The 5 Most Sexist Games of this Generation

MMGN: Video games are a form of entertainment, plain and simple. Just like film or television, there is ongoing criticism that many video games are sexist and are promoting unhealthy stereotypes and attitudes, with the Lara Croft reboot and its developers the latest under fire for their use of rape as a plot device for the female protagonist.

Sometimes, there are a handful of games made within our beloved male-dominated video games industry where it’s obvious that one gender is put over the other. In many cases, women are overwhelmingly represented as little more then sex objects or helpless damsels, and men as hulking, muscular characters who are only heroes if they're blowing shit up. Though there has been many developments against this stereotype and others, there are still games this gen which have fueled the fire of the sexist video game debate.

Here are 5 sexist or otherwise sexually stereotypical video games of this generation.

I loved Duke Nukem Forever. Don't give a damn what people say. It wasn't the best game ever, but it was just fun. That's all a game needs, that's all they ever needed...

CustardTrout4306d ago

I didn't like Duke Nukem forever, but I'm glad someone did!
I do feel sorry for them, people basically said "Ahh it's Duke, we'll love it no matter what"
Sucks to be developers sometimes.

Snookies124306d ago

I love the disagrees that a game doesn't just need to be fun anymore. Shows how bad the gaming community has become. I can understand not liking Duke Nukem, that's one thing. But disagreeing that all a game needs is for it to be fun? Come on people, you think we played Atari for the graphics? No. Did we play it for its online support? No. Did it have the games with the best programming in the world? No. So why did we play it at all?

Dark_Overlord4306d ago

@Snookies12

I'm with you, I really enjoyed DNF, didn't expect anything amazing, but was def fun :)

Beatboxtaun4306d ago

Why are we putting a picture of Nigri, a cosplayer, and not the actual game character in action, Juliet Starling?

Just sayin'.... Nigri is sexy, but we're talking about the sexiest games, meaning characters, no?

Beatboxtaun4306d ago

I meant "Sexist" not "Sexiest". Ah well....

DragonKnight4306d ago (Edited 4306d ago )

They changed it.

Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad launched 15 years ago today, and you'd be wise not to judge this game by it's cover.

Lollipop chainsaw now a remaster not a remake

At fans request apparently.

gold_drake188d ago

i wonder if they looked into what a remake would cost and went "NOPE Remaster it is" haha

FreeckyCake188d ago

It probably has to do with what the producer had mentioned recently. The thing about not wanting to change the essence of the original (e.g censorship). So maybe remastering the game was the best choice.

CrimsonWing69187d ago

The link to the story didn’t really answer the question. It makes no sense that you have to censor a remake and not a remaster.

What I got from that article is licensed music forced them to change to a Remake(?) and that they’re working hard with the platform holders to negotiate not censoring, which Sony is stupid about.

My question is, how would a Remaster not have to go through censorship?

I’ve seen dialogue changed in FF7 and Baten Kaitos. Then you have actual cutscenes being removed like in the dmc remaster.

I assume the same could be done to this game.

FreeckyCake187d ago

No idea. That's why I said " maybe ".

CrimsonWing69187d ago

Bull sh*t, you show me where fans wanted a Remaster instead of a Remake. I was more onboard with a Remake, I’m less excited just playing the same game I did before but now with sharper textures and better framerate.

ModsDoBetter187d ago

Probably realised this won't do the numbers so didn't want to invest.

No harm, I love Lollipop Chainsaw but it's a bit of a niche title.

gold_drake187d ago

yeh it was super niche even bk then

LoveSpuds187d ago (Edited 187d ago )

Loved it back in the day and have my copy sat on the shelf and ypu are right, it was super niche, which is why my copy is increasing in value slowly but surely. Hoping a remaster doesn't tank the value of my PS3 copy

....and that's a bad thing how?

343_Guilty_Spark262d ago

If it ain’t on Sony box it’s bad

autobotdan262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

Ninja Gaiden 2 was never multiplat. NG Sigma 2 is a remixed game not the same game at all

darthv72262d ago

Dante's inferno... such a great GoW inspired game. So sad the sequel was canned, it sounded like it was going to be even more epic than the first.

Vits262d ago

Yeap, classic GoW is still better mechanically. But the aesthetics and atmosphere of Dante's Inferno were just top-notch. Shame it never got a PC port, but at the very least is available on modern Xbox.

Juiceid262d ago

This list is ok, but Ninja Gaiden reigns supreme!

GhostScholar262d ago

I just can’t get into the devil may cry series. In my opinion you never feel powerful in those games. The guns are pointless as they only serve to be a flashy part of a combo. DMC was the only one that I could tolerate long enough to beat.
