sometimes you have to install the game, or check to make sure your settings are the best for you computer, and if you want an optimal experience then you may have to upgrade you GPU and RAM. And even though all of those things are easy for any person with a bit of tech knowledge, together it's too much for the average consumer.

People don't buy consoles to use them as PCs. Everyone already has a PC, so they get a console for pure gaming purposes.

PC gamers are not going to convince console gamers of anything and vice-versa.

Consoles still rule three things mostly.

1) Ease of use - even for digital distribution games: ever tried downloading and playing a game on steam, waiting for it to download only so that a three step installation process of DirectX,DotNet,SomeOtherCrap will take forever? And then the game will try to auto-set the graphics to the wrong resolution, crashing on an error message that you'll have to google only to realize that your ATI/Nvidia drivers are out of date?
Sure, consoles are also getting more cumbersome with mandatory installs, updates and whatnot. But the story above is the PC experience for you - and that is a huge disadvantage for people who want a relatively hassle-free experience.

2) Ease of development: You have to pay royalties to Ms/Sony/Nintendo but you get something in return: a fixe hardware that will guarantee your game will work exactly the same on every unit sold. Good luck having that on the PC, with so much variance in hardware configuration that you can't really code efficiently or rely on any machine having enough free memory because everything goes through the OS, you need to downscale graphics and cater to the lowest common denominator or otherwise you risk of loosing some of the customer base (mostly laptop owners who probably constitute half of the PC market today), and QA becomes a nightmare since you have to check your game on thousands of different hardware configurations.

3) Leveled playing field. Multiplayer is just better on consoles because you know that people are using the same hardware and peripherals: no people who pay more for 200DPI mouse or keyboards with auto-programed shortcuts will get an unfair advantage. It's harder to hack console games and run unverified code with aimbots, wallhacks and what not.
It's not perfect of course, with glitches still being abused like hell until the developers sort them out. But it's much better than the state of play on the PC, and the risk of getting your entire console and profile banned forever (especially on the X360 where online still costs money) is a serious turnoff for most of the cheaters.

That's about it (there's also the issue with developers sometimes butchering the PC version and cutting features like offline co-op or not supporting gamepads of messing up the aspect ratio - but that's entirely they're fault). But these main points (outside a handful of exclusive games) are very important from both players and developers perspectives.

It's a choice, like many other console gamers make for various reasons.

3. Much more of a hassle? No, I'll have to disagree with you there. people REALLY like to exaggerate the difficulty of PCs. If you can install a game on your PS3 or whatever, know that it isn't really any harder to do that on PC.

"But what about all of the driver problems!" Haha, your drivers either automatically update or they come up and inform you that there's a new update and that you should download. It really isn't hard to update your drivers.

"But I like sitting on my couch, it's more comfortable!" As said in the video, you can hook up your PC to your TV and play games in 1080p rather than 720p.

"The controller is more comfortable." Well, if people didn't figure out that they could plug their controllers into the PC for this long, they have problems.

"What about all of those problems that come with the PC, like FOV issues and mouse acceleration?" Most of the time, you can very quickly and easily look for an FOV line in the game's config file. If not, there are a growing number of programs (Flawless Widescreen, for instance) that fix the FOV problems by giving you a slider that goes to about 110, among other options. For mouse acceleration or mouse smoothing problems that can't be resolved through a config file, there's almost always someone who's released a fix for that.

Look, if I knew how to make my PC work nearly any game when I was 12 (I'm 15 now) there's no reason in the world that adults can't do the same. 10 seconds in Google will solve most of the problems that you couldn't figure out already. Trust me, PC gaming really isn't much of a hassle at all.

PC games and PC gaming is actually cheaper than console games and gaming in the short run.
Games on consoles coats anywhere from $5-$20 more for the same exact title.
Moreover that same game on the PC runs smoother, looks better and has in may cases community mods for said game all free.
If you add up all the games you have bought on your console that are also on the PC, that alone cost you more $$$ depending on how many games you buy a year.

PC has and continues to get more exclusive games than most current consoles combined, whether they're retail, downloadable and/or indies. And when you factor emulators into what a PC can run, that's hundreds of thousands of games from previous generations. Don't talk nonsense.

Plus, PCs are more expensive if you choose to have a really high-end rig... buying an Xbox 360 and paying for Live over a number of years can probably be just as expensive if you only have a decent setup. But if you have a job and can afford it and actually see the benefits, you would appreciate the difference.

