After the polarizing FF13, should FF7 be remade?

They wanted a full game, something that Square has said time and again that they had no plans for. And now, after the polarizing Final Fantasy XIII and the abysmal Final Fantasy XIV, fans are begging for a remake.

Yes it should. To make up for FF13 and FF14, if SE wants to get their fans confidence back. They have to make it.

But am worried they will mess it up :(

Anyone else agree?

TenSteps4484d ago

I don't think a remake will bring fan's confidence in SE back. To gain confidence they have to show they can create the "new" without making it terrible.

Now I'm not saying they shouldn't remake 7, 8, 9 etc. In fact I think they should. Simply for SE to remember the fundamentals that made FF great.

-Mika-4484d ago

No they shouldn't make it. Like all remakes from music, tvshows, movies and games. They are always hated by the fans and it because they always compare the remake to the original. Same will happen with ff7. Fans will cry and complain saying the original was better than the remake because of stupid reasons.

Then we will see articles on n4g with titles like "5 reasons why ff7 is better than the remake" or " Will ff15 restore fans confidence in square". It will just be an never ending cycle for square.

So overall no they should not remake the game because fans will mostly likely dislike it because of nostalgia.

Snookies124484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

They should make it, I agree with you TenSteps. I believe in remaking FF7, 8, 9, or even 6. It will take them back to their roots (if done right) and will possibly give them back some of what they've lost in these last few years.

Perhaps seeing their creation and going through it again, they will come to understand what was so great about it and follow suit with future titles in the franchise.

If nothing else, don't worry about going full HD with everything, just make better character models and backgrounds. Think Bionic Commando ReArmed. That's what they should go for.

blumatt4484d ago

I'd rather see a FF8 remake myself. FF 8 was miles better than FF7 in my opinion. The love story was engrossing and the story compelling.

Until then I can't wait for FF Versus 13.

RedDevils4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

this look some hentai game with big breast LOL

Celeras4484d ago

All excellent points. Unfortunately, I only clicked this link to look at Tifa.

The Killer4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

its funny how they make female video game and anime characters these days having a breast like a milking cows.

poor females these days, they have a target image which they can never reach even with silicone operations.

this is all part of the international zionist scheme to pervert the youth.

ff14 was terrible indeed, ff13 was quite fun yes it was linear but i really liked the story. and i tought this was sorted..ff7 isnt gonna happen..it takes way to long to remake ff7 they should focus on getting go on and make new games..ff7 is made it was a big it..there is no need to make a remake out of that game.. it was on top in its time..now its time for a new ff7 and no i don't mean a remake.

BakedGoods4482d ago

Interesting point. TAGGED.

dark-hollow4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

i seriously cant believe it!
ONE game (maybe two or three but ff13 is getting the most of the backlash) that the fans didnt like so much then its all fail for square enix!!
ffxiii-2 is getting a lot of praise lately.
actually, ff13 wasnt that bad either!

the major flaw with ff13 is that you have to work your way up till the game gets enjoyable.

most people played it for 5-10 hours then claim that it have bad story, gameplay mechanics but those two improve very much as you progress in the game.
or even worse! people hear the complaints of others and start believing it even without completing the game themselves!

after proximately 20 hours, the games becomes so great! the battle system is just one of the best in the whole franchise.

if only the game was this enjoyable from the start it would be on my top 5 ff sequels.

Imalwaysright4484d ago

"after proximately 20 hours,..." Yeah... no -_-

RedDead4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

The game lasts 40 hours if you want to finish it and not do side battles(I would say quests but they aren't). "first 20 hours", how can you let a game away with that? I COULD FORGIVE EVEN 5 HOURS, BUT fu**iNG 20???

pinkyxyz4484d ago

the reason why it fails is because you have to wait 20-25 hours just to enjoy the game! How is that not a major deal breaker when it comes to games in general?

Ranma14484d ago

Am annoyed that SE seems to be taking FFD into the action RPG direction.

But SE is wrong "Turn based RPGs made in Japan outsell their Action counterpart"

Source: http://n4g.com/news/915351/...

Godmars2904484d ago

No. SE hasn't shown any real ability with HD consoles. If they do something with it, it should be a PSP/DS level game.

And even then I'd be worried about the quality.

Ranma14484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

Thats what i worry about also.

