Potential for PS Vita not realized, mirrors PS3 and PSP

For those awaiting the new PS Vita the news that it might not be doing as well as expected may not come as a shock. When the PSP and PS3 first came out the figures then show that they also had a slow start, so we thought it would be wise to look at a few views that may help us with a general perspective.

How could its potential possibly be realized if it hasn't even launched worldwide yet? The PS3 has been around since 2006 and it STILL hasn't reached its potential. The article isn't bad. The inclusion of a 4GB card in every box is a good idea...but the title should be changed. It doesn't make any sense.

I agree with title, although the PS Vita is a little worrying for some people, first up is the price and Japan launch is nowhere near the access it should have been, second is the battery life, which is a joke.

You mean the price of which the industry overwhelmingly approved at E3? The price which everyone agreed hit the sweet spot?

It's absurd to listen to people harp over the same price about which praises were sung mere months before. You may not have been one of those and if not then you were in the far, far, far, far minority.

EDIT: I agree with the idea that such articles writing on the bathroom walls before launch is ridiculous. Ridiculous as in such pieces are deserving of ridicule. The only purpose such slander provides is to fully identify authors and websites whose poor opinions and moronic editorial practices need be avoided.

Back then, the 3DS was also $250 and so VITA looked very attractive in comparison. Now however, it is the most expensive handheld in the market and the expensive memory cards were a very greedy move on SONY's part. I hope you can take your SONY shades off to see that.

It's not "greed", it's the only way they can recoup some of the losses they're taking when they sell each Vita. Do you think a machine as advanced and packed with hardware as the Vita actually costs $249 to design, manufacture and distribute per unit?

It's the same as new and overpriced controllers at a console launch or other peripherals. Admittedly, some form of internal storage would have made it more attractive when you consider it effectively requires such, but them's the breaks. Industry/consumers demanded $249 and they got it.

The battery life is just the same if not better than the 3DS. So, that's not really arguable there. If people were angry about battery life the 3DS would have done worse in sales as well.

The only reason it's not doing (as well) as everyone expected, is because the games that are out for it are geared more towards the western market. That is all. Once released overseas it will doing amazingly, and when some more japanese-style games come out for it sales -will- pick up over there.

I got my vita too. Its epic! And the battery life with both systems running at everything on high is proof that my 3DS purchase was a waste. But I still love my 3DS. But my psv is soo much better

the ps vita has the best battery life of its compeditors, with full blast a 3DS can do up to a max 3 hours, a iphone ..if u where to play infinity blade 2 or whatever that new kickass iOS game is called the iphone battery wouldnt last longer than 2-3 hours tops

i just got back from watching one on youtube, nice fella he talks about the ps vita and shows gameplay, one of his latest videos he talked about battery life.. he had the vita on ABSOLUTE max settings..brightness max 3G on wifi on bluetooth on and he also played online..he got 4 hours and 23 minutes out of it and this was max, with his normal setting where he had 50% brightness and bluetooth of he got over 6 hours battery life on the vita.

in this time handhelds, mobiles.. portable whatever..rarly gets more than a couple of hours if u play demanding games on it, a laptop..gaming there gives u 2-4 hours if u got it maxed out, 3ds gives like 3 smartphones gives 2-5 hours..the vita has a 4-6+ hours gaming depending on ur settings..don't give me that battery life BS.. yes the DSi and DS lite and psp had more battery..but those where lower tech..outdated tech..u won't find a handheld/portable device made 2011 or later that pulls out more than 2- 6 hours. the vita battery is fine. and have u considered thinking about what power the vita has? ofc it uses battery!...

If enough US & European people start canceling pre-orders because it seems as though a price cut is coming it will help force a price cut. I was burned by the 3DS price cut and don't want to do that again. Seriously considering canceling on Amazon. The lower the launch sales the more likely a lower price or inclusion of the memory card.

man, look at vita, i don't have one, but it must be a tremendous and incredible piece of hardware.

i tried 3ds, a little game with some airplanes, i played with the 3d button, it was ugly and my eyes were begging me to stop.
i used to like nintendo, long time ago, but now, with their 120th version of mario kart, super mario, and the 450 different(or same) versions of "pokemon super green plastic" version, i don't need a console with the same games and gameplay, they only milk the cow, that's all.

vita's specs are incredible, and when we see the first games released, it's hard to imagine what developers will be able to give us, with that oled touch screen, not even talking about the rear touch surface.