Not everyone can afford a top notch pc so consoles are convenient for most. I don't knock pc gamers, but I can care less about them. Developers know the money is with consoles. Which is why a lot of top pc games are coming over to consoles.

By saying "screw pc gaming" you're not really opening yourself up to judge things fairly at all.

From that statement I can tell you've never had or played long enough on a high-performance PC. The difference is mind blowing, especially when you realise that the experience is consistent across so many types of game experiences. I've only just discovered how epic it can be myself recently. So before you bash PC gaming for being this elite, expensive, inconvenient past time - actually look into it first and appreciate why people spend their money this way.

PC gaming has been becoming more niche for years but to say that it's stupid because it's not where the money is at is kinda sad. It's like saying "Valkyria Chronicles is not worth my time and money cause it's niche".

I remember there was an article that mentioned price. I think it was IGN according to my own guessing, it is more or less correct.

PC is significantly cheaper than consoles. You don't realize that because you still believe that PCs are $6000. A decent gaming PC that can play everything can go for around $800 (PC and monitor). A console and TV costs ~$1300. Not to mention Steam sales.
You own a PC of your own. Upgrading isn't that much of a cost and believe me, it's very convenient to have a gaming PC because your PC, in general, just gets a huge performance boost.
(People also say you have to upgrade all the time to keep your PC running the new games. That's not the case. I"m still running a dual core with 3GB DDR2 RAM. I barely got rid of my 8800)

exactly...for one personal computer's are not that old of a technology, Hell when i was in school Apple IIE's were really the only way you had access to the personal Computer, unless you were rich, or had access to Crey's from the the university or freaking GOVT. Armed forces base's.

Also, PC can most definitely run anything that the consoles can put out. Hell, you can buy the random fifty dollar graphics card, throw it into any stock pc with a decent processor, and you have something that rivals (at least) what the current consoles can do. Last gen tech? Check out Diablo 2 and compare it with 3. The difference might not be obvious, but its huge. Its definitely current gen with all the effects. And since when did tech start to matter so much? I thought it was all about gameplay, and love it or hate it, but Diablo 3 has some good addictive gameplay. That's what matters the most right? Plus there is Dota 2, and the new Counter Strike. Also check out planetside 2. Too many good looking games coming out for the PC. Maybe you haven't heard of them cause they won't grace the consoles, but yes, they're good

No doubt PC's have the muscle and no doubt the PS3 and 360 are in a sense lowerlevel PC's BUT.. the interface and barrier to entry on a console is 100% better than that of the PC when it comes to gaming. PC gaming is getting better but still there is no need to update drivers, search for a support patch for your particular graphics card... The tinkering bits of PC gaming is great for those that want/like to do it...but for those that just want to put a disc in and play... console gaming works perfectly fine.

Accessibility and convenience will always be a plus for consoles over PC. Not everyone can run a high-end game and have it perform like it was meant to. MS and Sony also do a pretty good job at keeping the servers updated and running smoothly.

I've always been a fan of what PC's can do, but gaming on PC's is a whole other world compared to consoles. It's not Pepsi and Coke. It's like Wine and Beer. And some people just want a nice Beer.

In order to take advantage of what PC offers over consoles, you have to spend more than both...hell, all 3 consoles. That is fact. If you can get past that, it's well worth it.

He touched on mods and graphics, and that's great, but with my PC, I've pretty much eliminated load times on 99% of the games I play. Even my i5 laptop is superior to both my 360 and PS3, and it's even more convenient. I can sit in the airport and play games with my 360 controller +laptop and that's the type of awesome that can't be matched by consoles or handhelds.

With that said, my PC cost me $700 and change, and my laptop cost me almost the same.

Now for what he failed to mention. Yes Steam is the best example PC platforms but some games require Origin and GFWL. Being forced to use multiple platform is quite annoying and one of those platforms is a complete pain in the ass (GFWL).

