Jimquisition: The Best Looking Game of This Generation

The Jimquisition takes a break from discussing consumer shenanigans to focus a little on the games themselves.

What exactly is the best looking game this generation, and why does it look better than the games you're all thinking of whenever such a discussion usually comes up? As always, the best looking man of this generation has the answer (Jim is the best looking man because of his muscles).

just started the vid , instead of saying viva pinata , he could have said uncharted 2 ...it's colorfull and NOT grimdark.
viva pinata is not a good choice.

Edit: saw the end of the vid..he should have said "art style" and not "colors" at the start ..art style is the king especially in HD ..that why 2d titles and cell shading games rocks and that's why i'm looking forward to jet set radio SEN/XBL/VITA ...

i understand the logic but i just can't agree on viva pinata ... in term of art style, many games have done better with bright colors as well .

It's like he just ignored all the beautifull 2D attempts made this gen

kevnb4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

he hasnt played much on pc now has he? I think Diablo 3 and wow are the best looking games this gen.

koh4342d ago

I'm quite sure he has, being a professional video game journalist and all. He was clearly trying to make a point about how some graphical styles have a longer-term appeal.

kevnb4342d ago (Edited 4342d ago )

and its a good point, but he left out WOW and crysis. Alot of those supposed awesome looking console games already look kind of bad to me now, and everyone will see it next gen when this whole hd thing settles down.

Redempteur4342d ago

Wow and crysis don't stand the test of time as well that's why Wow was updated and that's why crysis 1 look bland now...

vortis4342d ago

uh, Allods looks better than WoW and it's a WoW-clone.

OmniSlashPT4342d ago

This video was absolutely pointless. So colors mean it's better? Games like LIMBO are black and white and look fukin dope Journey for example will look awesome in 10 years. And just because a game will not look good in 10 years doesn't mean it has some fukin good graphics. Look at FF7 for example, it looks like a joke nowadays, but that doesn't mean it's not one of the best games ever. The same goes with Deus Ex, Half Life, Shadow of The Colossus and so on.

I understand bland and colorless visuals are less apealing, but war is ugly, it's grey and it's dark. Those are war games, not pinata games or games about flowers and rainbows.

He doesn't have enough strong arguments. All he says it's that colors make graphics look better and cellshade it's timeless. Well, that doesn't make Viva Pinata the best looking game htis generation.

Rayman Origins for example, is absolutely gorgeous. But you can't compare Rayman's art and visuals to Uncharted. Uncharted tries to go to photo realism, Rayman is cartoonish.

Rather see Banjo-Threeie

Hell a remake-revamp of Grabbed by the Ghoulies, great concepts, not executed the best but having everything around you as a weapon was great, with new tech they could get more creative

Sciurus_vulgaris653d ago

Microsoft has been gradually rebooting Rare IPs. I wouldn’t be surprised if MS announces another Rare IP reboot after Perfect Dark release in 2023-2024. Based on popularity you would think Banjo, Viva Piñata and Conker would be the next likely candidates for rebooting [or a new release].

maxbeverett652d ago

Agree completely with you but Viva Pinata would be beautiful with modern graphics

AngainorG7X653d ago

Banjo, Conker, Kameo so many great IPs, come on MS..

maxbeverett652d ago

Conker is a particularly great shout

XiNatsuDragnel653d ago

So much rare IPs cmon Microsoft

Fearmonkey651d ago

I loved the first game, id love a new game like the first one.

EazyC651d ago

This game rocked. It was so relaxing making a little garden and getting pinatas to... Dance with each other.

I want a new Perfect Dark, Banjo and Jet Force Gemini.

Bathyj1331d ago

I actually don't want them. I'm not a big fan of Microsoft rehashing IPs they had nothing to do with creating just because they happen to own them.

Before you call me fanboy tell me a game they did that to that actually lives up the the original?

Just leave our beloved memories alone. You want to bring something back, redo crimson Skies or Brute Force. At least they were your games and they need updates.

gamer78041331d ago

I'm all for The Initiative rebooting perfect dark as a third person though, sounds like its trying something new and not just rehashing with a new coat of paint with this idea. Hope we see a tease of it in the next showcase.

gamer78041331d ago

Rumor is The Initiative is working on rebooting Perfect Dark in third person, normally I wasn't a fan of taking existing IPs but if its something new like this I'm up for it.

jznrpg1331d ago (Edited 1331d ago )

Don’t give them the Battletoads treatment .

TravsVoid1331d ago (Edited 1331d ago )

Donkey Kong Country is probably my favorite game of all time but I've not connected with much else Rareware has made since other than maybe Killer Instinct. Sea of Thieves has got to be close to my worst $60 purchase I've ever made.

sagapo1331d ago

Viva pinata was kinda fun imo.

Rare Games That Need A Comeback

Kaan writes: "Rare is easily the most historic Xbox Game Studio. Founded in 1985, Rare may have begun life churning out middling titles for Nintendo but in the '90s Rare became a juggernaut within the games industry. They released classic after classic in quick succession and the most impressive part was the variety in titles. Beat 'em ups, Kart racers, platformers, first-person shooters, third-person action games; Rare did it all. But they need to bring some of these games back. Now."
