Hitman Absolution vs. the old Hitman games

Hitman: Absolution's first appearance at last year's E3 was an undisputed success. IO Interactive's reborn Agent 47 immediately became one of the show's major talking points, and by the end of the week Square Enix's booth was adorned with dozens of nomination placards. And yet despite this warm reception, many fans of the series were left dismayed: it seemed as if IO had quietly snuffed out the open-ended design that had previously defined the franchise, leaving in its place a streamlined action shooter.

VideoGamer.com, with the help of game director Tor Blystad, compare Hitman Absolution to its predecessors.

*facepalm* ut just sounds so noob friendly its insulting...

I played Mirror's Edge the first playthrough with the red stuff disabled. It was much more a "Tomb Raider"-like experience. I loved it.
Gonna do the SAME THING with this Hitman game. I am gonna disable everything that helps, the only thing I want is a map that tells me where everyone is, because I am used to that feature and love it.
Then I am gonna spend my hours upon hours trying to find a way to get to my target.

BUT if every level is like this demo level they showed, this will be a Splinter Cell: Conviction-like action game. Which will mean the death of 47.
(But, of course, every frist level in a Hitman game was always a "tutorial" level, I have the feeling this is the same.)

SilentNegotiator4474d ago (Edited 4474d ago )

They spent the last few years on Kane & Lynch.....I guess we shouldn't have expected them to properly deliver a new Hitman game.

RIP Stealth Games

bauer0074474d ago

your an idiot man, this lets you use stealth OR action, so no just RIP to your mum

SilentNegotiator4474d ago

No true stealth game can design itself around being "or action" without major sacrifices.

t0mmyb0y4474d ago

What game isn't these days. I miss the days when a game made you frustrated and you needed to actually figure out the challenge by thinking.

Benjamski4468d ago

I'm all for challenge but the excessive trial and error of the older hitman games, as much as I cherished it then, make for way too much wasted time. As much as I'm sure I'd still enjoy that now, I don't have that kind of time as an adult now and can't justify putting that much of my time into repetition without getting some serious value out of it. Don't get me wrong, I want the game to be hard and I want my silent assassin runs to be challenging, but not unnecessarily so--or in a way that I'm doing the same thing over and over again only to find a solution that wasn't even remotely intuitive or logical. It sounds like they're aiming for that kind of experience and I have no problems with them making the game more accessible as long as they keep the traditional Hitman-style gameplay in there for the rest of us.

t0mmyb0y4468d ago

Well Said Bubbles Benjamski. I agree. I played the new Deus Ex for about 2 hours on a Saturday night, and felt it was amazing. I don't have 10 min to sit there and talk to some dude though. Here's hoping Hitman is what all the old Hitmanese want.

BlmThug4474d ago (Edited 4474d ago )

*Sigh* They have lost a sale from me. I'll just pick up the MGS HD collection to fill that massive 'stealth genre' hole in me. IO you are the worst kind of sellouts, the ones that still pretend to do it for the original fans, when you arent

DeadIIIRed4474d ago

The worst part for me are the Splinter Cell linear-style levels. The massive levels in the last Hitman really made the game and I was excited to see how big the levels were going to get in the new installment. I hope whoever is responsible is promptly fired and ran out of town.

blackhammer4473d ago

We can only hope that certain features will be optional.

Needs to be a game that punishes you. A game that makes you have to try and try again, to find different ways to kill a man with a lesser of a cost than the last time you tried. It should make you act like a mechanic. Shouldn't have to constantly use a bullet to eliminate your target.

I don't want to have my hand held. I want my ass to be booted when I slip up.

IO Interactive Wants to Develop Multiple James Bond Games; Turned Down Several Other IPs

Hitman developer IO Interactive was approached by several IP holders, but eventually settled with the James Bond IP.

Number1TailzFan169d ago

Interested in seeing how these turn out. An updated Goldeneye style game would be nice if they could take everything good about it but modernise it and expand/make better, without taking away that particular feel it had.

-Foxtrot169d ago (Edited 169d ago )

“with their version of Bond being closer to Daniel Craig’s than Roger Moore’s”

This is disappointing to hear, I liked the Craig films but they made Craig more like a tank, Bourne style, I was hoping for someone who looks like what Flemming envisioned for Bond with his sketch, it’s a video game they could literally do the most accurate Bond ever.

Someone who you’d underestimate, relies on gadgets, his environment and his quick thinking to get out of situations, Craig didn’t really have that.

strayanalog167d ago

Agreed. That "more Craig" comment is sadly what I expected, given that this game was made during and after Craig's tenure. I was hoping for Moore myself, or maybe even Brosnan since his version of Bond was between Moore and Connery.

The Hitman structure they seem to want do with multiple games makes me cautious. I suppose as long as each game can stand on its own - just as the old Bond movies did - all the while giving small tidbits of a larger threat until the ultimate confrontation, then I'll gladly keep backing these games.

IOI's 007 "Looking Very Cool," Project Fantasy "Not Confirmed" To Be Xbox Exclusive

Now, when for years talking with IOI meant talking Hitman, this time around their two other, still under wraps projects were getting closer by the day. And Project Fantasy specifically, which had been linked to Xbox as early as in 2021, saw earlier this summer how the Activision acquisition all but confirmed, or leaked, its future publishing under the Xbox Games Studio logo.

It's been about 20 years since a good James Bond game. Not sure if its the nostalgia but the og Xbox just had banger after banger for the Bond games

Profchaos250d ago

I think it's nostalgia the only two bond games I consider good are Goldeneye and from Russia with love which was an 6th gen game on PS and Xbox (think it skipped GameCube) the last under EA before Activision started making bond of duty games

Hofstaderman250d ago

My favorite is Agent Under Fire.

