5 reasons why you should ignore console 3D gaming right now

Is it too early to go 3D at the moment, are there too many negatives, is it even needed. Here are some common reasons not to adopt 3D in your gaming.

Money, money, money is the big factor. It'll be interesting to see how immersive gaming can truly be with the addition of 3D, as for cinema 3D, some films have really benefited from the effect, hopefully it translates well in gaming.

I don't care what health reports say, I know extended viewing doesn't make me feel very good especially if I laid down the dough I had to, to enjoy it.

Make it standard and essentially free with my tv, and I will consider using it.

Do either of you have a 3D tv or are just slating something you haven't got? Because it seems to me that 3D adds something huge to gaming, a real sense of depth. Also developer support from devs like Naughty Dog, Epic, Isomniac give me confidence it is here to stay and will succeed.

Also this article seems to be damage control for the lack of 3D support on said websites console of preference.

Dont see how price is a barrier, you can be getting a 24inch 1080p monitor for 300usd which supports 3D. Add in a 600usd PC and you have a great setup for a system that does 3D in 1080p 30-60fps in most games.

PC also is the only system which supports a vast number of titles in 3D, both AMD and Nvidia have over 500games supported in 3D, in comparison PS3(which is the leading console promoting 3d) may barely have 35titles in 3D.

price is an increasingly weak argument , when for over a year now , there have been excellent 3dtvs around 500$ .

I had a 46" panasonic 3dtv at 800900 dollars a year ago , when it's 3dless 50" equivalent was at the same price .

Enough with that nonsense already ... if you can afford and need an hdtv , you can very easily get it 3d while at it for very affordable prices .

Its all about price and it effects both the movie and gaming industry). There are going to be titles that do not utilise 3D very well and others that do (uncharted has been reported to use it very well). For one or two stellar titles the tvs are too expensive and its too expensive for other companies to invest in 3D properly when the tvs are too much money and not that many people have them. Lower the price so its an extra 100 for 3D might just entice but this is asking the impossible right now.

I've been on the 3D band wagon for about a year using Nvidia - then recently got the PS3 going (luckily able to use the same glasses and IR emitter) - but I have to say that Killzone 3 / MK9 / other "3D" type games on PS3 haven't seemed to match up with the quality of 3D on the PC (obviously I'm not talking about overall graphics quality because PS3 will usually lose that battle) - but whether it is the ability to control the strength of the 3D or other options the PC gives I don't know - but the PS3 3D makes my eyes hurt profusely after a few hours - at least when gaming (3D blu-ray movies on PS3 are quite enjoyable though). I am looking forward to the God of War Origins Collection and ICO in 3D.

I just bought a new 3D tv and its incredible. Watching TV and playing games brings the experience to a whole new level and you feel totally immersed. The cost is definitely the most restrictive issue with 3D but arguments to the effect of "the technology just isn't ready" are wrong.

I'm ignoring 3D all together. I think it is a gimmick and one that literally gives me a headache and I never get headaches.

I hate how Sony is shoving 3D in everyone's face just like Microsoft is shoving Kinect. 3D logos and product placement on everything. I get it, you want me to spend more money to upgrade my 60" Bravia TV I spent thousands of dollars on last year. No thank you.

LOL. Just when I'm getting pumped at the prospect of finally get into 3D this article comes out, and uses the image of two SONY products to tell people not to buy them. Very sneaky MSxbox-world.

I actually find the PS3D display to be a very enticing product. It is relatively small sized so low res images dont get too stretched over so image artefacts that come from upscaling are kept relatively low. No to mention dual full screen support which is a huge plus by itself and only made possible trough 3D tech. Also the PS display is 240 Hz so it will be a much needed upgrade from my trusty 60Hz samsung. Smooth gameplay for the win.

KZ3, SSHD, UC3, ICO Collection + R3 and MS:A (bundled) are not a ton of content but will provide a very nice starting pack that will only grow up in time, and considering $500 for a nice 3D display that can be used with my PC (3D capable also) is not that much to ask. I'm sold on this display. Only need to allocate those $500.

1-2-4-5 If you can afford any hdtv , you can easily get's a 3d one . The only difference is you get a bigger screen for the same price .

3 - If you even care that much you aint playing on consoles anyway , but on pcs .. wich benefits from said 3d as well .

1. Anyone that has seen resident evil 4 on a 60 inch 3d tv, knows that 3d is the future

Over 500 games 3D compatible with over 200 fully functional without teething problems.
Most games can be played in 3D at 1920 by 1080p across 3 monitors that's 5760 by 1080p in 3D!!!

After playing Batman: Arkham Asylum maxed out with 4xAA/16xAF plus PhysX and 3D Vision at 1080p I knew it was a game changer.
The same can be said for Dead Rising 2, Just Cause 2 and Mafia II, these game look insanely better on PC by default but when adding technologies such as PhysX, Cuda and 3D Vision plus running at 1080p with 4xAA and 16xAF whilst still keeping a steady framerate you know why...

PC it only does everything!

I've played GT5, KZ3 and Motorstorm PR demo in 3D and it blew me away. If it didn't hurt my eyes like how they hurt when I play games in the dark then I would have bought a 3DTV long ago

Price: You can get a 42" Vizio 3D LCD for $650. EXTREMELY affordable for a TV that size with 3D technology. The 32" is only $500. C'mon now.

Time Investment: Please, if you don't want to play your games in 3D, then don't get one. Those of us that wish to play/watch in 3D will as much as we want. Regardless of the game/content.

Glasses: LMFAO. The new Real D Theater Glasses weigh as much as a pair of sunglasses, if not lighter. Many people already wear glasses as it is. And you can take home the ones from the movies and use them on your TV, no batteries needed.

Hardware isn't ready? It may not be perfect yet, but OMFG 3D is happening NOW. Even on a 3D DS. BOTH the 360 and PS3 can do amazing 3D, 360 just needs an update. Oh, and do some research, Theater 3d combines two 540p images to form a 1080p image, whereas Shutter technology flashes two alternating 1080p images. You can't even tell the difference unless you want to count fucking pixels.

Poor content? Try FEW content and I'll give you a point. This is the major reason 3D is advancing so slowly. Crysis 2 in 3D was awesome, as was WipEout HD. But I still want to play all my games in native 3D, which is a long way off from now. The 360 DOES have MUCH less 3D content than the PS3 though, but both have very little. A small amount of 3D gaming content is my biggest issue with this development. In time, hopefully. But let's not forget the growing amount of 3D support on PC.

Once there is more desirable content for 3D, it WILL get more support. My advice, if you DON'T want 3D, then DON'T get it. If you DO, there's nothing wrong with that, either.

I have to agree with this article.The Hardware isn't ready to push 3D the way it was meant to be.That said, Most major manufacture like Sony/Samsung/Vizio etc know exactly what it would take to make it work well, but the drawback is it would end up becoming too costly to implement expensive hardware to make it affordable. Instead, most manufacture would find a ingenious way to bring their half-ass products to market until the technology becomes affordable.

As for the 3D content on the market today. There just isn't enough good 3d content like avatar which is a shame. And,of course, nothing beats avatar which leads me to believe that we won't see anything like that again in a couple of years from now. Perhaps when avatar 2 comes out in theaters it would set a production marker that every other entertainment industry would have to follow/take seriously.

So with in my conclusion, I would say by 2013 we all will experience the 3D the way it was meant to be, but not today.
