Tex Murphy Dons Fedora Once Again

"The name Tex Murphy can yield radically different responses from gamers in 2012. To old-school adventurers, the Tex games are at or near the pinnacle of revered genre classics (two top 25 finishes among the all-time greatest adventures don't lie!), blending superb storytelling, engaging characters, a memorable sci-fi setting, branching plot paths, player-driven choice-and-consequence, full 3D control before 3D was popular, varying difficulty levels, challenging puzzles, and the obligatory (but in this case entirely deserved) "much more". Kickstarter has been amazing for fans of old RPGs and point and click adventure fans. Hammiest videogame trailer ever sees return of Tex Murphy

The ‘Tex Murphy’ series provided some of the cheesiest fun of the nineties (and that’s saying a lot for the decade). Designed by Chris Jones, the series follows a private investigator, Tex Murphy, in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco.

The later games were also considered somewhat technically advanced at the time, for blending FMV with full 3D environments. Of course, by todays standards, they look like the videogame equivelant of a low-budget B-movie. Which is what makes them so great.

The last game in the series, Tex Murphy: Overseer, was released back in 1998; for while it looked like the end for Tex Murphy. After all, in a series like this, there’s always the problem of actors getting too old. Fortunately for fans of cheesy FMV noir videogames, Tex Murphy is making a comeback.
