The Real Problem With Mass Effect’s Ending is its Fans

Mass Effect 3 is a triumph. There’s really no other way to describe it. The game represents the culmination of a ten-year effort on the part of BioWare to craft the industry’s first true epic—a multi-game story in which every decision by the player has weight and meaning. Frankly, reviewing Mass Effect 3 within the same critical framework as one reviews SSX or Modern Warfare is an insult to BioWare’s incredible achievement, regardless of the final score assigned.

... I'm beginning to lose faith in ever reading intelligent gaming journalism again. Just. Wow. Lost for words.

Agreed. The real problem with gaming is the sheer over abundance of poorly written, dull, adolescent drivel instead of insightful, witty, and community helpful prose.

I encourage everyone to click on explosion.com just below "Read full story" and rate the site and story according to earned merit, or lack thereof.

"every decision by the player has weight and meaning"

this sentence is why i hate mass effect 3, because its simply not true, in ME2 i killed Samara and recruited morinth, before Samara died she said i would regret that decision, well no, because it had absolutely no effect on ME3, just one of many waisted opportunities.

save or destroy the collectors base in ME2? that should make a huge impact no? well don't worry bioware got lazy and forgot about that too, but hey they chucked in some war assets in its place.

or how about telling Ashley or kaiden to bugger off in ME3, you would think thats a decision that could go either way, maybe they die because you didn't recruit them again, or maybe they could have had a special surprise and had one last character kept secret for those brave enough to ditch your old pals from ME1, but no, you never see them again.....the end.

all your decisions boil down to is cheesy war assets, bioware got sloppy and didn't know how to close the trilogy, instead of reward players for the many tough decisions made throughout the series they gave us war assets....

ME3 was a fun game dont get me wrong, but when its over what should have been one of my greatest gaming memories ever, has just ruined my love for the entire series, keep your DLC bioware i dont even want it.

Well technically I think its safe to say EA has indoctrinated Bioware at this point. Which is why those things are left out of ME 3.

This article has been done before. It wasn't interesting then and it certainly isn't interesting now. Blaming the fans for the problems with the game is like blaming your children for you getting pregnant.

apparently, in his opinion you are :) you should have stopped your evolution from tiny little cell. So if you put it this way, then yes, It is your fault that you were born =) ( no offense of course )

jthamind4380d ago

no, the real problem is that articles like these keep springing up.

we don't care what "journalist" #918,404 has to say about Mass Effect 3's ending.

bangoskank4380d ago

The problem is with idiots like this who know nothing about good storytelling and try to justify Bioware's botched ending to one of the better sci-fi epics in video game history.

Or the author just wants to cash in a few clicks by mentioning Mass Effect 3 Ending in the title. Seriously, this is BEYOND desperate.
