Are Developers and Publishers Ignoring the Vita’s Potential in Favor of Wii U?

Joel Taveras writes, "“We’re going to wait and see.” That’s been a common response that I’ve run into whenever the name PlayStation Vita comes up in conversation with anyone outside of Sony. Is it good business sense? Sure, whenever you’re talking about new hardware you always run the risk of things not working out as planned, and for that very reason third party developers can’t always justify jumping in blindly based on Sony’s good graces.
On the other hand though, why are those same developers already banking on “innovative” Wii U ideas with little, but more often zero, mention of the Vita?"

They probably are to a large extend.

Considering the fact a Vita is not out of the box. Therefor a larger development risk should be considered.

sikbeta4402d ago

Wii-u = Console with tablet controller included in every box

Vita = handheld system not tied to any home console, compatibility with PS3/PS3 can be done, but it's not included in the PS3 box and it'll not be included with the PS4 as well, so there is no point for devs to try to achieve the same stuff they can do with the Wii-U

dark-hollow4402d ago

People have to to consider that wii u all around is built to utilize the tablet feature while the ps3 vita combo aren't.

Every wii u owner will have that controller, but not every ps3 owner have a vita which limit the market for those games.

Never mind the fact that this combo cost 500$ and if you want a ps3 and vita get them for their own games but don't hold your breath for more vita ps3 combo games.

MmaFan-Qc4402d ago (Edited 4402d ago )

because we all know MadWorld, No More Heroes, Muramasa sold soooooo well on the wii......

i dont see why publishers wouldnt invest into a game console mainly driven by nintendo only games...

/s

dark-hollow4402d ago

Like Alan wake and mag did much better /s

Its not because they are Nintendo games or not, but because madworld and no more heroes arent advertised much and not that popular.

PopRocks3594401d ago

It's not out of the question to imagine more people thinking of using the Wii U for those types of games as oppose to a Vita/PS3 combo. For one thing it's more convenient getting everything in one box and it's cheaper.

Well seeing as to games being made with these functions mean that one must own a ps3 & vita is the first problem. Not everyone owns a ps3 or wants a ps3, if I have a 360 most likely I'm not buying a PS3 and vice versa. Secondly I've only seen the psvita perform remote play albeit with a lot of lag as well so all these people saying the device can perform everything that the wiiu can please provide video proof and we'll believe you!

SpinalRemains1384400d ago

This isn't true. My Vita experiences zero lag when playing remotely. I have only played 3 games using it remotely, but there was no lag at all.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4402d ago

That's not what I heard. I heard that a lot of developers are saying that the WII U isn't as capable as the ps3 and 360 are. And that the vita/ps3 combo is better than the wii u.

dabri54402d ago

It might work better but there a few devs who would risk developing a game that required both systems. They would be limiting their potential sales market by a ton.

Moncole4402d ago

I dont know if your trolling or just stupid.

360GamerFG4402d ago

Those aren't mutually exclusive so I'd say both.

2EHO4402d ago

Ive heard otherwise from known developers. Not developers hiding in the shadows.

THQ: “WiiU is just alot more powerful than current HD consoles it does 1080p very easy.”

Epic: “It will do things current HD consoles simply cant do its going to be a powerful box.”

Crytek: “WiiU devkits are very powerful, the specs are very good”

Vigil Games: “We had the game at the same level as high end pc version in a matter of days and a few lines of code got the game up and running on tablet in 5 mins.”

EA: "Wii U is not a transitional platform, it is a true next generation

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4402d ago (Edited 4402d ago )

Hey... I'm just telling you what I heard. And what a lot of news sites have been reporting lately. The specs of the WII U prolly weren't finalized when those quotes were released. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Here's what Nintendo had to say about the rumor.

“We do not focus on technology specs. We understand that people like to dissect graphics and processing power, but the experience of playing will always be more important than raw numbers.”

Ck1x4402d ago

Lol! Dude you are grasping if anyone knows nintendo they know that they almost never comment or respond to rumors at all... Why would they when they have so much invested in this years e3? The system is going to be very powerful people just face it, its not like its new territory for nintendo to invest when it comes to putting technology in their systems. Nintendo spent quite a bit on the gamecube back then, it was no slouch of a system in terms of graphical effects and it was very efficient for its size. So I expect that they will do the very same thing with the wiiu!

FinalomegaS4402d ago

@Ck1x

remember the first time they showed Rogue squadron scene vs the movie... I was like OMG and it was realtime not FMV.

Here we are going into the 3rd battle of the main 3 and things look a bit different this time. They are using a medium storage that holds enough space, it can show the same visuals as the others, will be powerful enough for the devs... A grand battle will be her soon when all 3 are available. Just hope we get some great pricing out of this. Gaming as a hobby gets expensive lol.

Ashunderfire864402d ago (Edited 4402d ago )

Ready to debunk you and those so called anonymous developers. Here is proof that the Wii U is more powerful than 360/PS3 and even PS Vita. Watch the video at 1:11!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Creative Director Brian Martell confirmed that the Wii U has more Ram and better processor, and its one of the better versions, which means that Wii U and PC versions are superior. What proof do these anonymous developers have any way? LOL!!! Knew that rumor was bogus from the start.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4402d ago

Well you can't debunk me at all because I'm not the one who made the statement. Like I said I'm just reporting what a lot of news sites have been reporting lately. Nintendo didn't confirm or deny the rumor. All they said is they don't focus on graphics but gameplay.

mamotte4401d ago

tell me the company of those developers.
Seriously, tell me. You'll be amazed.

This has to be an April fool's joke because I honestly don't believe that Nintendo will screw their fans by giving them a console that's weaker than both the PS3 and 360. Seriously these consoles are over 5 years old so it shouldn't cost much to produce something that's more powerful than both the 360 and PS3. Unless of course Nintendo is planning on making a massive profit with each Wii U sold.

Like I said before I honestly think it's an April fools joke.

The tablet costs almost as much as the system by itself to manufacture. That is going to drive up the cost of the system by a lot. This may also give Nintendo a reason to lower the specs of the Wii- U to get the systems price down.

taz80804402d ago

People will most likely favor the Wii U just because of how well the Wii sold and conversely shun the Vita as the PSP had very slow sales. Why invest in something that may not give you a good return. The Wii U will most likely sell extremely well while the Vita still must prove itself unfortunately.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
