In this edition, join OXM editors Ryan McCaffrey and Kevin Smith as we play through and discuss the first half-hour of the upcoming big-world fantasy role-playing game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Do you remember the good old days, when video games put fast hack-and-slashing combat sequences and extensive levelling systems first and a deep narrative with memorable characters second? BigHuge Games certainly banked on gamers holding some kind of nostalgia for those titles of yore with their fantasy RPG Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning.
This is hilarious that i would see an article after I went and re-bought the game and playing it all week! I love the QTEs in this game its satisfying, the combat is fluid where you can switch from weapons to magic so easily, the weapons, armor, quests, character customizations, lore, world, voice acting, are all great this game has almost everything you'd need and want from an RPG!
I really wish there was going to be a KoAR 2!
COG writes - The games of the last generation were amazing and the COGconnected team decided to get together to countdown their favorites. The countdown inches to number 6 and the games are starting to get good... real good.
The journey comes to an end.
Would LOVE to see a sequel to this brilliant game. Wouldn't mind a remake for current gen systems either.
I think EA owns the rights to it now. I loved the game as well. A rare gem overlooked.
Went into a cave for a mission...Mission glitches and I can't start the mission or exit the cave...Auto save and manual saves are within the cave....I messed up so bad I quit. Really good game though.
such a great game, shame about the studio.
to produce something of that quality as their first title, just imagine what they could have done with more experience.
I'll admit I haven't been this amped about a game since...oh yeah, the one I'm playing now, skyrim. But, I am amped that these two games provide a one two punch for an avid rpg fan that I haven't experienced maybe ever. Also it helps quell my disappointment in regards to swtor, because I don't hav a of to run it & really wanna play it. 4 more weeks and counting.
If it is an awesome as Dungeon Siege III I'll take a look.
For some reason I thought about this type of game (3rd person action RPG) as a spin off in the Mass Effect Universe. More aliens on screen, vehicles and AoE skills, generally more intense powers faster player and squad movement and generally larger battles. Hmmm...
Looks like fable had a huge influence on the art direction and interaction. There is a lot of detail they had to skip in order to reach the outdoors with in that time slot. I don't rush RPG's so it was a bit un-nerving to watch. I still appreciate what they have shown and hope that they give a demo. I could be done in the same manner (with the 30min time limit).
I've been waiting for this game since I saw it about 6 months ago. Anticipating it even more than skyrim.
Didn't know Rolston was involved till about a month or so ago. What has me excited is R.A. Salvatore writing the story and Todd Mcfarlan doing the art work. Rolston is just icing on the cake.
Indeed a day one for me.
