Wow, what a difference 5 years makes. Skyrim looks amazing.

kcuthbertson4523d ago

I know right?

I love how some people were saying that Oblivion looked just as good lol.

Tired4523d ago

Playing it I kept saying I would have thought there would have been more of a graphical leap since the last one.

I guess nostalgia has hazed my memories somewhat...as it's quite clearly leaps and bounds better.

I sit humbled and corrected.

poindat4523d ago

To be fair, if you're playing Oblivion on a PC with HD texture mods and environment mods (as it should be played, you're missing out on a good chunk of the Oblivion experience otherwise IMO), it looks a hell of a lot closer to Skyrim than these shots do. But of course if you're comparing vanilla graphics, especially on consoles, Oblivion is going to look like garbage compared to Skyrim.

Coffin874522d ago

@hawkboi
Couldn't agree more.
I mean, I did play it highly modded .. more loaded environment cells, high range detailed trees/bushes, high-res textures for the distant ground ... but still.
Skyrim really seems like it's hand-crafted inch by inch. It is just amazing. Still loving it 100%. ^^

Joe Bomb4523d ago

Skyrim looks great, look at those textures on the rock, holy $hit!

Jake_Butler4523d ago

Yeah what a great looking game. I can't wait to but this one I hear it's one of the best games ever.

SilentNegotiator4523d ago

Indeed. I played through it recently. Pop-in and loading times are probably the biggest issue, though, aside from just not looking very good these days.

hotskys4523d ago

It was the best looking of it's time.

You should never look back on games that were the best of their time and call them bad.

Your standards are just getting higher.

MoreRPG4523d ago

i remember the awesome view when you get out the sewers for the first time in Oblivion

SilentNegotiator4523d ago (Edited 4523d ago )

And again when they did it in Fallout 3....

Simco8764523d ago

Oblivion by a landslide here....

Why even make this article? lol

If this is true, I hope it leads to Morrowind getting remade next.

-Foxtrot3d ago

I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6

TheColbertinator2d ago

Well said. Exactly my thoughts too.

Tedakin3d ago

Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.

isarai3d ago

Yeah, 1st thing that came to my mind too, although i CAN see it being likely for ease if use, but it's not going to run very well if so

Tacoboto3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I'd wonder if it would just be exploiting Unreal for graphics but the underlying engine/logic is still the original framework.

Like how we had the graphical remakes of Halo Anniversary, Tomb Raider I-III, and Demon's Souls.

Could also end up a disaster like the GTA Trilogy

mkis0072d ago

I have heard that too but even if it's modified isnt arkham knight UE?

Fragslayer2d ago

"remake will run both an Unreal Engine 5 project and the old Oblivion project. For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay and physics are still done on the original Oblivion engine"

So with this logic it'll run just fine using UE5 tool sets on top of Gamebryo's engine or maybe even Creation Engine, who knows.

Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.

Fragslayer2d ago

Yeah it could use some tuning for sure hence the need for a Remake not a Remaster. I'm surprised it's even a conversation within them group which makes me skeptical it's Oblivion. I wouldn't say they shouldn't level up at all though maybe just a leave them a couple levels behind to appease the masses.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast18d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22918d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko18d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave18d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan18d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
