Resident Evil 6 Chris demo is action-movie paradise | Destructoid

Destructoid: I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually preferred the non-horror, Call of Duty-inspired Chris section of the Resident Evil 6 demo to more horror-focused bits starring Leon. I REALLY don't want the Resident Evil series to turn into just another competitive, fast-paced shooter, but I'd rather play that kind of game than the walking slowly down corridors for ten minutes brand of "horror" that I found in Leon's scenario.

Man, I really hope that was just a bad demo. Leon's part in Resident Evil 6 was the stuff I was most psyched for. Now I'm afraid it will be the worst.

"action-movie paradise" ironic way to put it. though i love how all these idiots are buying into the hype and are even considering buying this game, not because RE has turned into nothing more B-action movie wannabes. But the fact that all of you disregard that this game is just about assured to be "Incomplete & Have Locked On-Disc Content" that way they can sell all your content back for premium. I've seen alot of people who were jumping at CRAPCOM's neck for that exact thing now that this game is coming out all huff & puff talk is out the window. Nothing but Hypocrites on this site.

As much as i want it to go back to being survival horror, i don't see it happening but i do think the game will be alright, just that it would be alot better with survival horror.

I_LOVE_MYSELF4329d ago

Agree completely. The game doesn't looks necessarily "bad", but it no longer has that "classic" feel (but I it doesn't intend to... it's quite clear it is action focused). I do wish they could cater to action fans and the horror fans since they are having multiple campaigns, but what I have seen from Leons footage is still a bit heavy on action. I will have to wait until I see more. It doesn't necessarily look bad, but it does look different. I will wait until the gold edition, directors cut, goty edition version is released (as usual) before I buy.

I was shaking my head when the guy asked what can the enemies do to counter your sliding and movement enhancements. He said they can shoot you.. how about that.

Wish I was there so I could say thats retarded. So much for survival horror.

Son_Lee4329d ago

Looks like Leon's campaign will be more survival horror.
Chris' campaign will be action-oriented.
And Jake's campaign will be a mixture of the two.

That's the vibe I get.

user54670074329d ago

Apparently Leons story has hardly got any survival horror elements in. Journalists has apparently said while previewing the game that it's the worst campaign out of all 3 because they just use cheap ways of adding survival horror elements and because it still plays like a full on action game.

Son_Lee4329d ago

And we've seen, what, 10 minutes of Leon's campaign? Out of 10 hours or so? Of course they won't show the horror sections - or best sections for that matter. They just wanna show what will "wow" everyone. And action wows more than horror.

user54670074329d ago

Well what Capcom apparently showed was the horror sections

I mean if your were if there situation you would want to give gamers the impression that you've listened to them. You wouldn't show off action if your trying to convince people it's survival horror. They wouldn't keep that from us if they are trying to sell us the game.

WeskerChildReborned4329d ago

Not what i wanna hear from a supposed "survival horror" game but not unexpected since seeig the gameplay videos of RE6.

Hufandpuf4329d ago

That video was vey entertaining to watch. Those guys were hilarious

Well the game is said to be 30 hours long in terms of the campaign. That has something going for it. I will buy this game when the price drops to the bargain bin, because then I'll be less disappointed than spending 60 bucks.

I'm only going to play this for the story. Going into the game expecting an action game still isn't enough to satisfy me. I remember when I played RE5, and I knew it would be more action oriented, but I was still disappointed because I didn't like the direction the series went.

I remember reading somewhere that Capcom said RE6 will be less scary for people who were too scared to play RE5. WHAT?! I don't believe it! Is there anyone here that was actually that terrified of RE5? I refuse to believe such rubbish. Whats with these developers making games less scary so that they can get a wider audience when clearly, the wider audience wants more scare factor.

Yeah I figured it would be ordered like this. For me Leons best game was his debut. RE2.

There Will Never Be Another Resident Evil 6 (And That Sucks)

A rough gem that may never get the proper treatment it deserves.

Terry_B399d ago

^^ I don't want what the author was smoking.

-Foxtrot399d ago

It’s this thing where after enough time people start coming out to defend bad games for some strange reason

I mean hey if you liked it good for you but it was a f****** awful RE game.

Capcom are finally back on track and now people are crying about their shitty mistakes? No thanks.

RpgSama397d ago

I'd take a full blown remake of RE6 based around a GREATLY expanded Leon part and make it even more horror.

That might be something I would be interested in, do not care about any of the other parts of that game.

MadLad397d ago

I couldn't even get through the demo.
Years later I bought it for $3 for PC. I played about 5 minutes into it and uninstalled it.

babadivad397d ago (Edited 397d ago )

RE6 was better than 5. RE6 just took the series to the conclusion that started with 4.

RE4 was the inaugural title in the action game trilogy.

RE9 will be the likely end of the first person psychological thriller trilogy.

They'll switch it up for RE10 or more likely titled RE-X.

hotnickles397d ago

5 is vastly better than 6 imo

TheEnigma313397d ago

RE5 is way better than 6. Stop lying to yourself

FallenAngel1984398d ago (Edited 398d ago )

“But all this is solely with respect to how fans felt back in 2013 when Resident Evil 6 had just been released. The game resulted in the series getting indefinitely killed off until 5 years later when we got Resident Evil 7 and balance was restored yet again. ”

1.) Resident Evil 6 came out in 2012, not 2013

2.) A series getting killed off means no titles at all released in a time period. Silent Hill, Dead Space, Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve & Siren fans would love to see how you can say RE was on the same level of dormancy. In that 5 year time period we had a number of remasters that kept the series alive and kicking. RE1 02ms remaster even broke sales records during the period between RE6 and RE7.

3. Way to disrespect Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It was released during that RE6-RE7 period. It along with its predecessor were mainline titles that kept the horror roots of the series alive in comparison to RE5 and RE6. RE: R1 in particular even introduced the ability to walk and shoot into the series, a feature we can all be grateful for that in modern RE titles. The director RE: R1 later went on to direct RE7 and the director of RE: R2 later went to to direct the RE2 & RE4 remakes.

“Resident Evil 6 is often maligned as the worst entry in the Resident Evil series and is cited as the cause behind the long death of the franchise.”

Titles in the Resident Evil series such as Survivor, Gaiden, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, & Resistance we’re received far worse than RE6.

And death of the franchise?

RE6 was still one of the most commercially successful games in the series, guaranteeing the franchise’s future. Compare how underwhelming sales of Dead Space 3, Silent Hill: Downpour. Alone in the Dark: Illumination, Dino Crisis 3, Fatal Frame: Maiden in Black Water, Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2, and Metroid: Other M which caused their respective series to go into a long period of dormancy without any rereleases to even keep activity up.

RE however still had a significant number of titles released and rereleased after RE6. Not only that but development for RE7 started a short time after its predecessor came out, meaning there was never a development time that the series could be considered dead. There hasn’t been a single year that Capcom stopped either developing, releasing, or rereleasing Resident Evil games. Let’s not act like the 5 year period between RE6 and RE7 is such a longer time compared to the 4 year period between RE4 and RE5 as well as RE7 and RE8. We can pretty much expect RE9 in either 2025 or 2026, and you can be certain that Capcom will still release other RE tiles leading up to it

TheEnigma313397d ago (Edited 397d ago )

Man go some where with this. Only a few like this game. Why would they remake a garbage game no one likes risking money because it won't sell? RE 6 is dumpster drippings, sorry.

MIDGETonSTILTS17397d ago

It wasn’t that good, even if you enjoyed it like me.
