STALKER 2 cancelled as GSC Game World faces closure?

After initially denying reports that STALKER 2 been cancelled as its studio faces closure, GSC Game World appears to have confirmed its demise...

Bad language...NOT REALLY cause i've seen worse language in articles, this thread, and why did i get 2 disagrees? Seriously I only posted FACTS and i informed the public FIRST that Dmitri Bourkovsk does not have a connection to STALKER 2 before they updated it on N4G!

I'm so sick of the Haters on this website that it's become very annoying. If you don't like my post then don't read them but many people like the information i provide.

I provided more information than the original article and once again I always provide links and proof and those links are the best sources of STALKER info that you can get from the Ukrainian Dev team.

Again NOTHING has been confirmed, NO official statements from any GSC employee and until i get an official Tweet from GSC or an official response from Sergei or Oleg then I'm sticking to this news being just a Rumor!

Last information I got was that GSC Game World is in FACT closing their doors and STALKER 2 will be on hold................

Cause they are moving to a New Building!!! Once they get everything set-up development will resume but the game is still on target for a 2012 release date.

Well actually I do it's because they are morons. But don't worry, it's not just N4G - like 70% of the world's population are morons; most of them have an excuse though but not the ones here on N4G.

More onto the point, I'm so glad they are not actually closing ^_^ (are they? I am confuzzled)

I loved Cossacks but couldn't get into Stalker (had a bad graphics card so I borrowed it but I can max it easily now). Just as soon as I am 100% sure they aren't closing I will buy Stalker (don't want the money going to some evil publisher that ends up grabbing the IP).

edit: Oh... Stalker 2 is multiplat? Damn it's probably going to be rubbish then. Time will tell though...

Also, "heart broken", what? He said they AREN'T closing. Though word around the net seems to say they are :/ I'm still not sure.

doubt it's because of them going multi.i think they have been in some financial trouble for quite some time..4A games are not some big name studio and they are releasing a sequel to the cult hit Metro.

The Metro team worked on the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and then branched off to create 4A. Maybe those GSC developers could goto 4A and start up a team to finish S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Maybe get backing from THQ to make it happen and ensure it goes multiplat.

Financial failures are more common on consoles than PC tbh - especially since the uptake in digital distribution. (Stalker came about a little before digital distribution exploded but it was a huge financial success without DRM)

Ah, well... there have been some blundering MMO failures but that is because the games themselves were bad not because they were on PC.

# Staff costs are lower (dont need experts in a particular platform, there is a massive pool of PC programmers across the globe)
# Distribution costs are lower
# No platform fees to be paid
# Largest possible target audience (but it's then reduced a fair whack because ~80% of people pirate the game)
# Audience (in general) isn't shallow and will actually buy games with bad graphics (so small developers aren't shoved around by big name developers)

Except it sold really well on PC. More so than some Console only games. It may be just a ploy to get in good with another company that has publisher backing. For some reason the Stalker Games always had trouble finding a publisher for their games.

For those who haven't noticed, this article has been constantly updating with new information. When it first hit the front page, the guy's comments weren't included at all, just the initial tweets and official comments from GSC. The subsequent tweet was added to the article as 'confirmation', then subsequently corrected, but the rumour existed long before that tweet even appeared.

As a gamer who's played many different types of games, I just know these things. I've seen many videos of I am Alive, and the gameplay and overall presentation of the game is just very poor. And I'm talking about the close to final product. I mean, if you think about it, there are so many games out there these days that have lots to offer. So why would anyone who cares about their money choose "I am Alive" over them?

Even as a downloadable game, I am Alive has to prove itself worthy of my time and money. But it has failed to do so.

For all games as a whole I'd say, not matter what console/handheld/device you may get your 'fix' from. We are ALL gamers, from web browser flash games(loved those) to Xboxes, PlayStations, Wiis to PSPs and DS' to iOS and Android devices to OnLive to the more hardcore PC gaming to any type of gaming out there. It's a very very sad day for all of us, even when we lose a franchise that may be exclusive to a platform or that may have never seen the light on half of the platforms I just mentioned. It's a loss :(
