Video: Splinter Cell Blacklist, ‘Sam Fisher at his best’

VG247: Sam Fisher made a return appearance at this year's E3, sparking the announcement of Splinter Cell Blacklist. VG247 rappelled in with the guys behind the green lights to discuss this 'blacklist' of theirs.

AbyssGravelord4320d ago

Sam Fisher was at his best during Chaos Theory, this empty shell of a former badass is nowhere near "his best".

vortis4320d ago

I know.

This new guy is just another Agent 47, Soap MacTavish wannabe superbada$$

It amazes me how few people noticed that this isn't even Splinter Cell anymore...it's just a generic, fast-paced third person, ultra-violent shooter.

CommonSense4320d ago (Edited 4320d ago )

umm...no, it's not. you're basing your opinion of this game on a demo from E3.

the disappointing thing is that Sam is no longer Michael Ironside

Zha1tan4320d ago (Edited 4320d ago )

An accurate opinion can be based once you have seen gameplay and at E3 their job is to sell the game and to show off its mechanics.

BRB using an auto aim to do all the work for you

BRB 1 button takedowns

WHere are the gadgets? where are the options for taking down enemies? where are the options for traversing the environment? Where is the customizable gun?

WTF was with turning a semi realistic stealth game into a retarded action spin off of the Bourne identity.

And not to mention no Micheal Ironside.

"Where are the gadgets? where are the options for taking down enemies? where are the options for traversing the environment? Where is the customizable gun? "
Except for the customizable gun, they're all there - they showed plenty of it in various off stage E3 demos, and the game feels amazing.
It looks like a good blend of Conviction and Chaos Theory (which are the two best games in the series IMO) with something unique thrown on top.
And if it will have something akin to the realistic difficulty level of Conviction, then it will probably be more demanding and have more depth than most games anyway. The only thing I missed there was the ability to carry bodies, which seems to be making a comeback in Blacklist.

Zha1tan4320d ago

Anyone who disagreed with that is a tool.

These modern "gamers" have no appreciation for depth at all, aslong as something looks like a micheal bay film with lots of shiny it looks "good".

vortis4320d ago

The tools seem to be disagreeing with everyone.

And @ CommonSense, if we can't base the game on the CG trailer, the gameplay trailer and a complete GAMEPLAY WALKTHROUGH of the game then what can we base it on? In all three of those Sam was a super bada$$ killing-machine mofo like any other generic super bada$$ killing-machine mofo.

Where in any of that did you see something unique, new, intriguing or different? If that's what they showed us obviously that's what they want us to think about the game, otherwise they would have done something like Watch Dogs.

Batzi4320d ago (Edited 4320d ago )

So Sam Fisher likes to kill people alot huh? Too bad he's no where near the legendary Solid Snake. Stealth is not about frickin killing people around and starting a gun fight, it's about sneaking and bypassing enemy patrol undetected and if necessary, put them to sleep or knock them out but not kill them and leave a mess! That's not what the father of stealth Hideo Kojima taught us.

beerkeg4320d ago

And that's what the first 3 games were about, total stealth. The stealth in Splinter Cell was much better than MGS when it first started, much like Thief had better stealth as well. But now Splinter Cell is a shadow of its former self, because it's not just about the shadows anymore.

theWB274320d ago

IDK...I understand people lambasting the "new" fisher. But throughout the series we knew he was a badass. But through all the stories his stress over double crossings, thinking his daughter was dead and all that jazz had pushed him passed being the stealthy man we once knew. I understand really, but he has grown an IDGAF attitude through all these stories and has stated he'll kill anyone in his way. So I understand peoples omg the old fisher is gone but we've been led up to this point within the stories.

Zha1tan4320d ago

Dumbed Down gameplay for r tards.

noctrnl134320d ago

I think everyone should calm their tits. I too enjoyed the first three splinter cell games and I too was a little disheartened at the e3 gameplay but I think they did make the game to be played both ways. We live in new times. Pew, pew explosions sell nowadays and if they hadn't catered to the majority at e3 this game would not sell.

The stealth is still there as the devs said if you so choose to play it that way. MGS4 did the same thing and that was still an amazing game in my opinion.

On another note it does go with the lore as above poster has said. Sam really could give less of a crap right now. He's no longer bound by third echelon like in the first three. Considering how decent Conviction was I'd say give it a shot before you utterly denounce it.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - A Decade in the Shadows

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell has been out of action for a decade, so it's time to look back at 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

CoNn3rB241d ago

Sam Fisher is evidently the most skilled stealth operative because no-one has seen him in his own game for years

kevco33241d ago

10 years, in fact. He must be, like, 60 by now?

phoenixwing241d ago (Edited 241d ago )

why make an inspired game that takes effort when you can half ass it with multiplayer gaas games and filler filled assassins creed games?

That question up there is the reason you don't see splinter cell games

zarbor241d ago

Yup, another example that Ubisoft has no idea what they are doing.

MIDGETonSTILTS17241d ago

The entire mark and execute system belonged in another game.

It’s cool, but the polar opposite to how Sam Fisher initially handled.

The original trilogy made shooting very, very difficult, yet a viable option, which ultimately motivates stealth.

The mark/execute system makes shooting stupid easy, to the point of why would you even bother trying stealth as an alternative?

FYouDad240d ago

Because Ghost is the method fans of the series actually prefer? IMark and execute is never forced upon the player you liiterally never have to bother using it even once throughout Blacklist.

Tody_ZA240d ago

The sad part is that I actually really enjoyed the last game, Blacklist. It may have lacked the iconic voice but the gameplay was excellent, and blended stealth, action and a mix really great compared to most games, where none of the three options felt like the wrong way to play. I really hope they either produce a remake of the original game or a proper sequel.

Rikimaru-00240d ago

Isn't UBI Soft remaking splinter cell.

Sam Fisher Deserves Better

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "Ubisoft, we need to chat. Please, have a seat. Thanks. Ok, so I think you know why you’re here. No it has nothing to do with all those game delays, we’ll talk about that later. What? No it’s not about the Skulls & Bones and Beyond Good & Evil 2 falling off the face of the Earth, just listen. We need to talk about Splinter Cell. Don’t give me that look, you know this conversation needs to happen. The way you’ve treated the series, its fans and poor Sam Fisher himself is sad, infuriating and just plain disappointing and it needs to stop."

The Fish!!!

I'd love to see a remastered edition of those games as well as something new. It's about time.

UltraNova1480d ago

MGS is done, at least as we know it so it's now or never Ubi, give Fisher the reboot it deserves. And for Gods sake, don't you dare turn Splinter Cell into another Division/Ghost reckon online abomination instead of a SP focused steath action game!

Psychonaut851480d ago

You know they will though. This is Ubisoft we’re talking about

zachyBROosevelt1480d ago (Edited 1480d ago )

I would love a new splinter cell, maybe even a reboot at this point. Sam Fisher deserves it

Profchaos1480d ago

I think reboot the entire franchise the games were great but every time they try to make him human like a father or something it comes of as unbelievable

hiawa231480d ago

They added damn near every SC game to Xbox1X back compat enahnced list. That is a lot of Sam enhanced and I am loving it, but Sam deserves a new next gen game.
