Rayman Legends video doesn't represent final game - Ubisoft

Ubisoft has said that the new features showcased in the Rayman Legends trailer don't represent the final game or the Wii U. According to the publisher, this video was designed to be seen by internal production teams who create game prototypes with work in progress development kits.

Really? Huh. Awfully polished trailer for internal production teams.

Baka-akaB4375d ago

Hardly a first , often you do need that kind of trailer to demo @ at the PR and marketing teams

Jourdy2884375d ago

Good point, I didn't think about that.

2EHO4375d ago

Yes but haters will still say thisis a final product trailer. It was LEAKED! Like I've said over and over. We have to wait until E3.

--Onilink--4375d ago

why haters? that trailer looked great, i hope it represents a lot of what we will see in the final game

2EHO4375d ago

Because there are those that dont like Nintendo because they don't follow the rules when it comes to gaming. People don't like innovation and thus everything Nintendo tries to do something. Is labeled a gimmick until their console maker of choice adopts something similar and then its cool and really adds to the gameplay. I will be buying the wii u on launch day like I did the wii, GameCube, 64 you get the point. I'm not a blind fan boy though. Nintendo has work to do and really has to make sure they blow people's minds and really sell this console as an all around beast. They have a lot to prove to consumers and developers if they plan on this console having an immediate impact on the gaming world.

--Onilink--4375d ago

well yeah i understand that point, but your comment makes it sound like the trailer is bad and could be used by haters, when its actually the opposite, its a really good trailer showing off some cool features of the WiiU

Well this looked fantastic enough for it to be on my "Must have" list. I wasn't expecting a Rayman Origins sequel to be "announced" (one month early isn't that much though) so quickly.
Nobody was even sure there would be a sequel at all.

What worries me is that Michel Ancel may not have been part of its production, as he's supposed to be working on Beyond Good & Evil 2.
What doesn't worry me is that this engine was built by Ancel and his team, which means that, if most of the team's members are working on this one, it will be at least as impressive and enjoyable as Origins.

I'm excited. Why am I so excited?! It will probably have a November release like Origins, since the Wii U is rumoured to release during that month. Following Origins' success, it's safe to say that Legends will sell very well.
But, please, let's not make "2D Rayman Game" a DLC-plagued yearly release. Please, Ubisoft, don't ruin it.

"Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier."

Oh. All right! Happiness ensues.

neutralgamer194375d ago

As if Rayman games need alot to look good lol These cartoony games are many and easy to produce on any system (and could look just as good on say a Vita) compared to more technologically advanced games such as a Gears, KZ or other. Games such as these dont move me one bit because it brings nothing new to the table or show me the capabilities of the wii u. I dont care for gimmicky controller support either. Call t hating or whatever you want, but i bet if the Wii u shws promise in differnt titles and new ip's ill probably get the Wii u before many of you blindly praising it.

Baka-akaB4375d ago (Edited 4375d ago )

Those games arent easy to produce at all , since usually instead of providing that kind of georgeous 2d and 2.5d , big publishers would instead sell you some retro 8-16 bits throwback .

Sega itself can't even manage than level of quality with its sonic 4 episodes .

The animation alone is a nightmare and sheer craftmanship . Full on 3d games are much easier to produce , especially when most of them use middleware suits like Unreal engine 3 and a matter of throwing staff and money at it .

--Onilink--4375d ago

not to mention everything in a game like Rayman Origins is hand-drawn

Baka-akaB4375d ago (Edited 4375d ago )

precisely ,no amount of fancy motion capturing is going to save you there , and even less motion blur tricks .

closnyc4375d ago

watch out , we have a tech guru here that knows how to make games!! watch out people, just watch out

Croash4375d ago

Uh, I believe Rayman Origins/Legends would look the same on PlayStation 2 or Xbox, albeit with a lower resolution. It isn't supposed to show graphical prowess.
Games like Rayman Origins are awesome because of their easy to learn/hard to master gameplay and amazing artistic direction (that also includes the music and sound effects). It's pure fun.

Sure, it won't be a killer app for the Wii U, but then again who cares, Nintendo's supposed to handle this. It's a video game, it will be released on different platforms and a lot of people will be able to enjoy it, this is the only thing that matters.

Now if you think that games like Origins, which one of 2011's most polished and fun titles, aren't worthy of your time, then it's high time you've reconsidered that. And bring along a few friends.

Also, no matter what you think, a game like Rayman Origins isn't easily done. It requires a lot of talent to draw, color, animate, etc... everything that you're able to see in-game, while making sure it stays playable and doesn't confuse players by making it hard to see the path.

Baka-akaB4375d ago (Edited 4375d ago )

I disagree a little bit , you'd probably drop at least half of its animation effects too . I wouldnt say it's the best looking game obviously , but you guys underestimate it vastly imo .

Some of the best 2d things we had on ps2 were the excellent Odin sphere or Street fighter III , an inferior port of the arcade version .

It wouldnt handle as well Oboro Muramasa or that Rayman .

Croash4375d ago (Edited 4375d ago )

Ah, let me rephrase that a little bit.

I believe the hardware itself would be able to ->handle<- Rayman Origins = to make it run. The PlayStation 2 and the Xbox were quite powerful and the Wii isn't vastly superior to them. As far as I'm concerned, Rayman Origins looks exactly like its PC/PS3/630 counterparts.
I'm not saying it would be 60 FPS, and certainly not 1080p.

However, what's sure is that a game looking as good as this would never have been created back in the PS2 days. The engine they've built, UbiArt, is impressive. I can't imagine how hard they had to work to make it that good but the results have proven to be very satisfying.

get the damn figures off my consoles! that's a terrible idea, I could only imagine the abuse they will do with pokemon.

Will There Ever Be A New Rayman Game?

Ubisoft barely have a leg to stand on lately, so do they need to crack open the vaults and return platforming royalty to glory for some goodwill?

We need Rayman 4, they could make a great platformer game if they wanted. With the open hub levels and the like.

Better than relying on Rabbids and Assassins Creed all the time

Profchaos50d ago

Yeah agree id love a Rayman 2 style 3d platform game over another 2d platformer I know people loved legends but it never gelled with me same as Rayman 1 back in the day on PS it just felt like a average platformer with sonic and Mario offering something better on what was then last gen hardware

Terry_B51d ago

Yes..but I am sure it won't be the Rayman game fans want. Not from the company that is Ubisoft today.

mastershredder51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Ancel is retired from games. His hoodlum/rabbid team are doing their own thing. It would not be the same if Ubisoft did.

Profchaos50d ago

Probably far more profitable to make low effort Rabbids games aimed at kids over a next Rayman

Chocoburger50d ago

Experience points, skill trees to fill up, level gating, endless menial tasks and side quests, constantly scrounging for resources. Always having to upgrade your gear. A.KA. "The Ubisoft effect".

No thanks, don't ruin Rayman's legacy.

Profchaos50d ago

Sure there will be it'll launch right alongside the next splinter cell

Rayman Legends - 10 Years of Legendary Platforming

Rayman Legends made its debut 10 years ago today, and has been launched on nearly every gaming platform since.

HankHill233d ago

Too bad Ubisoft only cares about live service games now. Maybe one day they'll make a new Rayman game.

Venoxn4g233d ago

Great games.. would be cool to get qn Origins remaster at least..I know that many of the levels are in Legends, but still

Outlawzz232d ago

Loved this game but wish they would create a new Rayman 3d game.
