DICE has admitted that porting Battlefield 3 and its engine Frostbite 2 to console was "a big challenge".

lol what does last of us have to do with the frostbite 2 engine being ported to the console? yeah, last of us will look good just like very ND game... but I highly doubt it will have full building destructibility along with 64 player MP and 60 fps.... -_-

The trailer we have seen looks decent, but its not actual game play footage, it is a cutscene. It is way to early to be making these types of comparisons. Remember the Dead Island trailer?

Problem with using Last of Us as his example is that it's not released, yet. Heck, there hasn't even been any non-cut scene in-game footage.

64 player servers are for having fun, nothing more. if you want to have really good game try 15-32 player servers.

60 fps? try 90-140 on ultra.

Some people like to think that if the PS3 can produce visuals like Last of Us or Uncharted 3, that any game can look as good if a developer has enough time. Fact of the matter is, Uncharted 3 is optimized especially well for a single console by a team that knows the PS3 inside and out, while Battlefield 3 has to deliver virtually the same experience across three platforms.

Well yes Uncharted might be optimized for a single console however look at what it has to offer. Its a extremely linear game with no destructable environments, MP which has about 5 vs 5 (compared to BF's 12 vs 12 on console).

I think only a fanboy would be comparing the 2 games then saying Dice doesnt know how to optimize. When ND or any Sony first party dev releases a open world game and it actually looks better than BF3 then you can start judging Dice.

We have seen it and it's just a pre rendered trailer USING ITS GAME ENGINE...

Until "Last of us" runs an almost full destructible environment using all real time lighting and effects all in real time and not pre baked/pre calculated like uncharted 3 in most cases and has 64 player capability using various vehicles in very large environments and is NOT LINEAR unlike what the FROST BITE 2.0 ENGINE ON THE P.C OFFERS FOR BF3...YOUR TROLLING POINT IS VERY USELESS AND POINTLESS.

I got xplornet as internet. Does that answer your question? Not 100% of the world has unlimited crazy high speed internet. And id hate for games to hit 20 dvd discs to install a game on my pc.

Its coming one day Firetaw. Don't let those disagrees get ya thinking Blu-Ray won't hit PC platform. Although it might face some strong criticism from Microsoft. Either way its at least 5+ years away from making any real dent in the PC market. DVD took over from CDs its only natural a bigger medium will take over from DVD. Its to early to know if its Blu-Ray though.

Yes digital exists these days, but damn a 22 GB download on 3 Mbps.

Next Generation starts 2012 with Wii U like it or not every developer will get a SDK for Wii U at some point in 2012/2013. Same for other new consoles.

Thing is an engine like Frostbite 2 doesn't have to become Frostbite 3.0 to show off on the new platforms. Which is a very big plus for EA/DICE.

There's no point right now, as we fully install our games to drive anyway. The only benefit to Blu-ray would be saving a one-time disk swap or two during installation (maybe 10-20 seconds of saved time per install, which doesn't justify the cost). It's not like consoles, where spreading a game across multiple, smaller disks means having players do swaps during actual playtime.

I don't see PC games moving to Blu-ray until it takes 3+ DVDs to hold an average game. Much like when we transitioned from CDs to DVDs back in ~2005-6

like the tv missile not hitting the target still and rather flyes through? or when you shoot the tv missile it hits your own chopper and TKs the pilot? now after the patch the tv missile lags in movement totally, sometimes needs to jump 3x to actually jump over an obstacle, random crashes, spawning on top of the jets, and it goes on and on and on... just look at the battlelog forums. All these bugs makes it sometimes difficult to enjoy the game...

bf3 on both consoles looks like shit compared to the pc version. sure it runs at 60 fps but to only do that was to make the game look like a jaggy mess. bf bad company 1&2 looked way better. i still enjoy playing the game. and yes EA should of done better for the consoles, why? it sells more, thats where profit is made.

As much as I love BF3 on consoles(PS3 to be specific). I really wish they could have gone with 32 players and a few more vehicles. I never expected it to look as good as the pc version, but I was hoping for a closer player count considering the compromises made to get it on consoles. Maybe we will get a proper version with the launch of the 7th(8th?) generation of consoles. I'd buy it again with the promise of 60fps and 64 players. But make no mistake, what they've done with what they have, I'm more than pleased.
