As one of the best superhero games, Batman: Arkham City which now goes to the Wii U can give us an idea of ​​how much more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles, the Nintendo's new console. That's one of the first things I notice when I first saw this version of the game. His suit is a new armored suit. That's why the WiiU version is called "Armored edition" :)

What I noticed is two things.

1. The Wii U version looks more 3D and has better spacial recognition, or doesn't look as flat.

2. The PS3 version has better overall detail.

I guess we can say the Wii U holds it's own but doesn't overtake the PS3. I'm sure these screens will have enough for both side to start blasting each other.

Of course the Wii U should have the better graphics due to it's release date which I believe is 6-7 years after the PS3 launch. What's alarming is the PS4 is only about 1 year away and should include updated graphics over it's predecessor.

I'm not sure why all the disagreements that is an interesting article. Maybe some horsepower is left on tap due to budgetary concerns but no doubt the Wii U has to prove it somehow.

Here is the most interesting part I found in the article in reference to this game and it supports what I said.

Wii-U lacks draw distance you can clearly see it on second image that's why they tilted picture up to try hide it. This could be down to lack of memory on the console. We won't know until released.

Looking at the comparison the PS3 version does indeed look better. It looks a bit sharper then the Wii U version and the overall detail is a bit higher. It also looks like there is a bit of aliasing on the Wii U version(particularly around the ears or pointy whatever you call of on Batman himself)

The thing with the Wii U for me is that more powerful or not Nintendo NEEDED to prove that not only was it gonna be worth buying but that it could compete with the next gen consoles and from what we have seen it will probably only be able to compete with current gen consoles and maybe Nintendo missed the boat but those consoles are gonna start winding down soon to prepare for their successors.

Another big issue is the games. Batman Arkham City was in my opinion a masterpiece and any gamer worth their salt has already played it and with so little added to the experience on the Wii U why would anyone buy it? The same can probably be said for most of the 3rd party games they showed off at E3.

I can understand why Nintendo tries to show titles ported from other platforms and don't push those. It's a learning curve and sure the goal is to show those can run on the WiiU.

What I don't understand is, why Nintendo didn't show any first party title which pushes the envelope. At least one game which looks like PS3/360 but runs 60fps @ 1080 would have sufficed; even Picmin would be fine for that.

I have no doubt the machine will show more over time, but the presentation from Nintendo did not convince me to switch just yet. Especially if it takes another year to surpass PS3/360 when in that year we will learn more about new consoles from the competition.

Price will also play a role, and at the same time, I think from a pure financial standpoint, building a top spec console with a secondary screen will not be competitive. They had to cut specs to devote resources into the controller. That's obvious; but it doesn't push neither one (console nor controller) to the limits.

My question is why are people so biased. Compare this with launch titles of PS3 and 360. Didnt PS3 launch titles like Resistance 1 look like a PS2 game. Yes they did. So if a Pre-Alpha demo version of Batman looks exactly like the PS3 version port from the end of the PS3's life is that bad?

Which makes me wonder who is Nintendo selling the new console too. Current Wii users? PS3/360 users? What's the incentive to yet buy another console - which probably will cost more than what you can get now. The new controller? Nice feature; but I don't even know how to play those games now. You must wait for direct feed footage to compare when it's released. Besides, I'd use something a little more solid than a year old port to gauge graphical fidelity.

AC3 will be a really good game to test this when it's released. It's being developed in conjunction with the other versions, done by the exact same studio.

For a first generation game for the system, we will see how it does. I'm pretty much ignoring anything that's being ported directly, especially if it's being handled by a different internal studio.

This port isn't just a port. It was also built to make use of wii u features. And look at the Batman models. The face on the wii u version looks very kiddy while the ps3 version looks more realistic. according to digital foundry, the wii u is the only one that has anti aliasing. the other two do not. I will agree that arkham city is looking a bit lackluster thus far though. a lot of the character models are pretty good, but some of the textures look incredibly flat.

again, it's being ported by a different studio. writing it off as a bad indication as Ubisoft as a whole seems to have a much better grip on the system. Pitchford has been saying Aliens is easily best looking on Wii U as well. As of right now, I'll just have to take the man's word for it.

The only way to chalk these up as early efforts is by knowing the system specs in detail. Unfortunately, we know this will probably never happen. Like I said, comparisons will be useless until the games are released. As of right now, it seems like a mixed bag. Some look equal to better, and others not so much. Hardly proof of anything, especially when you consider some of the early PS3 games, which were undeniably horrendous compared to the wizardry we see now.

For now, it's way to early to judge the capabilities of the Wii-U considering we have the lack of solid information. Besides, trying to get code to run optimized from day-1 is just silly. That would be like saying "why doesn't Uncharted 1 look as good as 3".

The ps3 images defintely have more detail. The wiiU images look a little blurred comparing closely(i was looking specifically at the skin, hair, clothing and background detail and textures).

I think Batman Armored Edition was created on an early DEV KIT,though perhaps that would explain why batman is not as detailed as the PS3 version.

