Make it easy to play with friends online...

crofterz4513d ago

But surely then you loose some of the charm in the game's difficulty? Demon's Souls was never meant to be played with friends, so why should Dark Souls or a sequel be the same? Got to say though the ability to actually play online AT ALL is nice. Hopefully they won't need a patch to fix that if another game comes out.

ANYWAY. Nice little article :)

It'd be nice if the combat system was better. Making it easier to join friends online to share the memories of being brutalised is a nice idea too.

I thought the combat system was excellent. Room for improvement, sure.

I played and loved Dark Souls but never played Demon Souls. Would I still enjoy Demon Souls with them having shut the Demon Souls servers down? (I think I remember hearing that anyways)

servers are still up go get it soon and you will be able to play "online", they will support it until somewhere in 2012 at the least.

and yes you will enjoy it, i still prefer demons souls over dark souls.

And I prefer Dark Souls over Demons Souls.. though I'm likely to be in the minority there.

Exploring in Dark Souls was infinitely more satisfying to me.

Hopefully not too many spoilers...

Well, the complaint about black phantoms is unfounded, and I'm learning this from experience right now... you can only invade your level and above (up to 700??) using the red eye orb & cracked variant. Now, if you use some other methods, ie Forest & Darkmoons, then level doesn't matter, but you essentially opt in by being in those areas. Gravelord I'm not sure, I've only run into 1 in 100+ hours of play. Now, would I be more for using the Orb to invade people close to my level range like Co-Op? Yes. I hate warping into someone who is triple my level and getting 1 shot. Very annoying.

On the flip side, getting invaded is part of the game. I had a spirited discussion with someone the other night that Quit to Dashboard when he saw he was losing. A Darkmoon had invaded and then I invaded, his argument was it wasn't fair, I told him to man up, deal with the game mechanics and take the defeat like a man (the bonfire was RIGHT THERE as well). I also had an instance where I made it to the 3rd Bonfire in Anor Londo (past the archer Silver Knights! Horrible!) and before I could rest I was invaded, lost 70k souls, and had to try again (which I failed). Was I mad? Yep! But its part of the game!

Side Quests? No! No additional side quests! Not in the traditional sense at least. Soltaire, the Catarina knight duo, Quelana, almost all the NPCs already have interactions & "quests" that you can do with and for them that lead to deeper immersion. Take round about actions, different things happen (ie Soltaire). I think they did an excellent job with NPC interaction.

I can see where he is coming from with the combo system. Possibly add a different style of attack if you go Regular-Regular-Heavy attack, or any 3 type combination. That would be very interesting, would break some monotony in combat, and also add an additional level of skill to PvP.

The world is amazing as it is, I don't want a traditional "hub" that warps to different areas. If I want to run from the Bed of Chaos to the bottom of the Crystal Caves, I can! In the next game, if they want to make it bigger, then I'm all for it. I would prefer it not being sandbox though, this style of "open-world" is amazing. Also, nothing is holding you back from tackling the 4 Kings first, before ringing any bells, except individual skill & experience.

I am very much looking forward to the next installment of the Souls series. Hopefully the good sales figures on both platforms compells From Software to continue the tradition!

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
