Bitmob - You Should Play… Eternal Sonata

Bitmob - What was going through the mind of Frédéric Chopin in his final hours? If we're to believe Tri-Crescendo, his waning moments would seem to have been spent traveling a colorful storybook world, his companions with names like Viola and Jazza. It's actually an idea that's loaded with potential and one that perhaps could have been masterful in the right hands. It's the kind of premise that screams for the sure hand of someone like animation master Miyazaki Hayao -- someone who could have lifted it to the next level.

Yep - one of the better JRPGs of this generation.

REALgamer4463d ago

Shame it didn't really take off enough for a sequel to be green-lit. :(

Other excellent JRPGs this gen that are now dirt cheap and well worth playing:

- Lost Odyssey (my personal fave this gen)
- Tales of Vesperia
- Folklore
- Infinite Undiscovery (get past the horrible first 2-3 hours and it transforms into a great game)
- Blue Dragon
- Xenoblade Chronicles
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope

I knew there must have been one other person who loved infinite undiscovery. That game really was a diamond in the rough. The battle system was great fun and its well worth the time to see the ending and last boss. The beginning is total shi* though.

I would add Magna Carta 2. Awesome graphics/art style and the battle system is one of the best ive ever played. The bosses are alot of fun, check it out.

Valkyria Chronicles is conspicuously missing from that list, but I otherwise agree.

I fell asleep playing blue dragon -_-;;

n4gisatroll4463d ago

I should of bought it from an old coworker, he loved it.

Baddo_Ekkusuchi4463d ago

Awesome that this incudes jap voice overs. Even if there is no trophies, people should def get this game. Great rpg hands down

dc14463d ago

You're very right.
And that's how I enjoyed the game: Japanese voice overs with English subtitles.

Shame that it wasn't carried over in the battles.

I think if they brought it over to the PS Vita, It'd probably get quite a bit of attention.

It shouldn't just be a straight-ass port though.. the developers should try to take advantage of the Vita's unique hardware features in-game whenever possible as well.

The Vita's gorgeous & vibrant OLED screen will no doubt help to bring out the game's beautiful & colorful artwork also.

REALgamer4463d ago

Agreed!

JRPGs seem to work a bit better on handhelds in my opinion since they tend to use small-screen friendly design choices such as overhead / fixed cameras, turn-based combat, text boxes and very clean, colourful art styles.

I would love for Xenoblade Chronicles to get a port!

Infernostew4463d ago

ES was a cool JRPG with a very interesting battle system. Characters and story were disappointing but definitely worth a try if you're looking for a good JRPG to play while waiting for Tales of Graces f to be released.

currently playing this game. weird that it has no open traveling parts. great combat system though :D

Xenoblade X felt like Avatar as a game visually. The art in that series is amazing.

It's crazy to think that Uncharted came out so long ago. I replayed the series last year as part of the Nathan Drake Collection, and the game felt brand new again, even after all these years. Such an enduring franchise.

jokerman272566d ago

I agree, I played all of them, included the Vita game last year just for funsies and they are amazing!

Seriously, no Bioshock, Orange Box, or Modern Warfare on this list?

jokerman272566d ago

I could only pick 7 ;) They were hard to pick and MW was barely edged out by Halo 3.
