Thank God they are back, I love extra credit... To bad the escapist tried to screw em. Keep up the great videos guys!

One of the best videos I've seen on the net... why? you may ask, because it's a look at something I have loved for years and always wondered about... Games! and how are they made...

Also because the video is inspiring, as some of the things may seem obvious but when put together like this it's makes the video a priceless tool in understanding exactly what your looking at..

For example one day I took the back brakes off my car thinking, it can't be that hard to change the brakes on your car... Boy was I wrong, turns out the back brakes where drum brakes and when I opened it up the whole thing fell onto the ground and I was lost on how that would go back together..

-But I did solve this problem, by taking off the other wheel really slowly and seeing how everything went together.. I assume coding is like this -and that's something they don't tell you when you sign up for your programing class at college, but maybe they should...would have saved me some time and money if it was explained like this..

Because it brings a clear understand to the real task at hand.. and just how hard it may or may not be for the type of person you are..

Long story short I got that brake job done, but I would never do it again, I take my car to the shop these days. I did not like or enjoy it, so I learned the hard way, that programing is not for me..

and changing the brakes on my car, yeah I can, but I sure as hell don't want to, so hat's off to the developers who do, and do it well because it sure as hell is not easy..

Not one of the better episodes. Most of it was a little too obvious, and I think it should be a little too obvious if you're serious about becoming a programmer. Also, developing videogames is about so much more, so when part 2 is about "The importance of communciation" (really guys?) it makes me a little sceptical. Still a great show, so do keep going!

We'll see where they go with part two. I think this is going to come mostly from their dev contributors. Probably exactly what the "producer" episode was about, making sure that developers and designers are communicating, making realistic decisions, coming up with creative solutions, and making cuts when needed.

...otherwise, you'll get Square-Enix post 2000.

Tommykrem4442d ago

God, yeah. Now I like Final Fantasy XIII-2 as the next guy, but they need to hire someone else to do the dialogue. My face and my palm have gotten to know each other so well over the last FFs.

I wish there were more shows like this.

there's only about four shows with similar depth.

All your history

sequalitus

game overthinker

total biscuits mailbox

everything else is boring or non existent.

there used to be a show on tgw called scribble that was pretty good but they only did a couple episodes then it died.

Thanks for the recommendations! I love Sequelitis, it's the best Egoraptor thing ever. And that's saying something!

MoveTheGlow4442d ago

Actually very happy about this one. They can't get into technical detail, because that stuff's always changing. They also don't want to get outright cynical on all those starry-eyed young gamers out there just because it's a competitive field that requires a formal education.

They managed to keep things on the optimistic side while not getting bogged down in the details. I think James knows they could write multiple 20-episode blocks on this topic alone; they're not going to reinvent the wheel, they're just trying to be broad enough for everyone to get the main ideas and move on.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.

70 percent of devs unsure of live-service games sustainability

With so many games fighting for players' attention and interest losing out over time, time sink games are at risk of eventually losing steam.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde1d 11h ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff21832d ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg2d ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.