people are tired of nintendo (look at wii, no good first party games, shovelware fest, apart a couple of good games, all the people i know, but i mean, ALL, parents that offered a wii to their 6 yo kid, and other people, from 12yo to 40, they used their wii, let's say, one or 2 months, but then, everybody stopped using it, it simply collects dust, everywhere. a good friend of mine bought one to his son, played a couple of times with the titles bundled, and then, is having a great time with the ps3, playing cars 2 and other games. he never turned the wii on, again)

i believe people will start to realize that vita is the portable console to buy, there are already good games for everybody, even uncharted for fps/adventure style, maybe it just lacks some good monster capture games, racing games like mario kart (modnations is coming, ps3 version was excellent, if they keep the play create share stuff, the game will perfectly fit the vita hardware, people will be able to play against other people, on tracks made by other people, etc. it could be perfect, they just need to add some more bombs or other things, ps3 version was a bit limited on that side.

for me , the only thing missing is the possibility to connect the vita to a tv, using a mini hdmi out. and that would make a perfect media player, for divx, audio, etc, if showed on the tv.

but i guess sony prefers to sell a ps3 for that purpose, so people don't just buy a vita and play it on a big screen. that's why we can't connect the vita to a tv.

so yes, just like wii stopped selling well since a while, mainly because everybody already had a wii, and people became interested on hd consoles, i think people will be tired of playing in low res the same old games, on ds/3ds, and will become interested in vita. just add/give some skype/video chat functions while playing, to Japanese people, and some nice games, the vita will start selling like hot cakes, there.

it's just a pity stupid articles from stupid media written by stupid people about the vita failing or don't even being sold in usa anymore, people that must get paid to write such bullshit, it's a pity those articles are starting to show off, just like they did, for the ps3.

I loled at this. Who in the hell uses kindle and the ipad for intense gaming? The 3DS and PS vita are going to do well as they don't upgrade their hardware every single year. Shoot I keep hearing rumors about the iPhone 5 and ipad 3. Makes me not want an apple product for awhile.

I was asking myself why there is no hdmi port on the vita.
I guess if there was one,it would be nice to be able to play DivX,mkv and other videos,on a big screen,using the hdmi. That would make people really interested on those features,and maybe that would be a big reason to hackers,to hack the console,and be able to use kind of media player, like xbmc.

So no hdmi,no media player functions and no connection to the tv for watching videos.

Ok,there are other reasons that will make hackers work 24/7 like,for example, homebrew,which means:being able to download a copy of the game and play on the vita,totally free

Sigh. It is depressing that people want the VITA to fail so badly. When the Dreamcast died did anyone rejoice? i was so afraid when there was the geohot stories, and failoverflow decrypting the rsa stuff.
i thought that the ps3 was cracked for good.fortunately, that didn't happen.

today, there are still ps3 isos available for downloading on direct download websites. but people must keep their 3.56 firmware, can't do online, etc.maybe that represents 20-30'000 people,or a few more. a good game, if it sells 1 million copies, it's not that "bad", for studios, if maybe 50000 people don't pay for it. and if the game is not great, not many people will download it, or if they do, they won't be playing the game of the year.

i hope they protected vita so it stays uncracked. and i hope the ps4 will do the same.

no cracked console means : studios can be sure they will make some money. and if they do so, they will make other games.sony will make money, and we, gamers, we will have great games to play.

it's sad so many people want their consoles hacked, so they can play for free(definition of homebrew), without realizing if everybody play for free, studios will stop their activities, and there won't be no games to play.

if only people could stop 5 minutes and think about that...

if we can get uncharted games, god of war games, infamous games, etc, it's because there are studios making those games. with piracy, no more games to play, it's that simple.

one that was really happy with ps3 being hacked, was microsoft, for sure. even if hacking make people buy consoles, that doesn't make people buy games. and with no games, no studios, no consoles.

so please, sony, protect your vita, protect ps4 10 times better than ps3,add a unique serial number/hash code/ to each game, so the same game (boxed game) can't be used on 2 different systems. if someone manages to hack the ps4, it won't be possible to rip a game, and let people use the same serial number on several hundred thousand different consoles. if the same number is detected, let's say 3 times,maybe someone sold the game. but if the same serial is detected 20 times, just block that game on all systems, using an online update, or when installing a new game, update that serials list.also, whenever a game is played on the ps4 for the first time, if there is an internet connection, track the system id, and the serial number of the game, the date, etc.

if someone hacks ps4, and without connecting it to internet, playing another new game would update the ps4 database, of the forbidden serial numbers, and bang, impossible to play all the previously blocked/pirated games.

and if someone manages to generate serial numbers, since those aren't allowed on the ps4, the game won't launch.

and i don't care if i have to enter a 20 digit code, the first time i put the game in my system. it's not the end of the world, doing that.

so please, sony, protect your baby. i want my future ps4 to stay unhacked, so studios keep making great games, so we, and i, at the end, can buy them, and have countless hours of fun.
