Arkham City vs Uncharted 3 for Game of The Year 2011 Can Drake Takedown Batman again?

Lets not hope Metacritic leads people on to what game should get GOTY. I personaly believe in my opinion that Uncharted 3 is better then Batman Arkham City, I just found there was things in AC that Rocksteady had still not got right and it wasn't as perfect as most reviews had said....yet on Metacritic it's a 93 vs a 96 score

As I was saying on another article Eurogamers score set off a wave of troll reviews because it was a "cool" thing to do at the time so they could get more hits for there websites. The same could of been done for Batman if it happened to that game aswell.

I just don't understand how some of the bad scores...sorry not bad but 8/10 scores for Batman havent been shown on Metacritic but the ones for Uncharted have been. I mean when you compare the games on the site where one has 60+ reviews some which are average to a game which only has 20+ all possitive then you know which one is going to be rated higher.

Have you seen most of the user reviews on Uncharted 3 anyway it's ridiculous, just like Uncharted 2 people can admit it's a good game yet are giving the game 0 marks because it's "overrated", because their trolls or just there obvious fanboys who donm't want to see a Sony exclusive take GOTY.

And as good as arkham city is, uncharted 3 is in a whole different level. And I agree, the users review of uncharted 3 are outright ridiculous on metacritic! are the highest rated games this year, so these two are prime candidates..but Skyrim and Zelda SS left..

Ratings dont mean anything. Look at fallout 3. It won more GOTY's than GTA IV the highest rated game this gen.

The games considered will be Batman, Uncharted, Skyrim, Portal 2 and maybe Zelda.

Gears of War 3 may also be included.

I love the Zelda games, but they don't tend to get the recognition as they used to

My vote goes to Uncharted because even though I loved batmans gameplay, the story disappointed me. Uncharted 3 nailed them both.

I think Arkham City may win more solely because it did what U2 did two years ago, which is bring out a bigger, badder version of its first game.

Uncharted 3 is a better game than U2, IMHO, but not enough that people care. I've heard so many people say they already Played U3 when it was called U2. Setting aside the trollish elements of that comment (didn't know you had a sinking boat and crashing plane in U2, I must have only seen the train as a viable travel option), the reason is because while there are improvements, there aren't enough to get people thinking it's something 'better'.

This 'better' trend has ruined a lot of gaming today. If a game doesn't outdo itself, it's not good enough. Who cares whether it outdoes the competition, it's now not good enough if it outdoes itself.

As I was saying, though, Arkham City outdid the first game. More freeflow combat improvements, a lot more emphasis on a lot more Batman icons, Catwoman, actually open world rather than segregated like the first game, and tons to do in it.

The problem I see is that Arkham 3, or whatever it shall be titled, will now be in the exact same situation as Uncharted 3. It's not going to be able to do enough to set it apart from it's previous title, and people will harp on that.

First of all I have to say this first and foremost. Uncharted 3 nor Batman will not win game of the year.

Even though both games are critically acclaimed, its like others have said before me. Uncharted doesn't really bring anything new to the table, gameplay wise. The story is always going to be great and we know that. The only problem is that Batman has taken gamers by surprise at the mere fact that they were able to create greatness twice.

Portal 2 is another game that has really polished the formulas that were created in the first game. Zelda and Skyrim have the potential to become goty's but I wont make a predetermined decision on those titles until I see more reviews on them. However, from what i've seen of the games so far, this year's goty nominations will the most hotly discussed for years to come.

I get the feeling you haven't actually played Uncharted 3, much less beaten it.

OT: I think it may boil down to Skyrim vs Batman vs Portal 2 vs Skyward Sword. Uncharted 3, while called a masterpiece by the majority of reviewers, has much more working against it than Uncharted 2 had. In the grand scheme, it won't matter (it'll outsell Uncharted 2 as well), but with some of those ridiculous reviews, stiffer competition, and not the groundbreaking element that made Uncharted 2 GOTY more than any other game in history, it has its work cut out for it.

Ive just finished Uncharted 3 and have played around an hour online. Ive also played Batman Arkham City. Personally i think Batman Arkham City is the better game for these reasons.

Batman Arkham City is longer

Uncharted 3's ending feels rushed

Uncharted 3's multiplayer is exactly the same as the Beta and shows little improvement

Uncharted 3's co-op could pass as DLC for Uncharted 2 and removes alot of key features that make the Uncharted 3 campaign so good.

