Xbox Live Down - Microsoft Investigating

If you're having trouble signing onto Xbox Live, you are not alone. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is "actively investigating," according to the official Xbox Support Twitter account. The Xbox Live status page notes that users may have trouble signing into Xbox Live via Xbox.com, though we've experienced the same issue when logging in via the Xbox 360 itself.

They fixed it faster than some other companies take their service down for maintenance. Heck, they fixed it faster than Amazon EC2 (cloud) fixes their outage for their enterprise ready service. The one that Netflix uses for their excellent streaming service!

That is why I love Xbox Live, they report issues, both on their website and the twitter page even if it only affects a small subset of people.

When XBL do maintenance, I don't even know, because the servers don't need to be taken down so you don't hear that XBL has a scheduled maintenance. It just happens in the background!

Heck, even the patches are done on the fly as in I don't have to log out or restart the game. The patch is downloaded and applied while my game is running and I'm good to go within a minute!

No large, slow downloads or game restarts.

We disagreed, because plenty of us has no issues including matchmaking which was not affected. Besides, it was fixed within hours. I call that pretty good for the few that was affected.

on XBL, the cloud saves are saved locally on your hard drive so you shouldn't have any issues when your internet goes down. The only time it is a problem is when you run out of the 512MB of space allocated to cloud saves, then some saves get deleted to save space for your more recent games.

Steam's fine... until *your* internet connection is down. Then you can't play a damn thing unless you convert it to Offline Mode... for which you need an internet connection to switch. Still love it - the sales get me every time.

Actually, it was hacked, and a short while after, sloten codes for ms points, xbox live and games were being used like mad. Microsoft couldn't do anything about it since they didn't know who had the stolen codes.

I've been with Live since the original Xbox going on 8yrs now. I do recall Xbox having major issues in Dec. 2007 they had major issues due to their lack of preparation for all the new users during the Xmas holiday time period. I recall they gave away a free XBLA title at the time to compensate for the sporadic connections for a 2 week period.

This has to do with the log in servers not the market place. And not everyone is even having issue.

So Xbox Live goes down sporadically for some people (didn't go down for me), and all of a sudden its a waste of money and a bad service?

The money goes into a lot of different things for Microsoft I'm sure, most importantly it goes into keeping the system secure.

I've got my credit card information stored on Xbox Live, so I don't think I'd like that information stored haphazardly, I like that Microsoft came right out, said they were investigating the issue and fixed it in a prompt manner for those affected.

Doesn't always happen like that ya know? Sometimes it takes days for any sort of acknowledgement and weeks before you knew your credit info was leaked. As a PSN+ subscriber, where was my money going during the hack?

Week early DLC for multiplat titles. I'm pretty sure a good sum of it goes towards ensuring that. If I did pay for live, I would probably justify it by that. A week early for DLC could be worth $50 to some people. I mean, I bought BF3 premium. Of course the early access is more of a bonus.