SE has shown time and time again, they are incapable of making a single great console game this gen.

If they remade it, am worried they will add the auto-battle feature of FF13, LOL !!

p.s in second post above, when i said FFD, i meant FF

silkrevolver4484d ago

Nobody complained about the graphics of XIII, all complaints were leveled towards design, story, etc. They handled the HD side of the era brilliantly, they just faltered with the whole game aspect.

Megaman_nerd4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

HD needs more detail so towns and stuff take more work. FFXIII-2 now has towns but you can't enter to any of the buildings so they are more like mini dungeons with some useless NPC's. =/

Are you getting the image of the problems HD causes to lazy devs like Square? Here is Kitase explaining it himself: http://www.oxm.co.uk/36521/...

Pozzle4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

After the bland, generic mess that was Dirge of Cerberus, I'm not sure Square Enix are even capable of making a decent FFVII remake that stays true to the original game.

Was everyone who worked on DoC completely unfamiliar with EVERYTHING about Final Fantasy VII?! Where was the charm? The humor? The beautiful locations? The interesting characters? D:

D3mons0ul4484d ago

Only if Nomura plans on leading the project. We already know Kitase has stabbed FF in the back and is no longer credible. Wada is dragging the entire company down with him in his push for westernization. Sakaguchi left to form another company.

Who else is left?

iamtehpwn4484d ago

Kitase is part of what made FF so great. The person you mean to be blame is Toriyama, but not Kitase.

tiffac0084484d ago

Toriyama is the reason I don't want SE to remake FFVII anymore because the project may end up in his hands and that would be the end of it. -_-

D3mons0ul4484d ago

I wish that were true but I have to lay some of the blame on Kitase. He was the one who came out and said FFXIII-2 was inspired by western titles. Toriyama is more worthy of the blame and I really hope that Kitase was just the unfortunate messenger in this instance.

Wada is dragging everybody down with him. He should be in another business.

XIII had flaws, but people misinterpreted those flaws.
The inspiration they getting from western titles is the aspect of "Non-linearity". Linearity was the wrong criticism to make of FFXIII--Lack of Variety was the problem with FFXIII.
Even if XIII wasn't linear, it would still be a giant empty field of Monsters.

XIII lacked variety, there was nothing to do outside of combat, and even the combat lacked variety. Final Fantasy X was also incredibly linear but had plenty of variety in every aspect such as Blitzball, Towns, Battles, How you'd move along the sphere Grid, The Calm Lands, etc.

Out of all those airship sequences in the game, at least one of them should've playable.

People say "Linearity" as if it's a terrible thing no matter what. No, in fact, Linearity and Open World should never be equated with good and bad. Linearity has a specific Design purpose as does having an Open World. And with that said, Linearity done right is Final Fantasy X. Linearity done wrong is Final Fantasy XIII.

With choosing a more Linear design philosophy for example, you can set a specific pace and tone to whats going on. You know what the player will be experiencing at any given point. This allows you to perfectly place everything, so that the games pacing and story flows perfectly. That's what X did perfectly. XIII, instead was a series of tubes and hallways.

jneul4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

Final Fantasy X Also had a very well thought out storyline, and character development compared to XIII, they both was linear so I really want to know what SE's excuse is for the lack of a good storyline and nect to no character development, and I don't want to hear about this westernisation rubbish, westerners loved ff before XIII, now not so much!!
Edit: Anyone play on crisis core, that was the closest i got to being back in the ff7 world, tbh it was linear like FFX/ XIII, but the story was brilliant and i cried at the ending, zack is now my hero

Knightofelemia4484d ago (Edited 4484d ago )

The only way SquareEnix will play the FF7 remake card is if and this is me guessing. Is if FF13-2 bombs in North America and if FFVS13 which is a game I am waiting for happenes to bomb in Japan and in North America. Thats when SquareEnix will bring forward the FF7 remake trump card. They know there is a demmand for that game to be remaid fans want it and they know it will sell. They will produce the game and sell FF7 to recoup their losses. Quite honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they have FF7 half way finished and stored somewhere waiting to see the daylight.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens529d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens528d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK21218d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

MrNinosan8d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens528d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens528d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos9d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani8d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum9d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman9d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim8d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

I disagree Batman