The teammate ai in uncharted 3 is one of the worst ive seen which can cause certain sections to be stupidly hard to the point it took me at least 16 attempts. (Not that i dont like hard games but when the teammate ai could actually save you by shooting one person and dont it gets really annoying)

But overall i still love Uncharted 3's campaign and cannot wait for the next one, It just lacked that special something that i think Batman Arkham City has. Still there is always Skyrim

If you count all the sidequests, All the riddler trophies all the challenge rooms, The side campaigns ect its a long game. It took me aroudn 22 hours. Uncharted 3 took me 6.55 hours

So, it took you only 6.55 to playthrough once on Uncharted without completing all you could do and you completely ignore time you could spend on multiplayer and co-op, but you're happy that you spent 22 hours on Arkham City, a lot of that trying to solve a ton of riddles that have you trying and retrying non-game related feats (augmented training, touch sensor riddles, going back to previous areas solely for trophies, spending more time traveling to areas of action rather than always being in the area where action occurs, etc.)

Uncharted 3 and Batman:AC are kinda neck and neck as far as speculation for which deserves GOTY more. Yet the one that will most likely steal the show is Skyrim. I personally think U3 SHOULD get it but know it won't in many instances because it got it UNIVERSALLY last year and those are big shoes ti fill. Many will feel Batman should get it this year due to be robbed of it due to the sheer caliber of Uncharted 2 two years ago. Now Batman is bigger, stronger, and better than ever.

Yet like I said, they might both lose because we have played the "same game" for U3 and Batman in the last 2 years. Oblivion was like 5 years ago, meaning Skyrim will feel fresher (although the Fallout releases could backfire this idea).

Uncharted 3 (for me anyways) is a once, maybe twice in a decade game. Maybe its just because I have an emotional attachment to the characters and the story, but its easily the best game I've played this gen.

Quite a few, I played on ps3 so not sure if that makes any difference. For example I want to do some side missions an locations I know where a body or clue should be (as I youtubed) are not there, so you have to turn game off an on to get it to rememeber what it's doing. An towards the end of the game there was a lot of freezes an rendering of the game!
I'm not knocking it at all as I absoluteley love it, I just don't think it is worthy of GOTY, an I am yet to play UC3 so I can't comment there

I played it on PS3 as well and never had that problem.I really do love the stealth in this game! so fun .It's just so satisfying to hang upside down grab people and hang them up on a gargoyle and hear the rest of the bad guys "how'ed you get up there!!" lol ... I play only on PS3 and I literally just finished UC3. Dark Souls is still my Game of the Year and new Game of the Generation. Demon's Souls was my GotG but it's now in second place. I'm not sure how you can think two sequels are the hands down final candidates and then rule out another game for being a "continuation of an already existing" experience. Seems like a major disconnect. Dark Souls wins for me, with Skyrim (probably) being second and Portal 2 third, while UC3 gets fourth. B:AC doesn't interest me for some reason, even though I thought B:AA was pretty good.

Uncharted is amazing, no denying that. I think you have to give it to batman. it gives that awesome over TWO consoles, with a Wii:U version on the horizon.

However, as many have said, all these games are great, and will all come out with their own "Game of the Year" edition.

Batman AC is in some ways worse then Batman AA story felt rushed by putting too many villains in there was like no focus. Combat and stealth havent improved over AA which could have been improved allot. Its just Ac+semi open world if this was the first game i would have been impressed like with AA but now its just overrated IMO.

Uncharted 3 i can only say omg Amy Hennig has out done herself with the story. You feel so immersed in the cutscenes where they have managed to make the characters so real. That you feel for them which i had a bit with uncharted 2 but damn 3 took it too the next level.

If it was between Batman Arkham City and Uncharted 3 I'd have to give it to Uncharted 3. Uncharted had a better story and dialogue imo and it kept me wanting to see what was next like I was on the treasure hunt with them. The graphics are top and the best I've seen on a ps3. The set pieces and way they unfolded was amazing my wife who HATES video games was sitting and watching the story unfold which shocked me. In batman Robin was a man instead of a boy that bugged me a little. The boss battles were too easy and the story wasn't that great, Too many villians I thought just thrown in also. It was a little all over the place especially with catwoman in the mix. They could have developed some villians more.

I have both and in my opinion Uncharted 3 is a clear winner.
Batman had no bugs, lots of content, fun combat system BUT I did not find it as fun to play as Uncharted 3. Uncharted 3 keeps me excited and I keep playing it until I can't play anymore. Batman was more like a game I played when I was bored.
I have not finished Uncharted 3 yet as I am on Chapter 12 but I have the boat cruise AND the plane left so I don't think my opinion will change.

It's dumb to narrow it down like that. Unlike in 2009, there is actually competition for GOTY this year. There are many titles scoring over a 90 on Metacritic that have a great chance at taking the crown, and still quite a few unreleased ones.