P_Bomb250d ago (Edited 250d ago )

007 Everything or Nothing was my main! Last 007 I bought/beat was Blood Stone.

terstomp250d ago

From Russia With Love was on the GameCube.
Goldeneye Rogue Agent was on the GameCube.

Battlestar23250d ago

I hope Project Fantasy is exclusive to Xbox and more games become exclusive to Xbox in the next few years as it might get Sony to become a 3rd party publisher and release all their 1st party games on Future Xbox consoles.

thesoftware730250d ago

Battlestar23

Hahahaha, that was a good one.

Vengeance1138250d ago (Edited 250d ago )

Hahahahahahaha 🤣😂 most unrealistic fantasy ever put to words hahahaha
Also ironic since Xbox is pretty much a 3rd party publisher already, not a chance they'll make anymore hardware.

wiz7191250d ago

@Vengence if you think MS will stop making hardware now that’s an unrealistic fantasy 😂😂😂 why would they stop making hardware to solely depend on making money on the competition hardware ?? That’s kind of dumb .. they didn’t buy studios to stop making hardware lol

Vengeance1138250d ago

@wiz

Not sure if you keep up with latest events but Microsofts big push is no console required to play their games. Starfield has a big marketing ad to play straight from Samsung TVs on their hub (no console required) .
Xbox is just a subscription service nothing more. Play it on phones, tablet, PC etc literally no reason in the world for Microsoft to make another console, it's against their whole strategy. Not to mention current Xbox hardware sales are horrendous, can't even crack 30M when Sony is beyond 40M. Nobody needs an Xbox.

wiz7191250d ago

@Vengence what are you talking about ? The Xbox app you have to have a Xbox to use any functionality .. when I stream through the Xbox app it uses My Xbox , I cannot stream anything if my Xbox isn’t connected to the internet. I’m guessing ppl never heard of OPTIONS before SMFH .. Just because someone gives you more options to get into the ecosystem doesn’t mean they will drop their dedicated gaming machine. You think MS will take the same route Stadia did ?? Only fools on N4G believe that .. think about it like this wtf would they stop making hardware to develop for Sony or Nintendo .. Who are worth way less than they are ? They could just out right buy them both lol .. half you ppl on here don’t know wtf y’all be talking about lol you can only stream certain games on mobile and tablets , so you’ll still need a Xbox regardless. It takes consistent work and release of good games to easily increase sales , lol I own all three so I can enjoy everything like a REAL gamer should.

Vengeance1138250d ago (Edited 250d ago )

@wiz
Oh man what an absolute mess of a rant you just vomited lol you really reveal your fanboyism for Xbox. It's incredibly hilarious how you somehow brought up company worth into your unhinged rant like it has any impact on anything. MS has always been worth more than Sony and Nintendo since they entered the industry, how's that working out for them? Oh right last place every generation. Do you know why Gamepass exists? Because Sony beat MS so incredibly badly and humiliated them that they had to think up a whole new way to exist lol 😆
Also buy them?? Do you realize MS did try to buy Nintendo once and Nintendo literally laughed in their face LOL That's how much of a joke MS is. Sony would do the same, Microsoft would have to run out of the meeting room humiliated once again lol. All that money and it's useless to them. How's Bethesda working out? Oh right they haven't moved the needle at all.
Xbox is done making hardware. If they did, it'd be incredibly hypocritical to their own marketing. No console needed just like Starfield. Play on a TV, nobody needs an Xbox.
Go ahead name one game where anyone NEEDS an Xbox to play lol I bet you can't do it.
So adorable lol ohhh a REAL gamer oh wow, we all better watch out for you hahaha ha, big kid in town.

If anything, with the way they are going and what their overall goals seems to be, you have more chance of Xbox becoming third party than Sony

And you know it

MisterZay0000250d ago

LOL! That some weak trolling. Anyways Xbox may not even be around for much longer the way their low sales has been going.

250d ago
ApocalypseShadow250d ago

I actually laughed at this ridiculous nonsense.

tay8701250d ago

Lmao that's not going to happen. You want sony games, buy a playstation or wait for them to come to pc. It's far more likely that xbox will become a 3rd party publishers since they continually finish last place and their push towards gamepass is growing. They will probably end up exiting the console market and become a huge 3rd party publisher.

DarthZoolu250d ago

I’m not excited at all because you’re not going to be able to play it off line and they’re gonna come out with a bunch of different packages that makes the entire game a mess!

CrashMania250d ago

Been a very long time since we got a good 007 game, and I don't count the recent barebones ports of Goldeneye either, I hope it's good.

-Foxtrot250d ago

I really hope they design Bond to look like the classic sketch Flemming did of him

Also I really hope this gets a vocal theme song for the game.

IO Interactive Announces New Studio in Brighton, UK; Will Work on Project 007

Developer IO Interactive, the studio behind Hitman has announced that it has opened a new studio in Brighton, United Kingdom.

Christopher287d ago

I would love a story-driven 007 game with a focus on gadgets and, this is very important, an actually definitive ending to the story and not more 'drag on for five movies/games' thing we've been getting.

Nacho_Z287d ago

Yeah that'd be great. I fancy IO Interactive to be a really good fit for a Bond game.

-Foxtrot287d ago

I’d like to see a Bond closer to the books, even a design that looks like the sketch Flemming did.

Hopefully though it still has a theme song opening

mkis007287d ago

Nah overlaps with perfect dark too much

Sciurus_vulgaris287d ago

The rumoured IO Xbox game is project dragon, not 007.

TheColbertinator287d ago

IO may pull off a big winner here
