Join N4G as We Game for the Children's Miracle Network

Cat|4592d ago |Blog Post|29|

Hey, N4Gers!

N4G Moderators Odion, JL, cgoodno and I are leading the N4G team to charity victory - want in? As gamers in Extra Life's annual 24-hour video game marathon you can join the N4G team and get some play time in or you can donate and help us reach our fundraising goal!

All contributions will benefit local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Any contribution will help and all donations are tax deductible.

Our team fundraising goal is $5000 - which is huge for our first year, but c'mon...we can so do this!

If you would like to be part of the N4G team by playing just go here: http://www.extra-life.org/i... All gaming counts - PC, console, mobile, board...just game!

If you want to be part of the N4G team by donating choose any of our participant profiles on that page and donate!

Some other stuff: Want to play 24 hours but not for 24 hours straight? That's cool, just clock 24 hours in the time frame you choose! This is about the kids, after all - any Achievements/Trophies/etc. earned is just icing on the very real cake.

BONUS: If you join the team OR donate $24 or more to one of the N4G team's participants you'll be entered to win a swag bundle from our swag closet. This is a grab bag of posters, t-shirts, buttons, bags, and dog tags to name a few from GDC, E3, PAX...or stuff that showed up in the mail.
1. Swag bundle is open to all except for employees of HAVAmedia and immediate relatives. You do not have to be a registered N4G user to win.
2. Closing date is 15th October 2011
3. The winner will be chosen by random.org and notified via email or N4G ticket on or after October 16, 2011.
4. Failure to reply to notification within fourteen (14) days results in forfeiture of prize.

I'm slightly confused. Do I just play and N4G pays, or what?

Cat4592d ago

You've got options - you can join the team (or another team, or as an individual) and you just game! You get a link to your page like http://www.extra-life.org/i... and that's where people can donate towards your personal goal. Money they give to you on your page goes to the hospital of your choice! (and counts toward the team's goal)

Or, you can just donate to someone if you don't feel like gaming but want to give!

Well I registered, thanks for the info.

Don't feel like gaming?
Blasphemy!

Cat4592d ago

Nice! Welcome snowb420, skv007, and Criminal! (@skv - I know, I know, "don't feel like gaming", on the off chance someone wandered onto N4G by mistake? :D )

Basically, the N4G staff will spend 24 hours straight to play games in support of a great cause; we can support them by donating and/or joining in to keep them going. We donate.

On topic, things like this make me proud to be a gamer. I'm in.

"2. Closing date is 15th October 2011"

So I can sign up really close to the date? That's good, because I can really only do this if I have off of work that day and the day after (for sleep).

Hope I can participate. There's nothing more sad than someone dying before they get a chance to live a full life.

Cat4591d ago

Don't stress about getting your game time in on the 15th - nobody is going to be at your door checking. It's still in the spirit of the marathon and fundraising if you get your hours in at another time!!

SilentNegotiator4591d ago

True, but that's no fun. I'd rather do the 24 hours along side everyone else :)

JL4591d ago (Edited 4591d ago )

I, like Cat, won't be doing the 24hrs on the 15th. First off, I'm just too old to be sitting and gaming for 24hrs straight. And I work through the weekend. So, it would be impossible for me to game all the way through that Saturday.

It's much more likely that I'll split my time up between the few days prior to that.

Or, another option is: my "weekend" is actually Monday-Tuesday, those being the days I'm off work. So, I could maybe squeeze in a 24hr session there. Or at least a couple 12hr sessions.

P.S. Cat, if I split up my time and the Marathon-Donation Police show up at my door, you are so paying for my bail :P

For some reason I'm assuming this only pertains to playing on consoles.

WildArmed4592d ago

Nay, it's also for Steam / Rift / and others!

Cat4592d ago (Edited 4592d ago )

And mobile and board and D&D and...er, Farmville? It's time for Theo to give in and embrace his inner gaming-for-charity gnome.

WildArmed4592d ago

Also, if I don't get any sponsors, I'll make it my personal goal to donate 20$ from my pocket.

ISKREEM4592d ago

I like that idea, I'm going to do the same.

Count me in. Im always good for a charity.

This is a huge release being treated like a patch update but really it’s a monster in disguise…Bethesda being Bethesda, no actual release times or pre load available or file size info, sigh. All that said, clearing space on the SSD and putting the PS5 in rest mode while at work so I can play later, fully expecting snail download speeds as millions bang on their servers.

Review - A Difficult Game About Climbing (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "A Difficult Game About Climbing is obviously frustrating, and I don’t exactly think it’s a fun pasttime, but it’s exponentially more enjoyable than the horrendous Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. It’s actually beatable with enough trial and error. Its mechanics, whilst not exactly polished to the brim, work as intended, with no intentional input lag. It’s still clearly meant for Let’s Play youtubers to film themselves losing their minds over it, but it can still be a passable challenge if you’re up for the task."

Review - Stitch (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Oliver Shellding: "Overall, I think Stitch is an ultra quaint title that oozes warmth and welcome in gameplay and visual presentation, and is just such a decompression tool after a long day doing literally anything. It gives me such joy and relaxation to bring together the numbers and colors until I’ve made a bicycle or a nutcracker or whatever. I’ll do Christmas puzzles in April, it’s fine and the game doesn’t judge me. Unlock more and more pieces, don’t wait for power ups or villains because there are none, and just keep making yourself happy. If games are art, this one is a sweater my mom made for me, and I’m wearing it to keep out any and all chilly elements. But, just like mom, I’ll only pretend to listen."