1st i just want to say i LOVE my ps3, xbox and even my dusty wii (little kings story anyone??), however the last few weeks i have transitioned from a hardcore dedicated concol gamer into a PC gamer and i love it, it started with portal 2, and the community levels, not i have l4d2, dead island, crysis 1 max edition, crysis 2, and a few others, now these games are all available on a ps3 (thats why i said them and not things like dawn of war (best rts game ever), star craft etc), and the games are just better, i have a pretty weak graphics card a nvida geforce 9500 2GB model and pci x16, its old, like really old got the pc 5 years ago and makes games look better than the ps3 etc (obviously this only applys to games that are on both ps3 and pc) and if i want i can turn of water reflections and partial physics and get crysis on high without any lag, i can download mods to extend the life of my games a popular mod right now that im sure everyone knows of is dayz which the developer of arma2 has stated the dayz mod is the only reason arma2 is so popular :/ theres just more.......freedom got a glich or something? google it and there will be a fan fix avalible etc

That works both ways. I understand PS3 owners had a heck of a time with Skyrim. Had to wait longer for patches. On PC, not only did the patches come sooner, mods took care of most of the glitches and design flaws. I'm not even going to mention the content mods it has.

Fortunately as an actual PC gamer all my games run perfectly with no "erroring out".

If you like consoles, great. I mean that. But please, if you are going to trash PC gaming then try to understand what you are talking about.

PC gaming isn't for the the majority of gamers for many different reasons and that's just fine for me. I prefer not having one company deciding what I can and cannot play, when I get patches and fixes, and whether I can have user generated content. Its all about preference.

It's funny, I just tried to play a well known recent PC game and was faced with tons of graphic card compatibility and driver issues, as well as peripheral recognition and unsupported resolution despite using well known hardware, which hampered performance to a ridiculous level despite the game not even being really taxing.

People always compare graphics, but the appeal of console is, repeat after me: plug and play, people, plug and play.

And if you look at the PC console debate under that prism, which is what most people do because in the end it's all about entertainment, then it's game over.

I couldn't care less about the PC. I love to play console games. I can play games with my friends on the couch, I can get all the latest games I want to play rather than waiting months afterwards, and I love to play Japanese RPG's. I dislike playing MMO's and I absolutely hate playing shooters with a mouse and keyboard, no matter how many times PC fans say how accurate it is. Also, I don't have to update my gaming system every 2 years with a new graphics card. Also, I am not getting screwed over on the PS3. I'm getting so many free games on PlayStation Plus. For 17.99, I can play LittleBigPlanet 2, Just Cause 2, Gotham City Impostors, inFAMOUS 2 and more for three months. That is an awesome deal! PC Gaming does not interest me and never will. Games from companies like Blizzard and Valve do not interest me at all either. Long live console gaming!

I'm a long time console gamer and when Mass Erect and Gears came out I thought of updating my PC to play those games. After having a hassle with each god damn part of the PC I got it running.

Then I installed the games and had several errors. The game had stuttering and graphical errors. I had to even do some scripting in the config files to get these damn games to work properly and I'm just an average PC user, and my Pc was more than capable to run the games. I've never had so much hassle in my life just to play 2 games. I swore to never play a PC game again, but then came Diablo 3. I bought and it got stuck at the installation. I didn't even bother to google the problem, I just re-sold it to a friend.

I'm never using any PC's to play a game again, couse they are always something wrong with it, and the amount of time and rage you put onto it to make it work ins't worth it.

10. mmo, fps and rts are simply 100x better on pc, witrh pc interface(while i fully admit tps, platformers and ighting and racing games are way better with a controller, which, of course, the pc supports hundreds of including ps3/360/wii controllers and racing and flight gear that destroys any console wheels)

the only, ONLY, avantage consoles have is a cheap initial investment (buy WAY more expensive in the long run, and a few must have exclusives....which is why i bought a 360 and ps3 at launch what seems like 10 years ago

Thats the fact the pc elites need to except. "Pc multiplat games look better on pcs!" No shit. I have a pretty decent rig also. vaio. sexy little thing. I get a boner from looking at her too long, But back on topic what multiplat games are we talking here? Fps? I'll give that to my rig.

But alot of mutiplat games don't translate well to the pc other then graphics. fighting games, action games, just to name a few. No? look at your steam accounts. look at the multiplat games. Now which platform does it play better on?

Well, once sony puts out the ps4 with cloud gamming. there will be no need for you to cry about PC vs PS3 vs Xbox. you will be able to have all the nut busting fun you want.

Multiplatform games are the best games this gen and most are on pc but not only on pc but perform much better on pc. Drivers are easily obtained, especially for Nvidia cards and mods are great. Also, Steam > PSN and XBL. Consoles just have exclusives in their favour. PCs are so easy to use nowadays that people who think they are difficult must be really limited intellectually.
