"If I’ve learned anything from this journey, it’s that some concepts should not be translated into books, films, music, or games. Many stories work better in a book, but not so much in a film. The same applies for films failing when translated into games. Katawa Shoujo (translated directly as “Cripple Girls”) is a bold attempt to maintain the visual novel genre; bold, because the plotline digs into a subject where games haven’t gone before. You assume the role of Hisao, a high school student who suffers from cardiac dysrhythmia (meaning he has a dangerously irregular heartbeat), and he is transferred to a school for disabled youths. You, the player, are tasked with reading large bulks of text and choosing prompted options that further the story. The heart of the story is Hisao’s romance with one of five disabled young ladies, hence the title of the game. At the very least, the game is free to download, so you don't feel cheated when you die on the inside. I leave you now with a written log by Huckleberry Ric, as he and Hard4Games’ John Bennett attempt to find their lost comrade, Coyote. Enjoy."
KeenGamer: "We have the best visual novels to suggest to you, but we do recognize that many gamers don’t consider visual novels as games. Sluggishly leafing through dialogues, from time to time making choices. Additionally, many don’t like the anime style of the genre. Maybe we can change your mind."
Most games today are safe to play with colleagues and family, however, some games still have that “nope, I don’t want my mom to see me playing this”-feel to them. Christian has played most of this genre, and has made a list of his top 10 NSFW games.
“Most of the game is safe to play with family, but you can be unlucky and have your parents walk in on the scene that features dildo’s and the characters’ parents having sex.”
I think you mean kids walking in on dad fapping. Pretty sure the age group of South Park fans makes it the parents playing the game. Maybe I was supposed to quit gaming when I had kids though...
Disabilities aren't common in video games. But when they do appear, their portrayals are more realistic than one would at first believe.
This was the only game I played that made me cry. And I mean that in a good emotional way. :)
Game is awesome!