Beside, if Nintendo allow developers to tap in to the full capability of the wii U, than they won't have anything left to show us when the ps4/720 comes out.

its not like theres a magic power meter its running x86 architecture and amd gpu that means standard librarys compilers and tricks are in play

all 3 consoles will be "maxed out " immediately as there wont be any learning curve

crytek and epic will showcase higher end stuff first

the incremental growth that continues on ps3 is because people are forced to learn new tricks and coding patterns to take advantage of ps3s strengths while minimizing its weakness's

conversely thats why there hasn't been as great of graphical or game evolution on 360, as the hardware was there for the taking minimal learning curve.

also dev kits by nature have more ram and processor space for programs then retail units so its not a dev kit issue most likly.

I agree, Devkit by nature have more Ram than the retail version. Well that because the added Ram is mainly used for debugging purposes.

Now the reason why I believe Batman AC was created on an early Devkit is because I don't think Nintendo would be stupid enough to allow 3rd party dev to tap in to the wii U's full hardware capability unless Nintendo has something new and appealing to show off next year E3.

Another note, according to several statements made by some 3rd party dev, Nintendo has gone thru several Dev since last years e3.That being said, The first Dev was reported to have less Ram, less embedded RAM,less CPU cache, etc.

Beside, I don't think Warner Brothers Games is going to spend a lot of time developing a game that is old.

The thing that people must remember is the WiiU's final dev kits just went out shortly before E3. So no way in hell these are polished screen captures of a final WiiU game. Now compare the same images to the launch version and then we'll have something to debate. But PS3 owners should be ashamed, because when that system was launch it too received ports of 360 games and most looked and ran inferior to that of the 360 build. Which I don't think will be the case here at all, once developers put finishing touches on their launch games. Which they are for sure working on doing right now as we speak of this matter...

So I think Batman looks better in the Wii-U version due to the different suit and lighting effects....but the background looks a lot better on the PS3 than the U version.

But everyone seems to forget, the U version isn't even complete yet and they are still working on it. Plus, your comparing a game on PS3 that's most likely pushing that system to the max, while the U version is not pushing the system to the max at all. For one, we know all launch games are going to be 720P, and that's because the developers chose to do this. Second this game is a port and wasn't built from the ground up to take advantage of the hardware. Also, developers don't even know how to use the hardware like they do on older systems with 6-7 years of experience on them. And finally, does everyone forget that the system is pushing a second image the whole time to the controller !! Even if the game is taking a hit when it comesto certain aspects in the game, the U is basically running two screens at once, which shows its a lot more powerful than current gen.

This is such a stupid comparison for two reasons:

One, both images are pulled from different sources, meaning the compression of the images are different. One could have more artifacts when examined more closely because they used a different bit rate, and

Two, THE WII U VERSION HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET! It's still in development, and everyone knows that polishing up the graphics is the last thing the devs do before a title goes gold.

Wait until the game actually gets released before you broke-ass console tards argue over which platform has the best INFERIOR (to PC, that is) graphics.

Doesnt matter even if it smoked ps3 in 1080p 60fps.. Theres nothing to look forward to on the system for at least a year as of now... No1 wants games that have been out,played, or arent simultaniously released.. I doubt the Wii U will be "Hardcore" anytime soon or at all.. Dude, i know everything there is to know about this system.. I really REALLY wanted it until i seen that it has a foggy future as far as 3rd party is concerned.. I know that devs have to get used to the new tech & it is pretty impressive that the system is launching with titles that are ALREADY on par with current gen..PS3 took years for devs to get things running well.. Its just that games like Castlevania, Tomb Raider, RE6, Metal Gear Rising, COD, & other various titles arent being developed as of now... By the time EVERYTHING comes out on time, true nx gen will be on the market.. Plus theres alot of new engines being shown & put together that Wii U wont be able to handle so devs will sideline it just like the Wii.. Dont get me wrong because I WILL buy a Wii U at some point if the price is right but it will be for 1st party games like Metroid & Zelda.. For me, it's always a worrying sign when there is a comparison like this...Wii U vs. PS3 Arkham City (Multi-plat) game.

Of course a next gen console should look much better than our current gen...and there in lies my point!

....I'm in no way knocking the Wii U system, but this comparison is bad for nintendo's new machine in so many ways.

Either the Wii U is seriously underpowered for a next gen console, or the developers didn't bother to take maximum advantage of the console....either way, this is not a good advertisement for a next generation games console.

It makes me want to wait it out for PS4 & Next Box, rather than purchase the Wii U..... but hey, that's just my opinion.

And a great opinion it is, sir! (one of those Agree's are mine ;). I will tell you this, though...if anything, Nintendo always gets it right by appealing to the young at heart and purveyors of high quality First Gen titles. It's their third party support that fails miserably (on home consoles, anyways). But I do admire them and love them...always have and probably always will as long as Mario and Link are around. I'm not super excited about this system tbh due to the fact that I'm greatly spoiled by the PC gaming's superior graphics and performance, but I do hope this system does well and Nintendo leaves the gimmicky for the next step in gaming greatness.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The game isn't finished yet and looks as good as a game on 6 year old hardware that devs are fully utilizing now. I don't think wiiu is meant to be next gen, wiiu is nintendos next gen not sonys or microsofts and it's their jump into HD. I don't think anyone expected it to be bleeding edge tech that took the fight straight to ps4. I'm personally pumped that Nintendo is finally HD and done with motion controls hopefully, that's the reason I skipped wii. Just wait untill a true Mario or Zelda drops in HD, everyone will go crazy. With nintendos first party art direction and in HD their games will look amazing for years to come.
