Championship Round- Best Zelda Ever: Ocarina vs Skyward vs Wind Waker [TNE]

Finally, YOU will help decide which game is the best Zelda of All Time at The Nintendo Enthusiast. After three previous rounds, the competition has been whittled down to the remaining three: Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, and.... Wind Waker?

Don’t ask me how it happened but somehow Wind Waker has snuck into the final round! I’m not kidding. We received 262 votes and Skyward Sword and Wind Waker are tied in a dead heat. I honestly didn’t see Wind Waker pulling off a win against Twilight Princess and then a tie with Skyward Sword. Is it really so beloved?

Does it really matter to anyone what others think the best Zelda game is?

Lord_Sloth4494d ago

Nope, because my favorites are Majora's Mask and A Link to the Past. I don't care what any1 else says.

Some like the original the most, others OoT, some SS, and others WW. We've all got our own opinions.

Pozzle4494d ago

My favorite is Majora's Mask too! I loved the story, the characters, the creepy atmosphere. I loved being able to do a side-quest for one character over the three days, then reversing time and doing different side-quests for different characters over three days again.

I might get disagrees for this, but I thought OoT was kinda...bland by comparison. It was still a great game, but it didn't seem to have the charm and character-driven plot that Majora's Mask had.

bozebo4494d ago

MM was win, like OOT + 1 but without the initial charm. I would say MM is a better game overall but OOT deserves to be the fav.
I didn't like WW and havn't played the Wii ones yet (that box still lives for smash bros and mario kart to me, no time to grab it for engrossing single player yet)

Not really.

I just like talking about Zelda.

juegosmajicos4493d ago

Sure, I think it does. We all might be unrelenting on our opinions of the different Zelda games, but when we're forced to choose between two Zelda games we like, we're likely to start thinking deeply about why we would choose one over the other, which always leads to a gratifying better understanding of our hobby.

For example, I was forced to choose between Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword in this final round, and it wasn't an easy choice. Ultimately, I decided on Skyward Sword because, even though Ocarina of Time was more than a masterful title when it came out, the scope of its design is less impactful and meaningful to me now than Skyward Sword's. From this point on, I want Nintendo NOT to try and do what Ocarina of Time did anymore, but to evolve from and improve the template they set down with Skyward Sword.

I think the fact that these tournaments can force us to think at a deeper level of the games we like, as well as reveal to us what likes we share with other gamers, more than validates their existence.

Menashe4493d ago

I should quote what you just said in the next tourney. Well said.

bwazy4494d ago

Out of the two, The Windwaker.

Of all time? Tied between Windwaker/Majoras Mask and A Link to the Past.

Neko_Mega4494d ago

Zelda 2 and Zelda Ocarina Of Time.

Menashe4494d ago

I happened to have liked Twilight Princess better than Wind Waker although Wind Waker had an awesome style that felt like I was playing a cartoon. I haven't finished Skyward Sword to say whether I like it better than Ocarina of Time or not but I'll finish soon and then I'll vote.

I liked Majora's Mask and I'm a big fan of its creepiness and darkness, but overall I though Ocarina of Time was a better game.

The original zelda is still the best to me. I remember seeing that gold cart when i was a kid. It made me feel like i was about to play something special (and it was). No other zelda game has given me that feeling.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64122d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga122d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic121d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits122d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake122d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - A Legend 25 Years in the Making

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time debuted 25 years ago, forever changing the face of video games and becoming a legend of its own.

Number1TailzFan154d ago

I used a guide to beat part of it but some of the rest myself, still enjoyed it regardless. Too bad they didn't stick with this kind of gameplay for the rest of the series as I would prefer it over what they're doing now.

TheBrainZ154d ago

A definitive moment in video game history. Played it countless times, and Zelda was the best reason to own an N64.

FinalFantasyFanatic154d ago

I played through OoT so many times on the 64, then I bought it on the 3DS before the Eshop shut down. I wish we could have a Zelda collection like we did for Mario, I still can't believe that never happened.
